I own a small 3 screens movie theater and COVID was tough on my business and Top Gun 2 LITERALLY saved my movie theater from going out of business, so thank you, Tom Cruise!
I've seen every movie I'm really interested in at the theaters. Even the WB ones that were day and date streaming in 2021. Going to the theater is something I will always love. Curious...did No Way Home do really well at your theater you own?
I am 46 years old and have watched Tom Cruise go through his many stages in life. I can say that after watching this video of him on Jimmy Kimmel that this is my favorite version of Tom Cruise by far. As an older gentleman he seems to carry much more wisdom and displays a more humbled version of himself. I'm liking it very much
It's love for his craft, a normal sized ego for a big star, and maturity that makes him that way. Anyone criticizing him for the money he earns is simply immature and jealous...and apparently....bored.
Tom shouting out Val Kilmer is amazing. It was understood when they did the first top gun that Val was an incredibly talented Juliard trained actor. Tom had not quite established himself yet as more than a pretty face. The fact that Tom would not do this movie without a cameo from Val despite his battle with throat cancer just shows the immense respect between the men
@@AstroBear11and then again, he can show real excitement, real I say! What a gift to be able to show his love like that, I’ll take it every time and be excited along with him! He is a great man, a great actor and a great producer!
He was soooo right to take this to the theater. My dad and I went to a movie for the first time together to see Top Gun: Maverick and he wanted so bad to hate it, but he loved it, and could not stop talking about it. 😂❤
Saw it two weeks ago, was sceptical of all the hype, but it was absolutely incredible, you don't see action-thrillers like this anymore today! (Except the Mission: Impossible-Franchise :D )
That scene of Maverick talking to Iceman is honestly one of my favorite dramatic moments in movie history. These men have known each other for so long that they don’t BS each other so they can be vulnerable with each other. I’m so happy Tom Cruise fought to get Val Kilmer back for this scene. I still tear up at that scene.
I met Tom a few years ago when he was doing press for the movie “ American Made “ He really does go the extra mile for his fans, there were so many damn people at this event and I feel like Tom stayed and took pictures and signed things for just about everyone…. Tom gives new meaning to the word “Movie Star” ,he’s in a class by himself at this point
If you can't appreciate Tom's commitment to his movie-making, then you are already dead and don't know it yet. He did that bike/parachute stunt 8 times till he was happy with the end result. Legend
@@OfentseMwaseFilms haa i understand Avatar is looks animation to me But I don't think any scene of top gun is VFX that's great but... Code word accepted 😅 you're right
Longevity in this business is often overlooked. Being on the top of the game for a long time like Tom Cruise is quite an achievement on its own right. He is 60 by the way. He is such an ultimate professional and I admire him for that. He is an embodiment of a Hollywood star back in the good old days. Polite, professional, confident, smiling and appreciative of the audience. What not to like?!
He thanks his audience for giving him the "honor" of entertaining them, No one will ever accuse Tom of being lazy or lacking of guts,You can have nothing but respect for this man!
i know what you're trying to say and agree with you. if anyone commenting here had been a top 5 actor for 40 years, people could pick them apart. under the microscope for that long, i know they'd fail the same test they're giving him.
@@lorcanzo2498I don’t know a whole lot about Scientology but I still think Tom does some awesome stuff, you kinda have to separate the art from the artist sometimes
The Last Great Movie Star!!! They don’t make them like this anymore. The respect he had for the fans and the fact he stood up to the studio and held out to keep the film in theaters vs streaming is amazing.
@@Anindyatejo I don't think you got my point. The new James Bond actually *didn't even make profit.* Top Gun on the other hand made damn near 2 *billion* at this point. So... *who?*
Teared up at the clip when Tom talks to Val not just because of the scene itself but because the movie as a whole has become such a cultural touchstone for our generation. The fact that Tom Cruise has remained an idol not only for us but also the generation before us is nothing if not the biggest achievement resulting out of pure passion, dedication and consistent committment... To entertain! Top Gun: Maverick is the first movie in my life that I've seen 5 times in theaters. Hoping for one last IMAX re-release post Oscars so I can finally get my dad to watch it too. Will definitely hit different!
