The Mission Inn Festival of Lights - is this the most Insane hotel in California!?

My hometown! Went to MI many times to do the historic museum tour (they used to take you down thru the catacombs, where I believed had vampires in the walls!) & stayed there a few times. My friends & I used to urban explore there, had a couple of friends who had apartments there & watched it become what it is today! The symbol of the rain cross is the Riverside emblem. Definitely recommend for you to go back to take the tour(s). The building & it's history are fascinating! So glad to have grown up here💜

Wow. I have never seen that many Christmas decorations in a giant hotel. This place looks EXTREMELY Incredible and Interesting. And Would You Look At The Schize of those nutcrackers.

This was our Christmas tradition growing up in CA, it was definitely a sight to behold. Something that is amazing to see in person. 🥰 So glad you went and shared. I needed some home Christmas cheer.

Fun Fact: The Mission Inn was featured in the opening shot of The Twilight Zone episode "Ring-a-Ding Girl" (S5, E13). Also, I grew up in Riverside and used to explore the catacombs as a teen back in the mid 70's. Good times!

The "hotel logo" on the door's ironwork is actually a Raincross. It's a historic symbol of the City of Riverside. You see them all over town.

Love that place. It reminds me of Hurst Castle. I would never go there at Christmas. Too many people. Some of the architecture is actually Moorish. The antique stores nearby are awesome. I love to eat outside in the courtyard. Yes, it is easy to get lost inside.

I am lucky to have clicked on this video as I have a room reservation in 2 days for the hotel and Christmas lights for my girlfriends birthday. You did such a phenomenal job with great effort and the Hotel should give you a free upgraded room for your efforts !!! So excited to see this video pop up! I love this hotel so much. It’s so beautiful during the holidays, but is also great for a night out. I got to stay here once too, so got to wander around all of the nooks and crannies. They used to do ghost tours in Downtown Riverside many years ago - they took us to the catacombs, which if I remember correctly, included the hotel. Not sure if they do that anymore, but they should!

I miss the old Buffets they had pre-shutdowns... We stayed there one time in one of the "Artists Suites" , up there on top overlooking the central plaza...and it was an amazing room!

The Mission Inn is very impressive during Christmastime, but maybe I'm biased, I think The Hotel Del Coronado is even more impressive during the holidays. Over a decade ago a girl I was dating convinced her religious aunt that The Mission Inn is an actual California mission. The aunt was really upset to find out once they arrived to check it out that it is only a hotel. That gingerbread house is cool, but when I went to the Mission Inn they had the cinnamon roll cart right next to the gingerbread house! It goes to most California fairs, and it is one of my most favorite things. Celiac disease probably prevents you from eating it, but their rolls are fantastic. How does The Mission Inn compare to The Madonna Inn? I've driven past it several times, and I was really jealous when you stayed there. A very cool video! You see a lot more of The Mission Inn when one actually stay's there. It looks like that spiral hole courtyard is your "Tower of Terror."

I’m sure you two know this, but The Mission Inn’s architecture inspired The Hollywood Tower Hotel, I have been a fan of your videos since You and Ally went in the Orlando version of Tower Of Terror for the first time together and I’m glad you’ve both had a lot of love and healing this year, to you both Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

I love the Mission Inn, and I lived there in the early 80’s when the city owned it. Thanks for showing it’s true beauty and holiday brilliance! In college, our chamber singers group sang in the rotunda every holiday season…great acoustics, but like you, I hated the heights.

Maybe the room was available because the animatron scared everyone else away! Thanks for a wonderful tour. I lived in Riverside in the 60's but never had a chance to go inside the Inn.

Beautifully cared for place, hopefully they see this and let you see more behind the scenes on the next visit as you have a genuine passion for it. The Animatronic isn't so bad out there, it would really scare people of it disappeared and came back or changed positions, also my purile brain went guarenteed at the Tequila bar when you said about possible spirits.

Hey you were in my neck of the woods. Just went by there a few hours ago to see the lights. Rumor is there’s an under ground tunnel the leads from the mission inn up to Mt. Rubidoux that were used to smuggle in alcohol during the prohibition.

Thanks for the indepth video! Im a socal native. We moved to the san bernardino mountains and i go to Redlands and riverside often. I recommend looking at the christmas lights . in downtown redlands. Its like main st usa . I have not gone in the mission inn but have taken pics outside many years. Lots of wonderful victorian y un the area . Merry christmas

I stayed there once to get out of the heat. You literally do not have to leave the hotel, it is like a little village of it’s own. Between the restaurants , stores, museum, galleries, gardens, courtyards, spa, pool, and everything you can explore in the hotel; it is a destination all in itself. I went to nearby shops, the park and to Ticos Tacos, but otherwise, I just spent a lot of time at the pool, and in restaurants, just enjoying the ambience whenI wasn’t chasing ghosts around the hotel.

Wow i been watching u for years and u make a video of Mission In which is way closer to me compared to disneyland, thats crazy, i enjoyed this and always hope to meet u some day. I also wanted to mention the antique shop but u found it. I hope u like it and the rest of downtown riverside.

The chapel looks like the Alamo in San Antonio. There is a trail from San Antonio Texas to San Diego California.

Mission Inn parking hack. If you go down Mission Inn Ave to the old spaghetti factory, there is a place called Sam's Bann Thai. He's been closed for a year or two now, but he will either validate your parking if his business is open and you dine there, or the bank and his parking lot will be open and during closing hours you can park there. From there the Mission Inn is about a 6-7 block hike down Mission Inn Ave. You get some good views of some other old Downtown buildings.

LOL, you were just one arch away from the Asian plaza, but that is how the Mission Inn gets you, every time you go there is something different.

If you take a docent tour, they will tell you that Taft did NOT have that chair made, and he was insulted they made it for him.

I remember going in the late 70s when it really wasn’t a hotel per day more like a apartment complex. Then the late 80s when the bank foreclosed. Then the early 90s when it was back to its glory days and staying for my honeymoon. Leaving riverside in 2009 and not really being back for any length of time makes me miss it. Maybe my 30th anniversary 🥹
