It’s MiSTer FPGA NEWS AND UPDATES time! Because today we are going to be taking a look at some of the biggest MiSTer FPGA cores that are not yet finished for one reason or another including the Sharp X68000 FPGA core, the NEC PC98 FPGA core, the MiSTer FPGA Atari Jaguar core and the MiSTer FPGA Sega 32x core! Because there is a lot of "pending" fun to be had on MiSTer FPGA that isnt the MiSter FPGA Sega Saturn core or MiSTer FPGA N64 core!

I’m glad you’re backed by Porkchop decent dude as far as I’m concerned. I love to see these Japanese machines like the sharp & the NEC pc working. I have a friend with a couple X68000 machines but they are too much out of my budget so I’m really glad to be able to have some of the experience here on MiSTer

I never owned a jaguar, but a best friend of mine had one& CD and simultaneously another friend had the 3DO so I got to experience both in their prime at the time, I was still rocking the Sega Genesis, but I had the Sega channel service

I was lucky and received a X68k XVI around 18 Month ago (for a good price) from my wife to my Birthday. (re-capped, RAM Upgrade, SCSI2SD, Pico PSU, all made by probably the most able person in whole germany) I use it more often the the PC98, mostly because the controller situation on the PC98. Very nice video, thank you!

It was an emergency release when the war broke out, to get it into the public repo. There are a few open issues and despite it being really close in a lot of ways, it's not quite buttoned up. It's AMAZING the dev was able to do what he did. Thankfully, work continues on the chips thanks to Saturn and a few of us take small fixes here and there occasionally.

I wish there was a place MiSTer users could band together and express where their interest lies en masse. Ultimately, putting their money where their mouths are. I would love to help financially support any dev that want to finish the X68000 core.

These computer cores are what I have been crossing my fingers for most. MSX, PC-98, X68k, etc. Tons of gaming history in these and it'd be really great to play them this way. Even better if they get ported to Analogue Pocket (which is entirely because that's what I have; no Mister) even though that'll almost certainly require the dock with a keyboard

@@EricFraga I actually don't have a mister - Just an Analogue Pocket D: No MSX core there yet. Not that normal pocket usage is especially conducive to an MSX I'm sure, but it would still be (probably) nice on a dock with a wireless keyboard

I kind of touched luicky with the X68000 core in that most of th games I was interested in worked right off the bat (Valis II notwithstanding, although that just took a bit of SRAM fiddling). It wasn't until PCN's stream the other day that it became clear just how unfinished it currently is. Not being able to use it with analogue video output is a bit naff too. As for dream cores, I'd love to see an FM Towns core to go along with the X68000.

Another unfinished and abandoned core is the Dragon 32/64 (part of the Tandy Color Computer 2 core). I’ve heard from people having had a look at it say it’s a mess, and could benefit from a start from scratch. The Tandy CoCo 3 core is however still being worked on. That’s my wish for 2024, a working Dragon core with Dragondos disk support.

I didn't know that there was a PC98 or Jaguar Core that worked at all. I thought the PC88 core was still unfinished too, at least I have trouble running some games.

Looks like puu-san is currently working on FM Towns, I hope he comes back and improves the X68000 and PC-98 too. I offered to donate and maybe do some translations for him (didn't ask him to do anything in return), but never got a response. But if he prefers to work on them alone, I'll respect his decision.

I want the Sharp x68000 core so bad, just for the music alone. It's probably the best midi system of all time and to play the games to the tracks ive been listening to for years would be great. It's also SO far out of the budget to buy and a nightmare to get in working condition now.

It would be awesome to have a 3DO and Virtual Boy core. I can understand that it would be hard to find someone willing to develop these considering how both systems only have few great titles that most people would possibly want to play.

is 32X technically unfinished because we have no way to currently run SEGA MEGA CD 32X games. I don't know if you just combine all cores going forward. MEGA CD and 32X were technically add-ons

Anyone know if the X68000 core could run reliably plugged into a 20l5? I tried with the existing core but had some ghosting and trails on the graphics. Not sure if it's cause the core or if the 20l5 can't handle the refresh rate

@@VideoGameEsoterica Sky Shark is a good game, highly recommended! MAME executes it very well. I got to play it in Honduras in arcades, it took a long time but I learned to play it with a single credit. As time went by I played it again on an emulator, but I always hoped during the 90s that it would appear on SNES or Playstation. It is one of the many games that made me purchase MiSTer FPGA. I hope it appears for MiSTer soon. Realizing that it never appeared for home consoles, I tried to buy the board, something impossible to afford financially at that time.

CD-i isnt even fully emulated yet when it comes to software that uses the Digital Video Card. Not sure how that will translate over to the FPGA side of things if anyone wants to get into the weeds on the CD-i on MiSTer

CDI should have no issues working on MiSTer. Issue is you need to find someone who wants to work on it

It’s def not that MiSTer can’t run them. It’s just that the work needs to be finished. Nothing here that needs more horsepower

Oh man, is it at $2500 now for an X68k? I own two. One XVI with Xcelllent30 daughter board for 030 support and XVI Redzone compact. The compacts are a nightmare because Sharp simplified the board designs. Leaky caps destroys the whole system rather than an individual, modular board which can be replaced. Add in the CRT, midi modules, and it's amazing system but not worth the cost or hassle. Zuiki, MiSTer or various emulation seems fine enough and no one has to worry about a rare 5.25 floppy growing mold.

@@VideoGameEsoterica Haha, at one time I had four or five X68k units. Not all XVI but even the basic machines are quality now thanks to upgrades and drive replacements from the fan community. I passed along a couple units for free but anymore don't know if I'd be doing you any favors by sending a ticking time bomb.

You know, I kind of want a 3DO and Jaguar core for completeness sake, but I am kind of drawing a blank on any exclusives on there that are worth playing. On the Jaguar Rayman is better on the Playstation and Saturn, Tempest 2000 is on the Saturn, and Pitfall the Mayan Adventure is pretty much identical to the Genesis version. There's an exclusive Bubsy game on the Jaguar but I don't think anyone actually likes it. On the 3DO side it's similar; most of the exclusive games that are actually any good got decent ports on other systems. The only game I can think of that I would really want a 3DO port for is Out of this World, because I do think that's the definitive version of that game, but the Sega CD version of it is competent enough. I second the Sharpx68000. I think that would be the highest bang-for-buck in regards to "fun to effort" ratio of the remaining cores.

@@VideoGameEsoterica AVP yes, though I was not overly impressed with Killing Time, though for the latter the only version I've played is the port to PC that I think came a bit later. Still, I can't really blame the devs for not focusing on the Jag or 3DO. There's just not a ton of gems on those systems, like there is with the current cores.

How come nobody can find an alternative to DE10 Nano, even after 7 years? Are we going to use the same chip for 15 years? It's a problem for some cores, I.e. there's not enough logic elements for the AO486 core to have a floating point unit.

I was just tring to work thru an issue I was having with NBA Jam TE for 32X. I cant get it to open from Wizzo Favorites via MGL, but its opening and running fine if open the core then open the game. I thought the 32X core was complete.. Doh. Outside of the noted, I haven't noticed anything to suggest it wasn't complete. As you said, Id gladly take Saturn over 32X. Id LOVE to see a Laser Active core. My Uncle had one growing up. I know its a tiny library and I don't even think there is an emulator for it... So very doubtful... **EDIT** Apparently there was an update to the 32X core today...

@@VideoGameEsoterica Yupper! I was gonna report my issues with WWF Raw, but its a known issue. Then I noticed Sorlig released an update. I didn't check the release notes. I already loaded it, hoping it may fix my WWF issue, but no luck.
