His car was found near my house. It's so sad. I've wondered if he wasn't experiencing early symptoms of schizophrenia or some similar form of psychosis. It's such a sad case.

I was thnking that when they were talking about the marijuana use. I agree that the symtoms and behavior are very similar, and the age is right. using marijuana might not be a cause, but it´s often seen (in excess) in young people who develop schizophrenia. Self medication?

My cousin's first break happened 4 years after he was discharged from the service. There were plenty of signs before it happened but people were reluctant to say anything because what if they were wrong? I found him (after searching for days) extremely sunburnt and dehydrated after setting up his new "home" under a pile of driftwood on a beach in Florida. He claimed he was hiding from demons. He received the intensive care he needed and, 25 years later, he's doing well.

As a long-time follower, it's wild to see you cover a good friend's cousin. By all accounts, a good kid. Apparently, some of his loved ones strongly suspect homicide. For me, the self-isolation and odd behavior seem hard to ignore. Either way: It's sad that Logan didn't get a fighting chance against whatever he was dealing with. Thanks for treating his case with kindness.

So sad, and unfortunate. Many people have a really bad experience w/pot; it doesn't keep them for continuing to use. If something he didn't grow, hadn't purchased before and was altered, it would explain the erratic driving. But I'm of the opinion that any weakness, vulnerability evident to public can result in the random act of violence by perps who see an opportunity, if not the confidence from getting away w/it before. Yet again, and drugs are the culprit; whoever sells the pot, usually has others to get you in deeper. What a horrible waste. 🙏For his family,RIP Logan.

@@deejames1st I don't know what it's like where he was, California is terrible! You say the wrong thing / things and these mental health workers under penalty of losing their employment and perhaps being liable, can't pretend they didn't hear what you said and so have to cover their asses. It's easier to check yourself into a psych ward, than it is to get yourself out of it. And then your subject to sanctions, perhaps for life on the state level. There's federal penalties too that you have to live with If you've ever been declared a danger to yourself, even if you weren't declareda danger to others. Case is tend to get overwritten, to protect the worker from any consequences who comes in contact with the person in crisis.
@deejames1st
@deejames1st Год назад
@@frankpaya690 I agree on a lot of your points. These people need more empathetic mental health care. There’s an issue with the families of some making it harder for the patient due to lack of empathy, denial of responsibility, blame, excuses, etc. Sometimes it’s these people’s own families who end up making it impossible for them to recover. Workers tend to do more when there’s a good family looking out for the patient and helping the patient in their recovery instead of hindering the recovery. When a patient doesn’t have that support system many workers may decide the case is pointless. But it doesn’t seem like that was the case here, as his family seemed to care about him, and haven’t smeared him for having his issues. I think that maybe it was like Dr. Grande said, the illness progressed quickly in his case, and before anyone realized the depth of it, he was gone. I also agree with you that these people are very vulnerable to those who would do harm to them and they aren’t in a fit state to defend themselves against it.

Dr Grande , I appreciate your insight. My son’s girlfriend was diagnosed with schizophrenia about 4 months ago. She was having auditory and visual hallucinations. What I found most interesting in this video is you described exactly the symptoms she was having before the hallucinations began. She was exhausted, withdrawn, depressed and emotional for several months. After she told me she was hallucinating I convinced her to go to the hospital. She spent a week in patient psychiatric care. They were able to find medication that worked for her. She’s now back and work and doing well. She still is being monitored and goes to her Dr frequently. The knowledge you spread is so valuable. Thank you.

Cannabis use is commonly recognised in the UK as a trigger for the onset of schizophrenia for some people vulnerable to the disease. It constantly amazes me that most Americans seem to be in denial that the widespread usage of this drug causes catastrophic harm to some people's health and leads to other drugs. The United States is a great country that, to me, is blighted by drug use and the crime, health and homelessness issues that drug use causes. It looks from the outside that people have just given up and accepted it as normal.

Videos like this about the onset of symptoms in young adults are very helpful for me in communicating with my son, who is in this age group. He manages a diagnosis of bipolar type two very well with good social support and adherence to his medications. Because of his experience he does have a tendency to feel attracted and sympathetic to other young people who are experiencing mental health symptoms. He recently observed some erratic, disorganized behavior in a friend. Rather than feeling confused or upset he was able to observe and address the situation proactively. Without some awareness in young people about what might be going on with their peers it is a very disturbing and alarming thing to encounter in their early adult relationships.

While I do find it to be unlikely that Logan is alive today, one thing Dr. Grande may not know about the area is that, even near the freeway post in those woods, there are several large communities of unhoused people out there. We have large camps, tiny house communities, and more; many of them line the freeway just beyond the tree lines. This is one of those rare cases where the missing person could well be alive and right there near where he went missing.

