Mister Miracle Special - a Jack Kirby love letter by Steve Rude, Mark Evanier, and Mike Royer 

I want to take this time to thank you guys for the wonderful content. It has helped me go through some rough times lately. 👍😀

This was such a refreshing diversion from the aggressive blandness of the New Universe, Nite Owl being beaten to death by a mob of delinquents in Watchmen and the Thomas/Mandrake "serious" dark version of Shazam that were on the stands at the same time. It was also an anomaly in that it was a tribute before the virtual genre of comics we now have that are all homages to older artists and other eras.

I love Steve Rude but his work outside of Nexus is all over the place. I took everything I could find and had a beautiful custom bound omnibus done with this very Mister Miracle Special included! Also: Space Ghost, Johnny Quest, Legends of the DCU, Teen Titans Spotlight, Nexus/Magnus Robot Fighter, The Moth, World’s Finest, and one of the first things he ever did serialized in an old anthology called Vanguard Illustrated. Long live The Dude!

Usually I buy the comics after I’ve seen them reviewed on CK, but this is one of the few times where I already it! Love this special.

Steve literally can draw in so many styles. This is TALENT. He's basically eclipsed every other artist including himself. I'm here for the ride and loving it.

You 3 are the trio's tag-champs of the comics industry.

This was one of my favorite comics as a kid. My older brother bought for me and I really loved it. It was basically my introduction to Mr. Miracle and it was a great introduction. I mean, you read it and you come away knowing just who and what Scott Free is. I loved the part where Darkseid declares that he laughs at the "cosmic comedy." One of my favorite Darkseid lines. I sorta didn't like Kalibak going down to Barda via electrocution, because I felt like it was sort of jobbing Kalibak out, when initially, he was a guy that Orion could only really beat by channeling his inner monster. But then again, it was a way of putting over Barda and retaining Kalibak's credibility. I just wasn't convinced that Kalibak couldn't handle getting electrocuted. But maybe I was unfair. It was an intense fight and that was a pretty powerful panel.

Love your comment at the end--weirdly enough, this past weekend, I did find this in a dollar box and had completely forgotten about it having been published. I also remember loving it back in the day, so of course, I had to pick it up. I ended up reading it (and re-loving it) on my front porch during 4th of July. Felt like a kid (or mid-teen) again!

There’s something that reminds me of the Kevin McGuire JLA in the art…and I don’t think it was just the ad.

Odd that you reviewed this today. I just read my copy last night for the first time since I bought it new. It's a fun read.

It's super weird to find this video after spending the last week digging into Mister Miracle and the fourth world

your picking them to cover recently. I was so sad there was never a continuing series like this. After jack's mister miracle this is the definitive for me, the fun is leaping off the page.

You know, as you guys flipped through this issue, something about the book became increasingly familiar to me. And throughout the duration of the vid, I was absolutely fixated on figuring out what it was this book reminded me of when it finally hit me. Steve Rude's spin on Mister Miracle is totally the groundwork for his later character The Moth! I wonder if getting denyed the right to work on a Miracle series really got stuck in his craw for years and eventually pushed him to create the moth.

Cool episode. I gotta ask if we will be getting any more shoot interviews or have you moved on from that ?

Mr.Miracle is a character that seems to have never been clearly defined.
