Social media is also full of people who would sooner see you fail than succeed. Prime example is when you bought your new truck the amount of comments saying you won’t last running that truck. And people saying you made a Big mistake. They have nothing positive to say.

@@andrewroberts5917 I personally like trucker Tim and his content he does. Some of his ideas are a little silly (window tints been one) but hay the man makes more money than I ever will, his videos are good and he’s probably Brought a lot of new folk into the industry. I always think it’s good to see people succeeding like Tim is and sandy. The world would be a better place if we just supported each other more. Yeah you’re 110% correct there is an awful amount of jealous people out there.

Hi sandy I've been trucking over 20 years and the one thing I love about the job is you are always learning, you never know everything and if someone tells you they do I'll guarantee they are lying. I love your honesty there's not many men who will admit their mistakes.

Great video Sandy. The last lesson is the most important for any business... Get your invoices off to the customer on the day or the week the work is completed and always put a due date for settlement on the invoice. Businesses live or die on cash flow. Well done on your honest appraisal.

That was so interesting Sandy, when you're a grinder, you do trust the people you're grinding for because you're busy grinding, and they show appreciation by paying whats owed! Clearly that makes you very vulnerable and need to protect yourself with a clear paper trail. Thanks for you honesty.

The only reason I have stayed as a single Vehicle O/O. Is basically the fact that I can keep a Handle on my costs and income. I only need a parking space and not a yard. And I have concentrated on Traction only work so no trailer costs or maintenance. ( I occasionally hire a Skeletal trailer for container work ). But the vast majority of my work is unaccompanied trailers in and out of the docks.. Not for everybody but it works for me. Loved this Video because you gave a lot of great information for budding O/O.

Thanks for the honesty Sandy, sure it will keep a few new starters on their toes to not make the same mistakes. Don't worry about the lack of videos, we know you have a ram packed daily schedule keeping the bussiness going and that is number one. Thanks for making the effort and taking the time for the videos that you put out, always a good watch, but keep the bussiness going first and foremost. Staying on top of cashflow is indeed critical for any bussiness: it takes money to make money

Great video, Sandy. I recognise so much of what you talked about in the video. The going out to look for new work while establishing yourself and not relying on work coming to you. The promised work that never materialised in the end. Getting your money in, I always found it was the big name customers that were the slowest to pay you. You didn't raise my biggest complaint, which was undercutting by competitors. Finance. You needed to have a good finance company or a very friendy bank manager behind you and a better accountant..

Really good video sandy cracking insight to the haulage business
@theunemployedtrucker
@theunemployedtrucker 2 месяца назад
One of the biggest problems with getting paid in haulage is the 90 day's you have to wait for your money from the time you start work for other companies, I don't know if it's still the same now but that 90 day's is a hell of a long time to wait for your money and I've worked for several companies that never got their money, for some reason haulage suffers so much from people either hanging out the payment for month's or never paying at all.

Good honest video mate, some people say that without mistakes you’ll never learn and without that process you’ll never grow as a person or business. It’s all a learning curve and sounds like you’ve learned quite a lot in the short time you’ve been trading. Good and honest experience and advice for anyone considering going it alone in transport. I'm often owed in excess of £100k, but i also am a merchant for a fair amount of the goods i haul. If i was owed that amount of money on haulage charges alone, i would be very concerned indeed, and i struggle to understand how you could get to that figure on haulage alone, as 100k must equate to around 8 months work.

Love your channel, Sandy. Are there any Associations in the UK that help & fight for Owner operators & small trucking companies? Here in the states we have "OOIDA". Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association. Which helps ppl with everything from setting up Authority to fighting Government affairs. We also have "NASTC". National Association Small Trucking Companies. They help and offer services such as fuel cards, Parts & service discounts, etc. There doesn't seem to be anyone helping UK or even European Owner operators & small companies

After 26 years I can recognise most of the issues, still think my tax liabilities are the biggest worries over the years and lack of work in a cutthroat curtain area is a close 2nd…. Which together make having your own truck a big mistake!!

They hired a truck driver.. not a bank… do not load without a signature and do not unload without a signature. Failure to pay is now contract fraud in most States over the pond. But a lot of service mechanics and tow trucks just require a credit card or full payment upfront in these times. Good luck.

A different finance rep could have cut you a deal on the interest. It happens plenty when a company buys a piece of equipment and after a few months it turns out to be their wrong equipment and so they want to sell it. Most finance companies will do a deal on the interest especially if you were going on to finance more equipment with them
