I bet they had to do this so many times that even after 41 years, the surviving cast could probably still do this. Such a shame we lost Harold Ramis and John Candy so early
Lots of folks will never know just how much training this scene took. The M-1 is 9 pounds of heavy weight and to do this in precision takes a lot of work. Brings back memories of my drill team time. Love the M-1 ...my favorite weapon!
THAT says a lot about this Platoon! They finished their training on their own. It takes a crack unit, with 100% dedication to the task at hand, to be able to do that!
My wife and I saw this in a theater in Italy after I joined the air force without asking her input. True story. Even she laughed her ass off at the movie. She divorced me years later after she found someone better-looking and dumber than me. Oh well.
R.I.P. John Candy and Harold Ramis. May my Mighty Lord Jesus Christ bless you both with His perfect peace. May my Mighty Lord Jesus Christ bless, comfort, and strengthen the families of these two outstanding actors forever. This scene 🎬 is hilarious and a classic. 😎🔥🥇 🥊🥊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💖✝️
@@jbm421 And don't forget about Warren Oates (aka "Sgt. Hulka"). Sad to say, he was only 53 when he died of a heart attack on April 3,1982, a little less than ten months after "Stripes" was released to theaters nationwide. ;-(
May 1967, Great Lakes Naval Training Center, still cold as hell at 5 AM and me standing in line with the other 90 guys in my boot camp company waiting for breakfast. Five other companies were on the parade grounds. Most of the guys were sent to Vietnam. I was sent to Beeville Texas. The NAVY treated me better than my family ever did.
One of my roommates during AIT is in the background in one of the graduating companies. You can see him clearly three or four times. I remember him showing us, and he became an instant hero to the rest of us. He got plenty of free beer at the EM Club that evening…
OMG... STRIPES circa 1980ish! This is a cult classic! All the big names before they were big... except for John Candy 😄😄😄 (RIP) "What the fukc is a frush?" Epic comedy... one of my favs by Bill Murray.😎😎😎😎
I was told in no uncertain terms to stop practicing this with my JROTC platoon because there "Ain't no way,no how you're going to walk away from doing that routine, mister."
I'm an Army veteran who graduated basic at Fort Leonard Wood, MO back in 1990...I was always pissed that our graduation was held indoors instead of the marching on the parade ground like we were supposed to do.
Alexa told me it was Bill Murray's birthday this morning and this scene immediately came to my mind,so I had to come watch it. Always loved this movie and this is the best scene in it. Happy birthday Bill.
@@alexbarry689 well the Marines used to be sent to Ft Knox for Armour school, but no longer. The current Commandant of the USMC, has do away with Tank Battalions. As an old Marine Sergeant I think its a big mistake. Semper Fi
Yeah I could fill three pages everything wrong in the Basic Training segment. But still funny as hell. The one thing right was the constant training with the DI in your face to distract you. Also the 2200 lights out because of 0500 wake up. But we were getting up at 0300 just to get the barracks ready for daily inspection, which of course we failed about every 3 days. I still wished they'd done a CS chamber scene, that would have been hilarious.
I'm not sure where the guys came from for the parade scene but a couple platoons were out of step. The first few guys would be in time with the drums but the last half would be on their right instead of the left.
19secs also 43 secs - I think the first ever steadicam use in movies. Moving camera on bracket moving along with no up and down movement. I wonder how many takes of the military drill they had to take. Seems all in synch to me.
I was at Fort Benning in 1966. Same style of building then. To me THIS WAS FUNNY. If you have not been in the Army you DON'T understand this movie. I have been at a lot of Army Forts back when. Then they all looked the same. Still a great FUNNY movie today in 2021.
I remember her also from the original Halloween. She was the girl who was killed when Michael Myers stood in the doorway wearing the sheet and glasses after he killed her boyfriend.
@@geoffwilliams4478 I saw an interview with her, and she said she wore the same costume (army greens) for Stripes that she wore in Private Benjamin. They just changed some patches.
I did basic and AIT some 15 years later. I think this location was Southeast of my barricks. I was in the barber shop and the building where clothes are issued.
