as soon as i saw the colors on the truck i knew its was an old Bell truck, looks like it used to be what we called a digger-derrick truck, which used to dig holes and set telephone poles. it probably had a crane arm on it with a hydraulic auger and jaws to hold onto the pole, which was controlled from that seat behind the cab.👍

Paul, You need to make a spring loaded tow bar. A pipe that slides in a pipe with a couple springs set to slow the compression. A hitch on one end and chain to the frame on the towed vehicle. The towed vehicle can maneuver side to side.

Towed home a 56 international s120 on 42 inch super swampers that hadn't been moved in 15 years smoked a 12 volt air compressor and a gas station compressor trying to air up the tires and with no power steering and only the engine for brakes 20 was about top speed good times good times

I don't know about towing with a strap, but with a chain, run the chain through a long piece of pipe and when the tow vehicle slows down the chain will keep the towed vehicle from hitting the tow vehicle from hitting the tow. But if course this wouldn't make a video of you damaging a vehicle then having to repair it

My thoughts exactly. That's what we used to do. And you can't really make those pipes straight again after using them a time or two. ⛓🎺Couldn't find a pipe, so I used a "coronet".

However, using a pipe would mean you're either going to bend the pipe with that much weight behind it or you're going to turn the pipe into a lance. Seems like if He had just had the transmission in third or fourth and kept the clutch in he could quickly engage it if he needed to slow. I also would never have taken my hand off that emergency brake the whole time.

And to be quite honest I would have just had it towed because: 1) Towing it that way is illegal. 2) You put people's lives at risk. Something could have gone wrong and you could have pushed him into an intersection or pulled him off the road if things went awry with the big truck. 3) Much better time management. 4) Would have avoided having to do the repair which saves time and money. I bet that repair is going to cost WAY MORE then what a tow bill would have been... It's the same concept behind "You only drive with an unsecured load once". IDK, I just don't like unnecessary damage and expense.

@@randallsmerna384 The towing vehicle was going too fast. Yes, a decent towbar would be a good idea, but maybe a bigger towing vehicle too. Paul must be a very good driver though.

Hey Randall .. ‘momentum’ will keep going for a good bit … next time start slowing 1/4mile out when pulling a truck w no brakes .. I’ve definitely been there and done that more times than I care to remember .. but - lesson learned the hard way are the ones that stick with you the longest .. lol … Paul - wonder why it wouldn’t. ‘Roll off’ and spin the motor over to crank it .. done that too… those old internationals are solid tanks .. it will drive thru most anything within reason .. keep the videos coming and I’ll keep watching

Gotta Love the Tacoma! I use my 05 Tacoma to pull full size ford trucks and broncos from Bagdad AZor Phoenix to Tucson AZ many times.... never misses a beat. Fun Stuff!

Everyone is ragging on Randall for stopping to quickly but go back and watch Paul. He's looking everywhere except forward. I get you checking the mirror from time to time, but just before Randall started slowing Paul looked at the side mirror, glanced out front, down to the key, then to the camera, then out front to see Randall had started slowing. That's on Paul.

Just finished saying the same thing elsewhere. I would have kept tranny in third or fourth with the clutch in so that I could gently engage the clutch to slow. Also, I would never have taken my hand off the e-brake nor my eyes off the road.

Run a chain through a pipe and you’ll have a solid tow bar that you can keep your distance and still have ability to turn.

Over 7 months waiting on the smallest off road vehicle to be finished. I’d hope Ed gets his baby back soon. Even if you have to skip making videos about it to get it done for him. It is hard when all these people keep trying to spoil the surprise. Maybe this was pre recoded prior to you getting the nugget. Again I’m not harping I just want Ed to enjoy it while he can, as much as he can.

yeah if you watched one of the videos ed said something about wanting it this week. The videos should be trailing 1-2 weeks behind. That's how its always been. Creating great videos isn't easy takes a lot of edit time.

8' section of 2 3/8 oilfield pipe would solve all those types of problems.just keep the tow strap tight with just a lil slack so the pipe stays out of the oil pan.

Friendly help/suggestion here...put a dissolve between the audio cuts to take out all the pops in the audio. It cleans it up nice. Hope ya find this helpful not trying to be hurtful. just passing along an industry trick of the trade.

Looks almost just like my dad's old service truck. Except his had a big ugly orange knuckle crane behind the cab. And his had the dt466. He tried for years to blow that slow old engine but she's still running around to this day, Same engine. Got a big dent on the driver side cab from were then guy after may dad smashed the crane into itself. That was a incredible truck, was built to set electric poles but it made a better service truck for on site equipment repair. He would regularly Baja his way to broken dozers and say "well! We're not leaving tell its fixed. Because it's the only thing that will pull us back out."

Those old international trucks are tough trucks. Those v8 gas engines are great. I had an early 80s that size. Was a mechanic truck. Not fast but very reliable a real gas hog.

If a radiator loss is the worst thing to happen on one of those missions your doing good.this reminds me of this time when I was about 14 my buddy and his dad stopped while I was cutting grass to ask if I wanted to go with them to get a tractor but I had chores so I couldn't .as they left I wondered how they would haul it since they had no truck,no trailer,just a dodge K car well bout a half hour later I hear tirs squaling my buddy hollering and his dad Flys by at about 40 dragging him on that tractor with a chain and tractor is sideways ,he had ran over the chain it got caught on the deck and yanked him side ways .they made it home but I don't think he talked this dad for a week.

Its a manual? you could have pulled it along in third with the ignition on and its would have started right up, then the yota could have been towed to be the brakes.
