Jeez, I'm a beginner, and "All In" is kicking my ass. Thanks for the vid. I really need to learn the short cut keys. I have it on the normal play and it seems that my builds are taking forever. I'm playing catch up and getting destroyed each time she sends a wave of enemies.
Kerrigan not coming was definitely a bug, in my case she showed up with massive swarm and worms appearing at the same time. Killed off all bunkers, and started destroying the artefact, it had like 1% hp and then the mission finished. LOL. Lucky af. Feeling a bit like I cheated.
That's how I beat the final LotV mission. I just reloaded the last save (90% charge) until my units could hold off long enough. I won with about 100hp left on the artifact.
Thanks a lot for these guides. ive been using them since the 'In Utter Darkness' mission . Been a big help getting me through the end of the brutal campaign. Well explained and good humour in them as well, lol :)
Thanks for the videos Zai, they have been very well done. I never really considered trying the campaign on brutal but these videos inspired me. I just finished 'All In' on brutal and got the "only use the artifact once" achievement. Ghost banshee tank ftw...
@Sabellbu another thing to do is pump out mass marines and stim them, using the artifact before attacking kerrigan to get rid of her hydras. she usually attacks each marine individually, allowing you to prevent your bunkers/tanks from being destroyed at the expense of cheap marines.
cheers, just finished the last misson on brutal, even got the achievement of not using the artifact more then once. great walkthrough man enjoyed every video of it. just heaps of siege tanks, ghosts, flame turrets, bunkers and a few banshee's to clear out the nydus worms and this mission is pretty easy to do.
Tips for who took out the nydus worms instead of the fliers: you generally do much of the same thing. Because nydus worms can't appear in your base, you can completely wall off the sides with tons of bunkers. Be sure to fill them all with marines for AA. Also utilize vikings, especially the mercenary version as frequently as possible. I generally have ~5 Angels in the back of my base and ~15 regulars at the artefact on standby. Science vessels help a lot healing them. Don't need banshees.
Damn that was intense. First try they blew it up at 99.9% and when i finally beat it i was fully defended and didnt even notice how good i was doin until the scene cut. Great walkthrough Zai, thank you. Now bring on Heart of the Swarm!
Not sure if it works against brutal difficulty, but I made two walls of bunkers, 6-marine upgrade), marauders, medics and scvs behind the first wall and siege tanks and turrets behind the second. I didn't even focus on Karragan under this set up because she died so fast. I was more concerned with patching holes in the walls, replacing units and using my ships to cover any weak or over-run spots.
although expensive, the thors special strike cannon is actually really effective against kerrigan, it causes her to freeze while it's shooting at her, which prevent her from causeing furture destruction, combined with the bunker and siege tank fire power, 3-4 50mm strike cannon and kerrigan is done with little damage
@ItalianoConfuso The thingimagizmos that slow the zerg down are key. You need those + bunkers + siegetanks + attack upgrades for waves. Cloaked banshees for nyduses. Roughly 10-15 ghosts for Kerrigan. Just hold shift and spam snipe on Kerrigan.
As for what happened to Kerrigan on the final attack, I had it happen to me once as well. I'm not 100% sure this is the reason for yours, but in mine it seemed like those randomly rooting spore crawlers and spine crawlers actually accidentally walled off a choke halfway up the map, and Kerrigan just got confused and never commanded her troops to move out of the way.
PFs are great in this missions. You train like 20 extra SCVs, powerbuild CCs at every choke and have like 7 SCVs per PF, Tanks on highground and mass banshee and BC.Put 3 BC on patrol around base after the first overlord wave. Once you get around 80% put 5 shees on patrol as well. These take care of any nydus (i've had nydus in weird places) and any reinforcements that survive. Thors with barrage behind PFs just own as well. BCs + Shees take care of Kerrigan and Nydus. Spectres help too. Lash.
I found placing the tanks around the merc compound and not putting anything on the low ground near the ramps was a bit better - the zerg will clump up on the ramps, giving your tanks an easier time, and your tanks will be *far* away from Kerrigan when she arrives. If you save the nova for her and then send out your marines or ghosts or whatever you can avoid losing any tanks. I had chosen planetary fortress instead of perdition turrets, but you can still a fair few around the artefact.
Wow the air one is so much tougher, you didn't get a super strong ground unit charge ur base? like a class 12 flyer behemoth in the Air version of this mission.
@slemmr It depends on weather you chose to do Shatter the Sky or Belly of the Beast mission, if you chose the Belly* - there will be lots of air units coming at you, which i think is very difficult to deal with, if you did Shatter the Sky - loads of Nydus, which is very easy in comparison. Also wanted to add, looking forward to Zai`s Sc2 HotS brutal walkthrough(when it comes out)! =)
first thanks for the Walkthrough... very help full, but I was wondering if you could had a couple missions in, like you did place all the missions but like on char if you have had the spectres insted? and second question, will you do the heart of the swarm walkthrough? thanks again for the help!
i feel like an idiot for just thinking of this now, bit does Kerrigan have some kind of dog reduction ability? i never really noticed during this mission when I was playing it, but now it seems really noticeable XD
@Mrazarian If you watched the leaked cutscene vid, you'd see that his dad is still alive and trying to kill Kerrigan. Raynor works with Kerrigan to bring him down, again. That's probably just the beginning of the game, though.