He is so passionate about his work and his mission of making good films and entertaining audiences. As a school teacher for 31 years, and a parent for 19 years, there is nothing I want more for others. Find your passion and follow it completely. Congrats to Mr. Cruise for all he has achieved and I wish him the best in the future.
@@weburnitatbothends I just think it is awesome when a person finds something they are passionate about. He does what he loves with 100% commitment to it. I don't have to agree with his beliefs, though I really don't know them or his reasons for them. Everyone gets their own beliefs. I don't think opinions are right or wrong.
Top gun was the anthem for our lives back in the day. My beloved best friend and I spent our summer nights hanging out on the side of the Top Gun house and cruzing the strand in O'side. Tom and Val were like all the boys we knew growing up near Camp Pendlton and San Diego. The scene with these two old friends brings me to tears...because my friend is gone and it reflects so beautifully the admiration and precious time we had together. Tom Cruise thank you for giving us your best always.
So sorry about your friend!! The story was just so good & you sharing it with us tells alot about your love to your friend...Thank you & Blessings to you and your family always from puerto rico with lots of love
I think Jimmy truly got choked up about 10:30 in, talking about that scene with Tom and Val Kilmer. It was emotional, idk but I thought that looked like he was genuinely affected by it.
You weren't? I'd assume there wasn't a dry eye in every theater during that scene. I just watched it for the 5th time tonight and still teared up during that scene.
Yeah, I noticed that too. It's a great scene. I'm glad Tom insisted that Val be in the movie, and I'm glad Val did it. That took a lot of guts to appear in that scene.
@@nataliezementbeisser1492that makes me respect him more. I can understand doing dangerous stunts while you are on the come up. But the fact he already has that much money but is still doing crazy stunts is wild
i have met Tom Cruise during an interview for his Oblivion movie。He is so down to earth, professional and charming。Doing those stunts over and over again is insane。I wish him a long healthy life so we can enjoy more of his work 🎬
I've met this glorious man 3 times ... and I am a nobody and he remembers people .... Tom is truly a generous spirit. He is very kind and funny and doesn't rush the moment. I could never find the patience or find the energy to give and give and give.
I’m a flight attendant and work with a different crew on every flight. So we meet just before the flight and after 8 or 10 hours I usually don’t remember the face of my pilots. I’m always surprised when I see them again at the end. I guess that’s why we wear a uniform, to make me know we are in the same team. 😂
@JZ's BFF and he knows about all the abuse that's been happening and is ok with it.... And he has disconnected from his child and ex wife. Great man...... He isn't making movies for the fans. He is making movies for the money. Hollywood is a joke. Jimmy Kimmel is a joke that isn't funny. Someone with a team of writers and he still isn't funny....
@JZ's BFF he's a high ranking member, has a multitude of religiously brainwashed "servants" that attend to every beck and call he has, presumably had/has a heavy substance abuse problem, etc. List goes on, are you really going to defend some looney bag because he read a few lines off a script in a movie you liked? The fact that he's a scientologist alone should put people off, but the fact that he's so high ranking they gave this dude a team of staff to attend to his needs should make literally everybody question this dude.
It’s been said time and time again… you can tell how genuine a celebrity is by how they treat the side kick. Not every guest extends a greeting to Guillermo when they strut in.
Wow what a great gesture that took a lot of effort. He’s genuine for sure but a lot of celebrities even go out of their way to even give a handshake or hug to Guillermo
I really like how age and time has matured and calmed him a lot. I am really loving his mission movies, Oblivion, Edge of tomorrow and Top Gun. Keep 'em coming, Mr. Cruise! I do not blame him for dodging drama and not showing up at a lot of events. Just do your own thing, my man!
I think with Tom Cruise, it's so easy to do both at the same time. I love him for his charm and charisma, his mastery of his craft, his committed ideals in regard to the cinema industry...but it's hard to reconcile that with his place and affiliation with a demented and sociopathic cult that engages in brainwashing and harming people's lives. So...yeah, not a personal attack really, just an acknowledgement that for me, Tom Cruise is almost always two different men, in my mind.
