Always enjoy making these “What Once Was…” videos! Hope y’all like this one! Also I apologize for mispronouncing Helena once or twice in the video.

Great preservation of railroad history. The little Delta Eagle may be insignificant to most railroaders, but it is very special in the Mississippi Delta.

My dad worked for MOPAC for 30 years retiring in 1974.

That's really interesting. My dad was a fireman for Mopac from the late 50's through the '60's in Mcgehee. Cool video!

As someone who’s not originally from this area, please continue these videos. The history of railroads and what was here previously is very interesting. Great work as always.

I would love to see an episode on the Illinois central Southwest Ltd and Northeastern Ltd passenger trains between Shreveport and Meridian MS.

My understanding is some of the wealthy politically connected planter families in Lake Providence and Tallulah, Louisiana, were heavily invested in MoPac preferred stock. Without going into too much detail, the railroad was in a particularly rocky reorganization after going into receivership in 1933. They wanted friends in Baton Rouge to keep what we now call corporate raiders from breaking the railroad apart.

Nice job with the video. Locomotive 7100 had been reassigned to McGehee, substituting for the bad-ordered Motorailer 670, and actually pulled the last run of the Helena-McGehee service in 1960.

Thanks a ton LRP!!! Great video! I’ve traced this line from Helena to the White river with many interesting sights still visible in 2023. A large part of the route from Helena down to Elaine AR is now a nice rails to trails greenway. Down around Snow Lake AR there are concrete supports with “1946” visibly cast into them. The line crossed a huge area of delta swamp land at the White River with elevated track. Must have felt like you were taking a train through the trees! There is a nice museum in Helena at the head of the trail with alot of information, MOPAC artifacts and friendly hosts. Definitely will do this trip again!

Great video Bishop, pal! It reminds me of the 1950s. Also, I do have a video suggestion. If you were wondering, would you like to cover the NS NO&NE Subdivision?

Before there was an Amtrak Pioneer, there was the Missouri Pacific Pioneer. I'm not sure of it's route out of San Antonio, but from there, it either went to Brownsville, or Laredo. Maybe you could do a clip on this train also? I'm curious about it, myself.

The MoPac Pioneer was a night train from Houston to Brownsville. Its daytime counterpart was the Valley Eagle, which had a stub connection from Odom to Corpus Christi.

Lots of work has been done in the last year or so. Still got some rough areas, but a lot of the length has been improved.

Was baggage carried in the back part of the locomotive?
