Killing Rebecca Ferguson in any movie is treason against my soul. That said, that car scene in Venise may be my favourite car scene... ever. And the train ''fall''... Damn, I thought I was playing Uncharted 2. Also, Pom Klementieff is *chef's kiss*
My husband and I saw it last night at an Advanved screening. It was good but we both could not stand her keep running from Ethan. He was like he needs to leave her ass there. 😂...But I did read that the train was built specifically for this movie and all the action was all real practical effect very little. CGI, this is why Tom Cruise movies are always effective, old school stuff.
THANK YOU! Hayley Atwell as Grace seemed like the only player that didn’t know what movie she was in. They gave her a Bond Girl edit, so there was some dissonance. And then she left Ethan to DIE in the tunnel, I kept thinking “are we’re supposed to LIKE this character?” I saw the movie tonight and expected all-bang-and-no-buck, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Two of my favorite reviewers. I am happy you guys can give a great breakdown of more artsy movies but also still have fun with movies like this. Thought the rich mans FF was spot on.
Forgot to mention ... you guys thought Cruise was wearing a lot of makeup, my impression was that his face was being smoothed digitally? Like not full on de-aging 20 years flashback level but def smoothing him out / touching him up to the point that it was noticeable...
I watched a video on how cashews are processed. It showed people peeling the cashews by hand. One phase can't be done by a machine. It's hard, grimy work for VERY LITTLE MONEY. I appreciate cashews so much more now.
I so enjoyed this review, and I love that Joseph noticed all the hair colour changes in the movie! I often notice wigs and faded and darkened hair colour in other movies/shows, and I am glad I am not the only one 😂😊
I actually saw an excellent action film yesterday called, “SISU.” It’s sooooooo Gooood!!!! About a gold miner out to destroy some Nazis. It’s pure cinema. Please do a review for it!!!
I have seen all of the Mission Impossible movies! I think they're so fun. They're a fun way to escape for a bit! Joseph's commentary on Tom's face and hair changes made my day as always!!!! I can't wait for your worst hair list!
Saw this tonight. Lots of running for sure and too much explaining. Totally agree with the best action scenes joseph! Had me cracking up with the cashew comment but I get you lol. Thanks again guys for always keeping me laughing and entertained with these movie reviews!
hahaaaa. I once told someone that a macadamian nut rich man's nut . And that person I said that to is…someone in hollywood that reminds me of a slightly younger Tom Cruise
The amount of talking/exposition and dutch angles in this movie was criminal. If you're going to have people talking, they need to be doing an action in an ACTION movie. Create some tension. The train sequence saved this film for me. The sound mixing was phenomenal. It was hyperrealistic. I would have seen this movie in 4DX if I had to watch it again. They never should have shown the jump in trailers. Since I knew what was going to happen, the magic was taken out of the expereince. I'm pretty sure the Italian audiences lost their minds at a FIAT doing doughnuts near the Spanish steps. And for ONCE can the women in these movies not be so damn disposable??? Killing off Ferguson was just...ugh. I'm a huge Mission Impossible fan but this is far from my favorite out of all installments. Hopefully pt.2 is better.
I don’t like Tom Cruise or these type movies but this was a great review! Perfect for me who wants to know about the movie but doesn’t want to watch it 😅❤😊 Thanks guys bunches and bunches
...when Ethan has the chance to either choose his ex-girlfriend dies or Grace dies, I was like "what a no brainer, have you forgotten that girl left you to get smashed by a train?" But NO! he, as you say, just keeps saving her lol
Tom Cruise has sure come a long way since Risky Business. I think his War of the Worlds movie is probably my favourite. I recall reading that he was involved with the relaunch of the Universal Monsters movies with his own work on the Mummy movie, but I have not seen it yet.
I watched the movie last night, and literally thought of you as I was watching the opening scene with the Russian's-who-aren't-Russian speak in an accented-English accent. :D
Humble opinion. I appreciated the non stop action, girl who keep betraying should have been chained to something in a tunnel, because of her she was creating more for Tom. I can’t wait for the second series to this. Gray battle scenes. Damn near crashed into everything in film county, massive amount of money to make this I bet. Lol! You guys rock, this where I come when I’ve seen a movie that needed explaining.
The last one i saw was 3 (?) w Philip Seymour Hoffman. I need to catch up. Say what you want about Cruise but he's one hell of an action star and for the most part does all his own stunts even at his age. The first movie i saw him in was Ridley Scott's Legend which doesn't get enough love. I was obsessed with it as a kid in the 80's. Vanilla Sky is my favorite film of his.
I've really enjoyed the Mission Impossible franchise, with the first being my least favorite. All the movies are good and this one had some great action scenes but a lot of the movie dragged and I'm not sure about the 'entity' being the bad guy. It's a cool concept and maybe the second movie will take it further. Already had a taste of it in the movie Eagle Eye and that was a cool movie. Rebecca Ferguson definitely deserved a better send off 😣 She's an amazing actress and they barely gave her any lines and didn't let her go out like the badass she is! Really like Esai Morales. Felt like they weren't sure what to do with him though. They made him all icy and cold and then they made him an out of control sadistic wildcard so ... Wtf? Maybe they are going for a chaotic joker vibe? Guess we'll find out what that flashback was about in the next movie. It's funny you mention the hair 😂 During the motorcycle scene I actually thought: Hey, he finally has a stunt double! because his hair was such a lighter color LMAO.