So true. I still don't know whether to love or hate him sometimes (I lean heavily towards love). He is very impressive in that he very rarely takes a misstep in the movies he makes. IMDB shows he has 50 credits for Acting. Less than a handful were truly duds.
I have immense respect for this man, he excels consistently and just gets better. He's got balls of steel and boundless enthusiastic imagination. A man's man.
@@tigerlily9981 cmon, you nor any of us know what really happened in his personal life. As it should be, it’s none of our business. I don’t think about any of that. He’s a movie star and I appreciate that and all his movies😊 …not to mention, he’s a tremendous athlete as well. Amazingly fit at 60 to do all his own stunts, respect!
And that is why I can't hate him, despite the fact that I find his personal beliefs rather ... different, shall we say. I understand the image he projects in interviews is a carefully crafted one and we are probably watching his finest performance when he answers questions, but...as long as he keeps running in his films, I'll be in line to buy a ticket.
LMAO. Hes so over paid..... He literally is in charge of it all so he pays himself whatever he wants so he can eget even higher in the church of scientology
SHAH RUKH KHAN Indian actor is more popular and has a largest fan base in the world and 2nd richest actor in the world. Not comparing to Tom cruise. He’s as Equal may be even more little higher popular in the world.
tom is worth about over $600mil and he is 4th highest paid actor ever and Jerry Seinfeld is 1st and he is worth $1 billion lol . i couldn't believe when i see that Jerry Seinfeld is worth $1 billion . not saying Jerry Seinfeld isn't good but dam he sure shouldn't be 1st highest paid actor/comedian , if that not over paid and overrated i don't know what is
Tom is kind, patient and a real good teammate to have on a film. He supports everyone on the project. I will never forget him standing next to me singing Guns N Roses on the mix stage at Warner Brothers.
I wish I had the stones Tom does. I don't care how many people are watching me, I'm not hanging off an airplane. Dude pulled off one of the most dangerous maneuvers in helicopter history for Fallout and learned how to do it in like six weeks. Tom Cruise is a lunatic and I love him for it.
@@dh6565 OMG it's like everyone in this comment section is either living in an alternate reality or being paid to gush about him. He should be good at acting by now, plays the same damn character in every one of his movies. Plus, former Sea Org members who have escaped Scientology, have said he's an absolute sociopath in private with the emotional maturity of a spoiled child and his charm is a complete facade. David Miscavage has created a slave labour force to bend to Tom's every whim and Tom's been perfectly happy to go along with it, for decades at this point.
I’m just personally so happy for that 14 year old girl that probably no one at school believed she saw Tom cruise and the photo on her phone was actually him. She can now show this clip to everybody and say she told them so 😄
Tom Cruise is way more than many other actors deserving an Oscar. Action movie is a category of movies, and nobody doing better than him in this category.
The 1st time I saw Tom Cruise was in "Risky Business" and I knew that it was something about this guy. I have enjoyed ALL of his movies and my favorite are between "The Firm" and "A Few Good Men" in which I believe he did his best work. A great actor and will be remembered as one of the best in cinematic history.
Well, definitely bc he is literally the Jesus-like figurehead of a religion that takes millions of dollars from people to tell them their souls were trapped in a volcano by the galactic overlord Zulu. He is their Messiah, no joke. When he first converted to Scientology, he was an absolute whack-job about it for a while. I boycotted his movies around the time when Mission Impossible 3 came out. He's since calmed down significantly with all that, at least in the public eye, and continues to make fantastic movies, so the strong majority of us (including myself) have forgiven him. We just gloss over that part now. I've since watched Mission Impossible 3 and of course it's awesome.
I could go to hollywood throw a stone and hit half a dozen actors taller, less fragile with better acting capabilities than he is capable of. Ive seen better acting in the activia commercials.
Top Gun Maverick is one of the best movies I’ve ever watched and truly a breathtaking experience in the cinema. I’ve seen it several times already and it still never gets old. Tom Cruise is a true Action Star and it’s always a thrill ride watching his films. So excited for more Mission!