@Danmax182 personally I thought fighting air was better. If you fought air I suggest pulling back from the two choke pointson each side to a point where two choke points become one. You can expand your defense from there, and since you have no air attackers, you can use a nice setup of bunkers, siege tanks, and Planetary Fortresses.
One good strategy for kerrigan is to get a hercules full of marines, when Kerrigan is halfway to the base, nova, then drop your marines in front of your line of bunkers, stim, and mow her down. If you move out of storms quick enough, make sure to not nova too soon/late, and don't get your hercules one shotted by Kerrigan, she becomes trivial.
@msakallioglu maybe you didnt do them all on brutal. Sometimes when i went back to do an achievement on a lower difficulty, i forget to change it back to brutal.
An achievement walkthrough would be cool for those that you didn't go for in this (utterly awesome) brutal walkthrough. Of course, I'm just grasping at straws here. I love your commentaries and hate to say goodbye.
@topeight8 Lol, detection doesn't matter. Their only AA is hydras, spores, and kerrigan. 10 or so Banshees > one or two spore crawlers + 5 hydras at a time, especially if you heal up after each nydus wave.
Ugh everyone is like ''oh just mass tanks''...but i can never get enough tanks out in time, when i get about 6-8 on both sides already, along comes Kerrigan, roflstomps my marines (who i also try to pump out as fast as possible, from 2 barracks with 2 tech reactors) and the tanks and gg. Not to mention the constant attention i have to put to my banshees, since the moment i leave them to take care of a nydus worm, they get killed due to a random overseer.
Build about 4 Barracks and just focus on producing Marines and Medics, maintaining 200/200 supply, and fully upgrading your ground unit arsenal through Engineering Bay. You don't need any defensive structures whatsoever as long as you are quick and can micro your units well against Kerrigan ability (its nasty as it can easily wipe over 100 supply without micro). I managed to get all the achievements on this mission on brutal by doing this method, though is not easy. Would've been much easier for me however if I didn't go for the "Aces High" achievement on brutal.
I have the same problem where I don't have enough time to put tanks on the plateaus above each choke point and I also have bunkers set up at each choke point as well with six marines in each of them. Still can't manage to get enough tanks set up to survive the ridiculous waves that come where there is only like ten seconds between each fucking one. Like oh my fucking god they could've made it to where you would have 1 minute of defense replenish time between each attack that way you wouldn't have to waste so many minerals on mercs too much.
I also don't have the perdition turrets, ghosts, and psi disrupter upgrades so that makes the game too hard because I have no cloaked unit to fuck them up with or device to slow them down with, or burn them well.
Plenty of videos out there for a brutal play through. Just get 100 supply of siege tanks clump them in your base. When kerrigan comes just use the artifact and run out 20 stimmed marines on a suicide mission. Marines are expendable and even if you lose 10 tanks each time she comes you will still have 40 left. Also you can wall off with PF for an additional layer of protection. If you don't have them use bunkers or engineering bays. I've seen a brutal playthrough where it was just tanks no wall off, no PF, no psi distrupter.
THANK YOU psystarcraft for ur brutal walkthru guides they were VERY helpful and usefull. just beated this mission today FINALLY and DAM IT IS FUKIN HARD AS SHIT i AM GLAD i saw this shit kudos to u buddy i salute u
there was a couple of missions on brutal that was much harder than this. Mass sieges in the middle, marines for kerrigan, and cloaked banshees for nydus and i'm set. after kerrigan flees at around 90 something % i sent the rest of my 15 or so banshees and to protect the artifact while building a crap load of flame turrets to hold off till the final wave.
Thanks for the campaign walkthrough, it's been fun watching them. I hope you'll continue putting out video's! Something I'd like to see, is some more 4v4 action! It's really nice to see one of the best 4v4 players in the world play and you might be able to give away some of your 4v4 strats :)
Thank you Zai, I've been watching eagerly ever since you first uploaded the liberation day vid. Your casts area a lot of fun. You asked for ideas, and I have 2. One of course is to do the all in vs air. The 2nd is to do another full campaign walkthrough while drunk.
@Mrazarian I'd say he'll fall into a grey area. Not brutal and oppressive like Mengsk (who technically is still in power), but just too manipulative to be considered a good guy. The type who only cares about others when they are useful/threatening, and otherwise leaves them relatively alone. Also, Zai, maybe you could do challenge walkthroughs? I for one can't even beat Opening Gambit. Or you could try some custom maps. I've been playing them recently and they're a blast.
