India's first participatory "Urban Community Groundwater Recharge Project" at Baner, Pashan area of Pune led by Mission Groundwater in collaboration with citizen groups and NGOs.
This video developed by Centre for Environment Education (CEE) documents their journey with an objective of promoting the cause of groundwater conservation and recharge.
Mission Groundwater is a public movement to plan, propose and implement participatory Community Groundwater Recharge projects.The first project of this kind was undertaken in the Baner, Pashan, Balewadi area of Pune where nearly 100 residential societies have implemented groundwater recharge structures using rainwater to recharge the groundwater.These simple recharge filtration pits with borewell shafts will help recharge and augment the groundwater reserves of the growing urban areas of Pune. Similar projects across Pune, Maharashtra and India are required on basis of scientific hydro geological surveys & studies to conserve, recharge and augment groundwater resources.