It is a delight to watch these long interviews with him. His insight and view on movies and how they should be made and what they can do is always something i want to hear.
Tom cruise is a damn good actor. Don’t know why he is not awarded an Oscar. This is heinous- needs to be corrected. It’s not just his stunts, or his dedication to the film industry, but his emotional expressions in the movies definitely deserve an Oscar. Love u Tom.
@@TomCruise- well - I am a female. But more than your charismatic looks, I am totally mesmerized by your dedication to the film industry, your willingness to enhance quality of work you do & last but not least, extremely touched by your humility. A rare commodity in a person of your stature. Keep it up. Btw, is this really Tom Cruise? Or is someone pulling my leg? Either way, my comments r genuine. Wishing all the best for Tom. Waiting for the day when he is awarded an Oscar
Oscar or not, he’s one of, if not the most brilliant most versatile actors we’ve ever had the pleasure / honour of experiencing in our lifetimes. Thank you for all you do Tom!!
I am so impressed with this man. He has reinvented himself again... A few days ago, I watched Collateral, almost 20 years later he is still very good at what he does
I didn't even have to watch the segment to already give it a like. I just like him as a person and am glad that he comes on a Late Night Show to be interviewed. A great actor and a great movie
I've always liked Tom Cruise for top gun and mission impossible, but I freaking love him for Les Grosman. I always knew he was an amazing action actor and a touching and sincere dramatic actor. But wow, he is a hilarious comedic actor as well!
drama, action, comedy .. basically he's a perfect actor .. one of the most influential persons across 3 generations. he shouldve won an oscar for A Few Good Men
Truly, I adore this man. Also I'm the exact same height as him. It's a bond that I share with Tom Cruise. But also, he's so gracious and great at what he does, and he's done it for all of the decades that I've lived. Thank you Tom Cruise
He truly is the biggest movie star working today. Dedicated, talented, willing to go all the way. While there're many, many great, talented actors out there, he outruns them by pure commitment to do just great entertainment for the big screen. Can't help but respect that.
@jssny2240 - He may be weird, he may be crazy, he may be whatever you think (and I tend to agree with a lot of it), but you can't deny his acting, his stunt work, or his amazing movies! It is possible to separate the two competing thoughts. Much like OJ and his football prowess and Michael Jackson and him being the king of pop. You may not like the person for whatever reason, but you can still like the art.
@@GS-ky5ts I would have loved to have seen it in IMAX. I went to the largest VMAX with dolby and that was great. So I can only imagine what IMAX would be like.
I always love seeing Tom cruise. He's such an incredible actor with a great smile. I was obsessed with him as a teenager. Ever since saw top gun for the first time. I too was very emotional with seeing him with val kilmer/ice Man. Wish him luck at the Oscars 🥰
There are no more adjectives to describe how incredible Tom Cruise is, but applause to the cameraman for keeping Tom in frame when he got up to acomodate his trausers
Tom Cruise is possibly the only actor living who has the *Star Power* to dictate terms to the Hollywood moguls that control the movie business. That at the age of 60 he is fit enough, and most importantly, willing to do the insanely dangerous stunts that Jimmy Kimmel highlighted in this video, is unprecedented. He rides fast motorcycles; flies propeller planes, jets, and helicopters, free fall skydives, and lives his life on his terms with a minimum of interference from the Hollywood moneymen. Gotta admire that.
My favorite part with Val was when Iceman asks, "So, which of us is the better pilot?" and Maverick says, "We just had a beautiful moment - let's not ruin it." That was total respect - no fighter pilot likes to admit anyone is better, and when Ice was healthy, you can be sure Mav would always say he was the best - but here he implies it with a joke, without saying it.
Tom really is truly great. From Legend to Risky Business to Mission to Last Samurai to Top Gun he's just an absolute treasure. I love you Tom. Thanks for being a madman for our entertainment.
I remember watching Top Gun as a teenager and walking back home on air… I was in love with Tom instantly. Over the years that changed but still he has something special..
