Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching. Today, we have the opportunity to either save or destroy in irreplaceable piece of history!!! We are originally called to unload a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, T-bird, to some,, off of a flatbed trailer. While interesting because it was a 1957 T-bird, the call was fairly common, to use our rollback to unload a vehicle off a flatbed trailer and set it on the ground or in a garage. We do it frequently. However, as many calls do, this turned out to be more than the simple task we first thought. Upon our arrival we find a completely different situation. This all original, one owner, T-Bird with the original window sticker and owner's manual, has been driven off into the open center of a specialty car hauling trailer!!! Now, this is a TOTALLY different job from what we were originally called for, but adapt and overcome, as they say. Are we up to the task of saving this historical car from irreparable damage??? Let's hope so.....
I'm "catching up" on some of my videos that I've been holding while working on the ECJV Eaton Cummins project. Thanks for you patience! I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

I agree with Herb and others. True it was the truck driver's load, but also true you were specifically hired to remove the load from the flatbed with the load sustaining no or as little unavoidable damage as possible. The truck driver was a clear hinderance to your task. Perhaps the operation should have been halted for the purpose of striking an agreement that one person and one person only directs the offloading. Absent such an agreement, drive on to the next job. Harsh yes but safe for you and your company in my view.

Looking real close, looks like that old bird had more than a fair share of prior body work. Hope that shop is up to doing a real restoration. The problem with barn finds is they were usually put in the barn for a reason, either because the owner knew it would go up in value or because it was more trouble than it was worth. My uncle had a 54 or 55 that fit into the second category. He parked it in the back yard with a tarp over it. I always wanted to buy the car as a teen but he always said it was not for sale. When I got out of the Air Force I went to my grandmother's house fully planning on purchasing the car. It was gone!! Turns out while my uncle was away on a vacation, a scrap car guy knocked on the door and offered to haul away the old car (under the tarp) in the back yard for her. At that point it had been sitting for at least 8 years. He only charged her a few bucks to haul it away. Bet he was laughing the entire time.

If a car is at a salvage auction, it's just damage on top of what the vehicle already had 😉 At a salvage auction, they are more concerned about quickly moving the auction items around than doing further damage. At a dealer auction, if it doesn't start with a jump pack, it's getting forked. At Meacham, it would be a "roller", meaning that the floor crew would be pushing it across the auction floor.

It has never ceased to amaze me the number of people who try to haul cars because of the money to be made doing so but have no clue how or what they are doing. If also is amazing how many people will pay an enormous amount of money for a car and don't want to pay the money to get it moved. This is a great example of you get what you pay for. I have seen stuff like this in the past and when the transport driver destroyed the vehicle they didn't have enough insurance to cover the cost of the air in the tires yet alone cover the damage. This car should not have ever been put on this trailer.

the one thing i love about the way you work is you stop and take a good look at the ways to tackle the problem and fully open to suggestions, rather than showing up and immediately being set on a way to solve it that could damage property. great work!!!

I think that hydraulic trolley jacks or bottle jacks are so underated ,and blocks of wood and flat board ,but you were close I suppose? Ron did I hear you say"that's a cheap cable ? 😎😎😎😎, don't normally associate you and cheap 😃😃 Too many people giving instructions at the end ,and I was saying "shut that door !and where's the emergency block of wood if it ran away 😊

Ron, as a Ford guy I have to say those old Tbirds are body on frame construction with pretty thick steel. You'd have no problems picking them up with frame hooks with a pad between it and the bumper.. And as a body/paint guy, I'd say that thing was resprayed once a long time ago, it wouldn't be that nice unless it was kept inside in a climate controlled room if it was original. If it was 100% original, running the value would be ~$200-300k depending on options.. with an auto probably the lower end (people want a manual) with a respray but otherwise original and numbers matching.. $80-120k max at auction on a good day.

What would a '57 bring with almost perfect original body panels. I say almost perfect because it's been inside( on concrete floor) since 1965 and has not been driven since. 312 V8 manual trans. It was painted at least twice when it was on the road. Never driven in the winter. Around 50,000 original miles.

I used to have this Matchbox with Burgundy paint. They are most certainly beautiful cars. That headlight is a crying shame, but it's gorgeous anyway. I'd love to see the restoration. Great job everybody! I bounced my chin off the coffee table a couple of times trying to see the front right wheel and held my breath the last half of the video. I actually got a chill on the exhale when she hit the floor. LOL Thanks for the invigorating video & stay safe out there!

I had a similar call. Ran the incident the same way. But I had to run it with a 40-ton straight stick. I didn't have rotator until the final months of my 10 year heavy tow operator career. And to get it off the trailer still used my heavy. Parked a forklift at the back of the bay as a redirect to winch it off the trailer.

Whoever hired the transport ordered the wrong truck. There are so many good ways to transport a car cross-country, there's no reason to hire a guy with the wrong equipment for the job. It may have been cheaper, but with the response to fix the problems in the end, I'm sure that savings quickly evaporated.

Awesome!! I was glued to the screen--my dumpster cleaning work went on hold, I had to see this thru.. I have to let my mom know to watch this, she always loved T-Birds. It sure is a beautiful car. I love seeing the different jobs when you have them. I also love seeing the scenery when you drive too, I don't get to travel much anymore so that is my road trips. Thanks for the many different sights and jobs you keep me entertained with and they are all so enjoyable. I love the snow videos although I realize the are not the best and the safest for you and your crew. I appreciate the dedication all of you have for your work, keep it up and keep the videos coming for this 71 year old lady!! 😎😎🚓🚓⛑⛑

The bumpers on old Fords are pretty stout. Most came with bumper jacks for tire changing. Those "rivets" in the rear bumper are actually the bolts that hold the bumper to the bumper brackets which then bolt directly to the frame. The bumpers are made out of some heavy steel. I had a guy in a parking lot back his 90's something Mazda into my '62 Ford Falcon. the bumper on his Mazda was bent and twisted....along with fender/left rear quarter damage. I was able to buff off the blue paint and my bumper wasn't damaged at all. Old cars are TOUGH!

Although I am not that old, but remember on my early cars in the 70’s that bumper jacks were the standard, not the modern scissor jacks used under sides of body.

My best friend's mother had a '57 T-bird like that except it was turquoise. It was a gorgeous car and we spent a lot of Saturday nights cruising in that car. Gas was about a quarter a gallon back then and we all pitched in for gas. You'd be surprised how many we packed in that car.

I was in a restaurant one Sunday afternoon when a beautiful the most beautiful T-bird pulled into the parking lot and parked right on the other side of the window beside me ...... beautiful turquoise with spotless white interior ..... with the requisite white walls of course. The another T-bird pulled in, then another and another and another and ....... It was a T-bird club headed for a rally down the road. Went out and chatted and they invited us to meet them at the rally ..... what a sight to be hold when we got there ..... row after row of T-birds. Heaven on wheels.

57 T Bird story. A man here in Wichita bought a 55 Bird when they first came out. Loved it but traded for a 56. Then came the 57s. Had to have one. So what do you do? He gave his wife the 56 and bought TWO 57s. One went into the garage, drained all the fluids, removed the tires and wheels and prepared it for long term storage. The 2nd one he drove, not as a daily driver, but regularly. All original excluding maintenance items. In 1967 he sold it, getting roughly what he had paid for all 4 of the T Birds. And pulled the 2nd 57 out, 47 mile on the odometer and started driving it. He still had it, still all original, in 1981. Lost contact after that.
