MISTAKE??? Taking a colorful floral into a minimal technique! Sometimes the painting takes a turn.

In this video I share what I thought was a floral, but I decided at some point that is not what the painting wanted. I just did not feel that floral but once I took it a difference direction, it took off. I share several paintings with this style

Hi Cheryl, it's very encouraging to see how you create wonderful pictures from a "mistake". I love it, thank you

You are so welcome! It opens me to being vulnerable as abstract is so open to each artist's interpretation!! But, I promise my true story and this is so pictorial of how I create. Thank you for watching and commenting.

It made me smile when you scraped it off in frustration, I've been there so many times I was right there with you. Well done on the final result, lovely.

Glad you enjoyed it!!! I know this happens to so many artists. BUT, the trials are where the magic happens!!! RiGHT!!! Thank you for commenting.

Your art may not be for everyone but I don’t see why they would thumbs down. That’s not nice. I love your art and you! Keep Going! Thank you for being vulnerable ❤

I just don't know how you do it, it looks so simple yet it takes a lot of talent! Thank you for being so generous sharing your process, I really appreciate it! Also, I am right there right now, having lost if not all but a lof of confidence, before an upcoming exhibition, just got totally stuck so seeing this feels really liberating. Thank you again!

You are so welcome! Abstracts are hard but so rewarding in my opinion! Getting stuck means I need to do more layers!!

Why I loved this video is it reminds me of myself 🤣 but I find it gives you such gorgeous textures underneath so like you say just keep going and something beautiful happens in the end ❤

It does! That is too cute!!! I have always loved textures built up. I do not mind painting over things several times!!!

Wow this same thing happened to me several months back Cheryl. I tried so hard to do flowers and realized, no. And I ended up reworking the painting 😂. Into something that I really loved. Kudos to you❤ we always find our way back to our own style. Thanks for the color mixing study! And your finished work is outstanding 🎉🎉🎉

that is SO TRUE. we always find our way to our own style. I firmly believe to do this, we have to go through all these trial and errors!!! Thank you for commenting.

Really cool to watch the bouquet progress! Sad to see it go, but fun to see you moosh it away!!😅 See? You were so upset, but I know this is exactly what we've been talking about! What you developed it into is STUNNING!! It IS so much better to fix what we don't like no matter what it takes. It's the worst feeling to not like it!! PS...When I paint the sides of my canvases or panels - I labor over them! 😅 You make them fun!! I need to loosen up!! ~❤~

I know so many artists go through a process of "where do I go" and if we do not push our process, I find I stay static!! I so much appreciate all the you said. You said it so eloquently!! I found prior to Covid when I had an outside studio, there were collectors that loved very rough canvases and that included the sides. I remember once I had a painting on my easel that was not done, it was rough and the person that wondered into my studio wanted that one JUST as it was, rough, sides a mess and he said the history was important to him. So, sometimes having the sides ... done loosely, might just look perfect to some collectors.

Hi Cheryl, thanks for sharing this fantastic video. Love all of the paintings & to me, the "mistake" was perfect. How do you keep the paint from drying out???? Mine seems to dry in a nano second - could it be too thin? Often, I spray it just to keep it most enough to draw through. Don't let thumbs down get you down -- some people don't know how to move along if something doesn't please them.

Thank you so much!! I keep my brush wet too as well as spray a bit. Another way is to use some medium like a glazing medium to elongate the ability to use the paint. I hope that helps