I love Tom Cruise's whole body of work. This was a great interview. His acting ability and his commitment to action as well as acting is the best. ♥️🙏🏾
I just love ep. Like these. No tension just free talking and vibes. There wasnt any awkward moment just genuine conversation. Plus Jimmy needs to stop interrupting when the guests are telling a story just so he can put in a joke but other than that pretty good
It helps that they are friends in real life. Jimmy tells the story of Tom Cruise bringing his mom over to Jimmy's weekly NFL watching party, and staying from pre 1st game kickoff until the end of Sunday night football.
Tom is in a class of his own. Say what you will. I love the fact in almost all of his interviews he talks about entertaining the people. And doing it for them. That's what makes him tick I guess. Jordan didn't want to miss a game because there's a fan out there that saved a lot of money to see him. In other words, he does it for the the fans too. Tom is the same way..
I love Tom. He so inspires me. Whenever I have to do something difficult I put on some Top Gun Maverick music and tell myself I can do it! He puts it all out there all the time. He does everything with fierce determination and dedication. He shows what is possible in human form. I think he should have been nominated for an Oscar for best actor for Maverick. The movie was epic and he is an extremely good actor too.
Scientology trains people to be able to do this. It’s rigorous training where they spew insults and other emotional prompts in order to try and get a reaction from the student. Once the student doesn’t flinch they pass. It’s absolutely terrible.
What I love the most the about this man is that he is soooo passionate about what he does and you can obviously see how much he loves doing what he does. That is why he is the KING of the game.
This is a wonderful conversation. Great mood and vibe. The man doesn't get enough love for his humble yet brave nature. Very gracious. As a movie lover since I was 4 cuz it kept me away from my drunken parents, I've always wanted to create my own stories but my father always would tear me down rather than encourage me. Im happy to see someone who lives to create stories for us to love. I would love to have that opportunity. He's very inspiring.
Really like this recent version of Tom Cruise. Always was talented but he gives a vibe of really loving what he does while respecting all who he works with and genuinely giving his best efforts for his fans.
I deeply love two of his movies: "Interview with the Vampire" and "Oblivion". Both different, both endearing. In my humble opinion, his acting was superb and he really embraced the characters. Also great soundtracks. I do hope Mr. Cruise keeps doing movies for years to come.
It's refreshing to see a modern day Hollywood actor that's just a genuine movie fan. He's talked about how, when he was just starting out, he would learn from the legends he was working with, like Paul Newman. He's also said he tries to see at least part of a film every day.
First movie I saw after Covid was Top Gun Maverick so yes, Tom Cruise totally saved the movie business & WOW was it worth it!! Went back one more time!
look at that beautiful sun of a gun, tell what you want but that man is the definition of a true movie star and professionalism and dedication. Cant wait for MISSION ...
He's really calmed down and is very humble, even at the pinnacle of return to stardom. Being successful and relatable and humble is one of the best things a person can do.
Although I always admired him as an actor, I have had many prejudices about him. After seeing him in several interviews I can see that I was always wrong, he seems like a humble and very grateful person. Thank you very much for making us enjoy Tom!
I think he’s trying to show his personal side which is refreshing and lovely. After watching him for 30+ years this interview is the most fun and natural he’s ever been ❤
I would really love to see the Tom Cruise of today look back on his Eyes Wide Shut experience and talk about what he's applied to his producing choices from working with Kubrick
Well that changed Tom's career in so many ways like Cruise wanted to work with every top director at least once (Scorsese, Oliver Stone, De Palma, etc), and Stanley was next. After that movie, you see a shift in the movies Tom chose. He was not doing these dramatic roles anymore, it was all big budget popcorn movies even still to this day. Collateral may be the exception. I think his acting is underrated, I think he's a fantastic actor, and his dedication to movies. I mean what more can I say? I saw Top Gun in theaters 3 times. It reminded so many of us how great the theater experience is with a movie that fun.
@@genius179He did also Magnolia which wasn't a pop corn movie and he acted amazing in this movie and there's a few good men with the legendary actor Jack Nicholson.