Good point, you never know if someone decides to just start a new life. I do have to say though, the term you used in your comment, Unhoused, stood out to me. Curious to know the reason behind saying unhoused compared to the homeless. A person without a house is typically called homeless and I'm wondering if that is now the new "woke" term for homeless lol? Please tell me it's not...I've had enough of these "politically" correct terms when trying to not "offend" someone. I can guarantee a homeless person probably gives a s&!t less if they are called homeless. I'm sure if u did a survey on the unhoused settlements they wouldn't care that they are called homeless. The word games have gone too far on the far left, for sure.
@nadinewhite993
@nadinewhite993 Год назад
@@roxannespahr2804There is a distinction. Think of the word home and what it means to you compared to the word house. A home is something that is deeper. Home sweet home, not house sweet house. So the distinction can be made that someone who is homeless has nowhere to go that feels like a home or that is a home to them. They can also be without an address or structure to live in which also makes them houseless. There are people who are houseless who do have a home they can return to, maybe a parental home, a grandparent's home, a home with their spouse... Language keeps evolving. If it didn't I would be speaking English in Shakespearean. Or I'd be speaking an older language of my ancestors before they arrived in England. @@debbiethompson14 Well, of course, you shouldn't really care what any other people think of you (as long as you consider how safe you are among them and leave them if not), as long as you generally treat others equally and with that respect one human deserves from another (which anyone should certainly understand from their own experience and feelings). And as to any other things - living or not - with due care and humanely.
@mindyourownbusinessshhh1458
I had a similar thought. The year he disappeared was the year rump was running for president. A lot of hidden racism started to ooze out of clear people that year. This kid's whole family (and maybe his "friends") were all clear people, and maybe racism hadn't been something he had to think about before, but I know finding out some people in my life were racists really gave me trust issues. And when I tried to explain to clear people how it would be detrimental to POC to have a racist in the white house, I lost some friends who defended rump's racism. So maybe Logan felt isolated because he realized that he was surrounded by people like that. People who supposedly loved him. Just a theory

I feel like some kind of psychosis is definitely a likely cause. Someone who has a precursor to schizophrenia or psychosis and starts to use marijuana or other substances that may induce feelings of paranoia or hallucinations can push them further into a break. I had a couple of clients who had similar situations. In graduate school or post graduate school with a dramatic decline in academic functioning and high use of these types of drugs who capulted into psychosis. It's heartbreaking. I used to always have nightmares from high school until I was about 40 years old, knowing that the onset for psychosis goes down dramatically after that. We have to come up with better ways to help people in these situations before they end up at the devastating results like this. I hope this young man is found, one way or another.

Thank you for the video Dr. Grande. You once again provided us with so much important information. ❤ Somebody who was very close to me had all of these symptoms and eventually developed schizofrenia. I never took the symptoms seriously, and always attributed the odd behaviour to stress. I had no idea. Everything is under control now but I still blame myself for not noticing the warning signs.

I graduated college on May 19th. It would be easy for people to remain isolated in and start to give into strange thoughts today. I wonder what the most likely scenario would be for someone in his situation to do.

The part where he Said he was driving around till 6am and had an epiphany makes me think of the onset of schizophrenia. That's around the age it happens, they have epiphanies, and it can be induced or triggered by cannabinoids. That's my theory. Could be completely wrong though.

What? What about "cannabis"''s enormous medical benefits? Cures glaucoma, anxiety, pain, mental illness, epilepsy, etc. etc. I guess Logan was just one of the "unlucky" ones. The amount of sheer horseshit behind pot legalization is stupefying and a true sign of the total decay of American society.

Dr. Grande - Interesting & disturbing that there's yet another disappearance of a young man. Similar to Jason Landry in Luling, TX; Bryce Laspisa off Hwy 5 in CA; Rico Omarr Harris in Yolo County CA; and many others who've left behind their vehicles, keys, cellphones, wallets with IDs & bank cards, laptops, backpacks, clothing, etc. It's like they literally evaporate. 👍💜🌵

There are tens of thousands of police forces and their precinct stations across the USA and many are very small and their budgets resented by tax payers and town councillors and so offices are closed and shifts uncovered when money and staff are tight. Indeed for that matter many small hospitals close their emergency departments on weekends.

The saddest part is that so many people were able to dismiss early signs as just some kind of stress or phase of "going thru" something. How it might have been different if somebody had asked him earlier about his problems. A friend's son was seeing a psychiatrist and MD to deal with what appeared to be anxiety. Ultimately it was brain cancer-diffuse astrocytoma.

Good morning, Dr. Grande! Marijuana and probably other drugs again, huh? And as for Logan thinking that people were looking at him through his window, he could have simply closed the drapes. I think that your suggested diagnosis of schizophrenia is probably correct, and the drugs didn't help. I suspect that he finally went off the deep end and ultimately ran off into the woods and eventually died of exposure without any help from anyone else. Thanks for sharing.

What I don't understand is why there would've been any doubt whether Logan's car was the one that crashed into the concrete barrier? If it was the same car, wouldn't there have been extensive damage to it that would've been apparent at the time it was impounded?

I'm not sure about the witness who called the cops a year afterwards reporting they saw an abandoned car. I see a car on the side of the road very often - at least weekly? We drive past, hardly noticed. You couldn't possibly recall seeing a particular car on the side of the road a year ago, and know the date too.
