Two things: 1) I am in awe of the core strength of these women as they are carried around in awkward positions. I'm impressed with dancers anyway, but holy crap, the entrance and exit really drives that point home. 2) It takes a special kind of talent to make careful choreography look like a believable "mistake," and a talented choreographer to help plan it all properly.
That was my exact thought! The abdominal strength on these women is insane! From the start, they had my attention. Also wondering if each one practiced getting into the most challenging positions to show off their control. Respect 🙌
It was like all of them had characterisation in their mistakes. The elegant one, the over-doer, the two far outsiders where one moves dejectedly back and the other moves too little and can shuffle into place, and so on.
At the beginning, when the girls were still being motionless and carried around by the men, one of them suddenly sat up by herself. I think that might have actually been a genuine mistake.
Not really.... these are choreographed mistakes intentionally designed as much as any other dance. A real mistake might actually mess up timing, positioning, etc
kikauu that’s how it works in this dance 🤷🏻♀️ the dancers would realize they messed up, but the audience would just think it was a choreographed mistake
@@kiaracabrera4455 but the real mistake could really affect the dance itself. since it was all choreographed with the mistakes, the messing up was already planned. if someone were to mess up for real, there is a chance it could throw off the whole choreography. but it really just depends,, it's true that if they made a real mistake the audience would most likely not notice. but like i said it really just depends when and how the real mistake was made :) if that made any sense lol
imagine being told you have to do the waltz, but you have to unlearn the rules of the one you know, mess up horribly on purpose, make it look good, and then be folded like a lawn chair in front of an audience lmao
For some reason this is IMO the funniest rendition of the Mistake Waltz on youtube. In other renditions it’s like they’re trying to be funny by acting out their mistakes like they follow a strict choreography, but in this one it really looks like they are making ‘mistakes’
Because you can tell how talented the dancers are, all aligned and in height and you can feel how fluid the dance would be if it was coordinated, but it's just enough off with no one saying a word that it's hilarious
@@chriserony Because this was an unbelievable cast! All great dancers, and all who totally got it, and who were in the studio with Jerry Robbins. I never got to dancer this as much as I wanted to, but as it usually went at the end of the performance, I would not take my makeup off, just change my clothes and run out front, so I could , along with the audience, leave the theater laughing with a huge smile on my face! These are my ladies and they were fantastic! Elyse Borne, Leslie Roy, Delia Peters, Lourdes Lopez, Alexi and Lisa Hess!
An astonishing performance by these ballerinas: the strength and athleticism in the Preparation and the Exit are at such a high level. Their elegance and artistry to perform the non-comedic elements of the Dance -- the movement of their hands above their heads, sorry that I don't know the dance term, is beautiful. And their comic timing throughout is excellent. Marvelous performance!
When you know that stupid thing so well that you can point out inconsistencies when other people say it. Couldn't be me! Also me, quietly: "The Fitness Gram Pacer Test is a multi-stage aerobic capacity test that gradually gets more difficult as it progresses."
I'm getting the notion that someone came up with the idea while watching dancers rehearse and noticed all the mistakes being made and figured there was something in it. Now that is creative genius.
anyone else here who doesn’t do ballet or dancing or anything like that but just got this in their recommendations for some god forsaken reason i mean i’m not complaining
It must be soo hard to make mistakes that look unintentional. Like, not being sinchronized while dancing and having someone do something entirely different while everyone is doing one thing. I would be very confused xd
Dude when I was younger I acted as a little lion for my old drama schools show of the lion king and I tripped over the smoke machine in the theatre! Still act in that theatre almost every summer. That was ten years ago tho lol I also recently almost fell into the music section that was underneath the stage.
0:52 everyone carrying the girls in a normal within reason way and then this guy looks like he’s about to use her body to try open a gate by using her head as the log they use in beauty and the beast cartoon version 😂
I like how at 3:08 the two girls at the front just stare at each other like: “wait do we have to move our arms up or down?” “I’unno, let’s just continue”
This is truly artisan level of dance. It takes real talent to be able to act as if you keep making mistakes yet stay completely graceful through all of it.
No one: Not a single person; RU-vid: WATCH THIS WALTZ VIDEO UPLOADED 6 YEARS AGO IT WILL BE A HOOT OF A TIME EVEN THO YOU HAVE NEVER EXPRESSED INTERESTS IN WALTZ BEFORE YOUR GONNA WATCH THIS DAMN IT
Probably not that difficult to choreograph, as it's just putting mistakes on top of a normal choreography. The execution to make them funny, however, is the most important part. It really is quite impressive how they made it so funny.
the mistake waltz is amazinggggg and this must be so hard for the dancers who are so used to being so in sync, to just mess up on purpose but look so confused and utterly lost. it beautiful and comedic and anyone can get a kick out of this cx
Makes me think of my brother being a goalie as a kid and the team losing 10-0 because he was picking flowers for Mom. 😅 It’s a nice day, sun is shining, just do your own thing! 😂
Momo's Hoe It really is. 😅 30 years later, and he still brings her forsythia or daffodils or roses when they’re blooming. She’s been sick for about a year, and he always makes sure she has a token from him. He’s still her sunshine boy. ☺️
Well, really, it's just like learning any other choreography. They only look like mistakes because we're accustomed to certain conventions in choreographed ballets.
3:50 tfw you feel like your work is very similar to your idol's work so you change it then notice that it starts getting very similar to another person's work
Not gonna lie, the beginning and end look really fun! I mean, being carried around by handsome men? Yes please! Plus, you gotta admire the talent and effort of these ballerinas, as it's one thing to execute plans perfectly, it's another to make something look bad on purpose, while making it seem unintentional. Also, I just admire the humanity of it. It makes the ballerinas feel more human, as I feel like sometimes we forget that that's what entertainers are. Human. It's nice to see the gentle touches as friendly reminders as to what they're "supposed" to do, as well as the facial expressions of "whoops! Lemme just... Fix that... There. You didn't see anything" it's nice. It's still fake, and played up for laughs, but it feels real and very human, and that's what I like about it. Perfection isn't human, but mistakes are. (:
Okay but can we talk about how strong the guys must’ve been to be able to carry those girls and make them look like they weigh nOthing?? Kudos man. Edit: damn so many likes O.O thank you HAHAHA Edit 2: a lot of people are replying saying that ballerinas aren’t that heavy, but I mean to say that the manner in which they did it made it look more effortless than it had to have been 😂
@@a-bird-lover Yes, I was thinking the same thing, although not just their cores, their entire bodies! My quads and hip flexors would be screaming having to hold my legs out like that.