I agree with the 3 stars, for me it started out great and then just was disappointing, Was annoying how many times they mention the key, still fun though.
Totally agree with your review re Grace I would have abandoned her too, like why did he care so much about her. Overall I really liked this, no one does stunts or running like Tom Cruise. Story was ridiculous but in a fun good way, would def say watch on the big screen as some of the set pieces are amazing to watch.
I haven't seen any Misson Impossible films bc they're long and i know I'll just hate them. However, I have a giant movie poster of Born on the Fourth of July bc I looove the book/film. Tom Cruise's personal life is a disaster but that man is a MOVIE STAR, just like you said. He gives everything 1000% and i respect that. (Yes i know Scientology is bad and evil but he's a great actor so if he wants to be in a space cult, he can go head) There's buzzing that he's not attending events or promoting much anymore so hopefully he's come to his senses. Probably not tho lol
👍Cruise is an amazing actor. He always delivers! 👎Too bad he's a shill for scientology. ❤I love the Fish Jelly guys soooo much! I always check with them before seeing ANY movie. (I still watch Tom Cruise movies, but I believe people should know Scientology defends sexual abuse & promotes child MARRIAGE. It's not just a benign positive thinking group.)
Great review and very enjoyable movie...a solid 3...that being said Nick must have been feeling very generous to give Dial of Destiny the same score as this
It felt long to me too. Spoiler I hate movies where a character is saved and then later on killed in film. Way of the gun is one my favorite movies. Love the baby jane shirt
The plot of this movie sounds similar to some of the plot points in the latest Indiana Jones movie you guys reviewed. With the Key being separate parts.
Not an insult but Nick you remind me of Flula Borg, have anyone ever mentioned that before? Great review, it's refreshing to see critics that don't say it's the best Mission Impossible. For me its in the middle of the rankings of them all.
I think Joseph would've enjoyed this more if he had seen Rogue Nation and Fallout---and maybe also the very first film. A lot of the emotional impact and stakes in the film are incredibly enhanced if you've seen those films beforehand.
I don't like how it was handled. Rebecca is such a good actress and they barely gave her character anything to say or do. Bad enough they are killing her off (and telegraphing it a mile away) but they did it without giving her character the exit she deserved.
I don’t understand why Tom Cruise keeps killing off likable characters in his franchise including Henry Cavil, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, and now Rebecca Furguson. Like yes MI is all about Tom Cruise, but these supporting cast also brings in big draws from the audience. When you keep killing them off and bring new people, it got a bit hard to accept the new characters.
I’ve seen all these movies… but I really can’t remember anything about the stories just the stunt stuff… I just don’t think they are great…but I guess while I’m there watching I like em…but immediately forget them except vague memories stunts which I couldn’t recall which movie they were in… Tom cruise is pretty cool.
Yes, please review Sound of Freedom. After being made 5 years ago & finally distributed in limited number of theaters, still made #1 box July 4th-some movie history there & true subject matter about children will grab your ❤️.
@@EzeICE And I'm so glad I did as 1. the review helped me decide NEVER to waste time and money on the overpaid, scientolog Cruise ridiculous, childish Bond-wannabe nonsense 2. it obviously offended a hardcore Cruise fanboy like you 😂😁🤑😆🤪🥵🙃🤮🤐😴😤🤡💀🥶😭🤠😵💫🤧
Ohh, of course i super respect Nick's opinion, but hearing him saying that running is what Tom Cruise does best seems reductive to me. Tom is mainly known nowadays for these well put, big action spectacles, but i think he has always been a really good and versatile actor. He has an incredible filmography, he has worked with amazing directors and he has given great, nuanced performances in such movies as The Color of Money, Rain Man, Born on the 4th of July, Interview With The Vampire, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Minority Report, Lions for Lambs and Collateral. If anything, i think he is underrated and underappreciated as a performer because he is primarily seen as a movie mega star.
I’ve Been a long time fan of Tom Cruise, Ever since Risky Business. And have seen all of his movies, even the one with Brooke Shields. I think his best performance is in “BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY.” And “Magnolia.” I’ve loved all the mission impossible films. But for some reason, I HAVE ZERO interest in seeing this new one. Absolutely zero. It’s so strange. I saw the trailer when it first came out, and I was BORED. It shocked me, how bored I was when I should be going CRAZY for it. Maybe it has something to do with “TOP GUN: MAVERICK.” I absolutely HATED that movie. HATED IT. The only redeeming aspect of that film was the scene with Val. Other than that, GARBAGE 🗑️. Again, it’s funny because I love the original “TOP GUN.” But yeah. Maybe I’ll stream this one day, but not rushing out to see it any time.
That would have been so crazy if at the end of the flash instead of Clooney it was cruise. Then the batmobile would have Cruise control. It would also be a cheeky nod why cruise recommended it so highly

Joseph a little 'bothered' by a delinquent thief character here🤭Remember these 'characters' like the young male leads, from Black Adam, Extraction (2) and Indiana Jones:Dial of Destiny. May be editing them out, to less time, could shorten the movie's length time as well, by 15 minutes😆
Absolutely 💯 epic. Besides some cheesy dialogue and funny lines about “the entity” and other silly plots I’ll say this turn to be one of the best action pieces that I have seen since fury road. Characters went berserk specially Paris, love that villain and the chemistry between Grace and Ethan work also very well too. A very enjoyable theatre experience. Oppenheimer isn’t the movie this year to take u back to cinema, is Mission Impossible dead reckoning part 1
