I would not say painting everything white is a mistake. It is a good foundation. It gave you a clean bright home to move into when there were many decisions to be made. Now that you have lived with it colors will be easy to choose. No a mistake just a delay.

I am a newbie to your channel and I’m catching up on episodes, and enjoying it very much. Mistakes are how we learn right from wrong. I don’t regret them. I try go forward smarter than yesterday. I don’t know if you still have old furniture piece that gives you trouble with its doors. If so, I learned a hack many years ago that might help your problem. It’s very easy. All you need is wood glue and tooth picks. This fixes holes for door hinges. Take off hardware on door. Stick one end of toothpick into wood glue the depth of your screw hole on furniture piece Stick toothpick into hole that’s too large. Continue exact process until you can no longer put a toothpick in. Let glue dry well. Cut off toothpick flush to edge of door. You can touch up paint or stain or sharpie the color of toothpicks to match your surface. Replace your hinges on doors making a new hole in toothpicks. You don’t have to pre-drill your hole. We just repaired a jamb plate on our front door using this method.

Fail forward they say! Better to get it done rather than wait to do it perfectly.

What a brave thing to tell us about your mistakes. I'm a new subscriber and I'll admit my first impresion was that you completely had it all together!!! It's a relief to learn that you don't, and now I like and respect you even more. I'm hooked. PS You are incredibly well-spoken and pack a LOT into the time you give us. Thanks!!!

Everyone makes mistakes when learning something new. When you evaluate, revise and redo that is where the learning takes place! Great life lesson! Thanks for being open and honest. Have a great weekend! ❤

Your candid openness on mistakes is helpful and refreshing. Too often we look at RU-vidrs and hold ourselves against an edited image or impression of someone’s life without seeing the bloopers. Lol! I have to say I gasped when you said you made a mistake painting the house all white! Lol!! 😂. I’d paint the whole world White Dove but thank you, colors are necessary and do belong in our homes. Thanks again for another helpful video.

The fact that you move past your mistakes is key. You don’t dwell… but take note of a lesson learned. My hubby always says”plan ahead”. But I am impulsive at times!!! I have learned to hold back and I research the details. So I thank you for sharing. We would have never known about these hiccups and challenges had you not shared. Thank you…. Loving these podcasts!

Lisa, Love your channel. What I do as an “unprofessional” regarding choosing color pallets for my home….. pick a fabric or a wallpaper Or possible an art piece that you love the colors. Then pick the colors from that piece. When it comes to art or fabric, these have all been done by professionals! They have been to school and have done tried and true choices for their products. It has worked for me on so many items and I still use that method. I like you love color and getting the right ones with the right shades is always a challenge.

This is what the pros do actually, so go you! It's easier to find a paint colour to match your fabric than the other way around. :)

Lisa: Thanks sooo much for your wonderful channel. I cannot even begin to tell you how many great thrift buying tips, great recipes, garden ideas, house renovation tips, tips on raising kids and animals (my three kids have been adults for many, many years, but your tips on kids work just as well for grandkids!) Thank you for taking the time to regularly record a vlog with such a wealth of solid information and beautiful photography. I literally cannot wait for your next vlog. Yes, we all make mistakes. The most successful people make tons of them. That is why they ultimately become successful!!! Thanx again, Lisa, for sharing with all of us both the successes and mistakes you've experienced. God bless you and your sweet family.

One way to plan out a coordinated palette that uses color is to find a fabric with a few colors in it. Usually they will all play well together. I love green and blue sea glass and used that as my inspiration for the colors in my house.

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. What is ‘perfect’ for me and my likes, won’t be for everyone else and that is okay! Of course, I also think that creative thinkers are always changing and that can be a blessing and a curse! Until we get into a project, we may not even know what our perfection is 😉 Enjoyed hearing hearing your thoughts today, thank you for sharing.

Such good content….I feel it is helpful to know some of the struggles & pitfalls that others experience along their journey because we all know that people experience them, but the final product that is put out into the social media space is that all is perfect. It can be discouraging to only ever see the final product of a project, but not know the process it took to get there.

I kove your blog as a vlog too! Mistakes are just a necessary evil of life, I'm afraid, but I love that you ended on such a positive note, and are proud of your tons of wonderful accomplishments! You are a great inspiration! I know you do most of the work yourself, but I have a caution for anyone working with a contractor. If you REALLY want something a certain way, don't let them talk you out of it because it is easier for them or a little less expensive. Stand your ground. Make it a great day! 😊

I learn best by my mistakes, it’s a good way to learn for me. It also makes me give myself some grace, as opposed to beating myself up about it. One tip on paint colors. Find a color you love, get the paint card then use your favorite color on larger areas and use the other paint colors from the card on surrounding walls. The coordinating is done for you.

I stumbled across your channel a couple of years ago when you were decorating a blue and white Christmas tree (I've collected blue and white for over 50 years and still love it with a passion!) I wasn't looking for any kind of farm life or homesteading or sewing, and I hate sauerkraut except on the occasional hotdog. I love you, Luke, and all your kids so much now and never miss an episode. I am fascinated by your projects even though I'll never have a cow, a barn, or a sewing machine unless I come back as a completely different kind of person! I love the life you are giving your children. I don't really get why you keep having children, but I find myself excited about this new one in your belly! Thank you for all the wonderful content, especially the cooking vlogs! (My first fan letter!)

I love talking about and bringing awareness to the “failing forward” mentality! It’s so needed in our society because we’re told that we should strive for perfection when in reality that isn’t life!

We all change our minds about decor and color. When you bought the house, an all white Interior was the popular style. Now color is becoming more and more popular, along with wallpaper. I think what you did was very practical because you could get on with moving in and getting settled. You will always change and develop your style for the rest of your life , until you find your own style. Then you will know. But it takes a few years of living life 👍😁

Research is good. The time my none builder husband built a retaining wall out of logs. The support posts were not deep enough. Unfortunately we had a storm, by the morning the retaining wall had been demolished and my ground level of the house was full of water and mud, plus l had just come out of hospital. Bed rest and lifting heavy furniture was my next chore. His mistake became my nightmare. Research research and be extremely weary of someone who says trust me l know what l am doing,,when they have never done it before.

Better done than perfect! It functions, or meets the need it was created for. At the end of the day that is all that matters. As far as your porch railing not looking like others? You just keep doing you. You are doing it so well! Thank you for sharing your experiences. 🤗

Thank you, Lisa, for your candor. We all err from time to time; only God is perfect! When I get upset with myself for a mistake -- especially a financial one -- it helps me not to wallow in it if I think of it as "tuition in the school of hard knocks." :-) Onward and upward!

We absolutely love your sourdough bagel recipe. I’ve made it many times and it always turns out. We gave a couple away to our pastors who came over the other day. They couldn’t believe I made them. Haha! I want to make sauerkraut too, but I am sooo not confident in this. I tried it one time and ended up throwing it out before eating it.
