The Mission Inn Festival of Lights is one of my favorite things to do every December. This event features millions of lights on the historic Mission Inn Hotel in Riverside, California. Over the last two years, the event is much less grand but it is still a fun night out with the family to get in the Christmas spirit. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Proud to say this is my hometown...born and raised in the City of Riverside. Has changed a great deal since the mid century...some good some not so good but completely love the Mission Inn.

I love the Mission Inn. My family and I have made it a tradition to stay there during Christmas. I love swimming in the heated pool at night looking up at all the lit palm trees. Thanks for the video!

Awesome! This is one thing I miss about my hometown. The Mission Inn is such a unique place. Hard to believe it was boarded up and going to be demolished in the 80s. We actually had some family friends who lived in the Mission Inn when they were renting out the rooms as apartments in the 70s. It’s really impressive now.

I think about how it was boarded up and I'm so grateful to the present owner who restored it. He made his fortune on frozen burritos! Thank you Duane and Kelly Roberts.

@@braveknight2000 Actually Duane Roberts didn’t restore the Mission Inn, he bought it when the renovations were nearly complete. Smart business man for sure. Making a decent frozen burrito, not so much 🤮

@@braveknight2000 But they’ve kept it up really well. It’s a huge attraction to bring people to Riverside. And they have some great restaurants there

I can't believe I didn't know about this when I lived in California. I am crazy for Christmas lights. We used to go to Candy Cane Lane in the San Fernando Valley. Thanks for taking me to see it! So pretty, love the flowers.

I live in Riverside and I was there tonight and I immediately thought/noticed something felt different…There were definitely less lights! Your video confirmed it! Great summary of the area!

Glad to see they’re keeping the tradition going. I can only imagine how crazy it will be once they come back with a full event. Have you ever been inside during their past festivals of light? I’ve always been curious if it’s decked out in there as well. Completely agree on Baba’s! so good!

Yea seriously, it was getting busier as the night went on but nothing like how it used to be. Yea, the inside is nice, they have a gingerbread house usually and a big nice tree. Nothing crazy but pretty decorations for sure.

Hey Josh, great video! Hope you and the family are doing well. And thank you for making the Top Things to Do in Riverside list/video, it was a recommendation of mine when you and your dad did a live stream Q&A on RU-vid a couple of months ago. Ok. Good to know that this year was scaled down. I went for my first time last night and after walking through it I was like "Ummm, is that it?" It's still cool, and it was free, but I was expecting more. My favorite part was the automatons on the hotel balconies above the flying buttresses facing Orange Street.

Is the area around there generally safe? I was planning on walking from the Mission Inn to the Riverside Food Lab 2 blocks down. Will probably be about 7pm.

You could visit higher elevations and see whats going on where there is snow on the ground, maybe Truckee or Lake Tahoe ?

It was nice but nothing like last years. Still worth the drive but u need to go before 5, to go into stores but it’s pretty I loved it.

Yea, I am pretty sure this is how it is this year. I almost always go on weekdays so I don't think it is any different on the weekend. Maybe someone will correct this if it is wrong though

They usually have a tree lighting ceremony on Black Friday. Checked the website before I planned to take my family and they said it was cancelled this year again. Still worth taking the kids. I was hoping they would have the vendors at least hot chocolate and mini donuts or chorros. Are the donuts from the shop you mentioned decent?

Yea the lighting event was cancelled last year too. They used to lit it every day at the same time as well and people would gather but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I would say that the donuts are hit or miss. I have had some amazing ones and some not as good. The flavors change constantly though so I always try them when I am in the area.

I was just there 2 nights ago. No one ever asked or checked if I was a registered guest everyone I saw was able to come and go inside and outside hotel with no issues. It was lovely