@msakallioglu there 29! 3 of the missions are the ones you pick sides you can go to the archives and do them on burtal. The haven,Char decision and tosh/nova missions and make sure you do the secret mission
the most important thing for this mission is: 1) you gotta have tanks 2) you GOTTA have banshees, use them to take ALL the nydus in as soon as they pop
Ghosts are nice but I found out that the Thor's strike cannons actually stun Kerrigan for the duration so you can just get 3-4 Thors and let the first Thor use his cannons and as soon as he's done do the next and so on. Meanwhile the tanks and bunkers are plowing her down and she can't even move. I only lost a couple of units to her this way.
@BarlytheDwarf No the time it takes to launch the lash is enough time for Kerrigan to kill the spectres, how i did it is I used mercs as a distractors because they last longer and had my spectre on the high ground and used lash, other then that spectre really aren't effective
Yeah I went back and did every one of the missions including the secret mission found on media blitz but still not happening. How did u do the missions you didn't by the time you finished the campaign ?
select 1 SCV, press B (build) S (supply) press and hold SHIFT, left click on the mpa where you want supplies, while holding shift, then you can either rick click on floor after you queued 3 supplies lets say, or return the worker to minerals.
Seems like you got lucky with your nydus worms and banshees. Every nydus i get when I try has either 2 spore crawlers next to it or an overseer, i keep losing them!
Thanks Zai. Great stuff. Everyone thumbs up if you want to see Zai do "All In" air!!! I also wouldn't mind seeing you do the challenge missions and maybe some hard/brutal melee achievements. THANKS!!!
to deal with kerrigan i find the Thor's ability very useful when not upgraded, she get stunned and hit for 500 dmg and that 8 secs stun really helps dealing with her.
When you queue up the banshees you should add a command to return to the base and decloak after taking out the last nydus. That way they dont use up energy unnecessarily and also drift into range of detectors.
I won the last mission but building supply depots around the artifact so when the zerg broke thorough my defense then all the zergling got in first and started to take down the supply depots around the artifact...
How come your bunkers don't have the autocannons mounted on them? Those are damn useful for this mission. Planetary Fortresses are pretty nice too (if you got them). Perdition Turrets are nice in front of Bunkers.
I take it you did take the special ability for Spectre, deal 200 damage to a unit? This works very well against Kerrigan, about as good as the snipe. The flame turrets are not really necesarry as shown in the video.
hey man how do you get the kerrigans portrait ? i went back to the missions i didn't play like haven, nova etc.. but it doesn't count towards it.. what do i do wrong ??????????????????
So much easier if you clear out the nydus, go mind control, and take all the broodlords that come at you. They deal massive damage + Kerrigan use her auto attack on the broodlings + her abilities + she gets surrounded lategame. Spam vikings, ghosts and siegetanks and ur set.
Ok so this might be a stupid question, but Im a noob. I can't figure out how to queue several build commands at the same time. For instance at about 4:58 you are supply blocked and you queue like four supply depots at the same time. Where can I learn to do that?
@DayManNightMan1 yeah exactly, i kept a consistent 10 vikings in my army, i think the path you choose only affects around 20 food if you play it right. i dropped my vikings on kerrigan, yeah they dont do jack, but they tank her OHKO's pretty well, since they're dirt cheap and fast to build. still, you're the first guy i know that prefer the nydus lol
This mission becomes super-easy on normal difficulty. I was actually able to get 100 mutalisks [did Belly of the Beast and got Hive Mind Emulator] and a dozen Battlecruisers and clear the map of the Zerg. The end sequence was funny since the full charged blast didn't actually kill anything. Zerg units I control are apparently also immune to energy nova. Plot hole?
He-he. When I did the "All-In" in Brutal, I accidently forgot to use the energy nova at all (Hot the achi at least, lol) :) But didn't need it, cos I never killed any Nyduses, just put PF-s to every choke point, and hydras were blocking the way. :D even Kerrigan couldn't attack me after a while :D But no question, this is the way to do it. Nicely done.
@ragminer LOL There is a certain amount of time until the artifact charges ALL the way. You can't possibly "beat it in 20 minutes" because you have to wait for it to charge everyone beats it at the same time. no more, no less.
Oh yeah, and three barracks with tech-reactors are required to spam enough infantry to pull this off. That's kind of important. If you can't pump out infantry fast enough, the bunkers are useless.
Still where were all the Nydus that were supposed to spawn and spew countless zerg in this video. there must have been a big glitch cause i got overwhelmed. only thing that saved me was one last nova and my countless seige tanks that Kerrigan was busy destroying
I prefer to take the extra health for bunkers, and use the artifact when Kerrigan comes. Just use a good number of banshees to clear the nydus worms, and you're good for something higher than normal.
something i noticed is that marines are great against kerrigan, she cant do splash damage, so she takes them one at a time, and cant do anything about supporting units, such as tanks
