I believe that Mister Rogers was what Christ would have been like had he lived in the modern age. . . he channeled all that was good in the world and touched so many lives in a positive way-mine included.
That quote at the end finally brought me to tears. You know, once in elementary school, all the classes were gathered in the auditorium to see the annual talent show. A boy was on stage playing this beautiful piece on the piano and I shut my eyes to enjoy it better. When I opened them all the kids sitting in front and around me were turned to look at me with these confused and judging stares. For some reason that really hurt and shook me up so much so that I still recall it with disdain from time to time. I think I finally heard the words that the younger me needed to hear that would have made me feel not so ostracized in that moment.
+StarlitLilies YES, that last quote is what got me too! It is so true! I remember being in Elementary school, I always felt ostracized for my love of music. Little did I know, years later I'd take those moments of deep love for music to become musician.
Yes... You have a great point. I strongly agree with you and I'm so so sorry you had to deal with intellectual inferiors such as your classmates. I too agree we must take a period of silence after we hear beautiful music...
+StarlitLilies Growing up it's very easy to let fear of judgment from our peers alter how genuine we allow ourselves to be. I know that I did. Many people never regain that authenticity, but that won't stop me from trying.
That's why I appreciate people who understand the emotions music can bring. There's so many songs that make me tear up-some from their beauty, some from nostalgia, and some from the stories they tell. Music is a beautiful thing, and without it, we wouldn't be the humans we are.
"After you've heard someone play beautiful music, sometimes you just want to have a quiet time to remember it. Let's just sit and think about what we've heard." *Starts bawling uncontrollably
I don't care what anyone thinks. This was the most influential person in my life, and still is. This remix is amazing. Call me a nerd, I don't care. The truth and beauty in this brought tears to my eyes. :55, 1:17, 1:45... well, it all fits. Whoever did this, did a great job. Please open your mind and your heart, and indulge your child-like, music loving, truth loving self.
Mr. Rogers was actually a Presbyterian minister. He was able to communicate his messages to young people without the pretext of religion or good vs. bad. He spoke to children in a language they understood for the sole purpose of their well-being. I'm not a religious person any more, but I have _always_ been able to appreciate the gift Mr. Rogers gave to all of us. I'm old enough to remember watching his shows when they were new. I remember enjoying them a great deal, but it wasn't until I watched a few of his shows in my 20's that I was able to fully appreciate what he was saying, what I held witness to as a young person, and how valuable his lessons were to me then and now, even as I approach my 60th birthday.
I'm 27, (25 at the time of your comment) and Mr. Rogers was a large part of my childhood too. He always taught me to be curious, creative, honest, and to be a good neighbor.
Why am I crying? Oh Mr. Rodgers I miss you so much. Your show was my getaway from the fights between my Mother and my Bipolar father. You calmed me down. You taught me that I'm not alone and that I'm important in this cruel world. I love you. Youre my angel
His show was just good television, along with Sesame Street pre Elmo, 3-2-1 Contact, The Electric Company. Then we see Daniel Tigers Neighborhood... not really honoring that legacy of the World of Make believe.
As an adult, growing bitter and frustrated with the world, coming back to Mr. Roger's neighborhood is so...straightening and strengthening for me. My jaw drops at wisdom that child me saw and took as obvious fact. He reminds me what life is, that it's okay to be, and just...I wish we had him now. We could use him ❤ I...we...to the reminders. We need to remember. So we can be what he showed us ❤
I don't know why, but 'there's so much in this world we can learn, no matter how young or how old we are' caught me right in the feels. Between countless videos, articles and photos of people doing things you never even thought of and mastering them, I am overwhelmed by the things both inside and outside we can do, learn and become. Mr. Rogers was a lovely island in the middle of insanity and becoming an adult has helped me understand why there are so few people like him. A one-of-a-kind, glorious soul.
Wow. The end was the kicker. I'm a 40 year old man now, but Mr. Rodgers was one of my best friends when I was a very sick little boy. No matter how bad I felt, he was always the kind voice of encouragement I needed to get through another day stuck in bed, unable to go to school or play outside with the other kids my age. I will carry the gentleness and love he showed me for the rest of my life, & I hope that the values I learned from him will live on in my son, & be passed from generation to generation. These remixes are kinda silly, but sweetly done. A very nice homage to, in my opinion, one of the greatest men of our time. Still a lot we can all learn from him. Thank you Fred Rodgers, & thank you P.B.S. for keeping his spirit alive. -R
A lot of people ask why are we crying ? Remember jaw breakers ? you sucked on them to get to the soft candy center. I think we are a lot like them. The center is who we are, pure unconditional beings (love). Then we have experiences that cause layers to build. Mad, sad, angry, hurt, pain etc. Mr. Rogers just opens a hole up, and exposes who we really are. Unconditional people, who at our candy core really only want the best for everyone. To give and receive unconditionally. He turns us inside out. Deep down we are all the same :)
"Are you discovering the truth about you? That's what we do as we keep growing in life. I'm still discovering the truth about me." The sentiment blows me away. It seems like everyone I know around me is trying to race to some sort of an end where they think they will finally have everything figured out cleanly and nicely. But that line makes me feel like that ending not only doesn't happen, but that it shouldn't happen anyway. Slow down, keep learning about yourself. Mr. Rogers was incredible.
this man will forever hold a spot in my heart for his TRUE love for child entertainment and learning. it was a perfect mix. he was an amazing man throughout his whole life.
The harmony in his voice is what gets me everytime. It's just so beautiful and soothing. I honestly haven't cried this much in ages. Live long and prosper Mister R.
This really brings joyful tears to my eyes. Mr. Rogers, along with other PBS programs have helped positively cultivate my ethos. I'm glad that someone produced this rendition, and that others have been similarly influenced the way I am grateful to be
Even now as an adult, I still find him fascinating! It’s like the kid in me comes out to discover new things again, or things I’ve forgotten, or need reminding of. He’s the best 🥰
What a kind man. Such a gentle, loving presence to generations of children. He was so steadfast and strong in his truth; he inspired both children and adults, and made us better people. I'm sorry he's gone now. Thanks for creating this - it's lovely.
Every time I see Mr Rogers I feel like I'm seeing family. I'm lucky to have grown up watching such an outstanding man teaching us all to be better people.
Gonna just say thanks to Mr Rogers, I learned to not talk down to children. It's amazing how much the develop when people take their thoughts and feelings seriously.
Growing up in Chicago as kid, I remember coming home and watching Mr. Roger. It wasn't until older that I learned they were repeats, but that didn't take anything away from the magic and wonder he brought or how he embraced everyone and gave a sense of not only awe of this world but of the opportunities that awaited you. For a young black kid from a meager economic household, that was powerful influencing. White or black, Mr. Rogers taught above all, we're human with the same magic potential.
+PBS Digital Studios There needs to be more of these. The two remixes for Mr Rogers and the one for Bob Ross are some of the most amazingly beautiful pieces of music imaginable. I can't help but get choked up when I hear them.
Just discovered these mixes today and I'm thankfull. 'There's so much in this world we can learn. No matter how young or how old we are. We can sing together.' Right in the tearbags.
I'm sitting here sobbing. Watching Mister Rogers was something my dad and I used to do together, so watching these makes me miss both my dad, and Mr Rogers.
At least once a day, I think of this man and the impact he has had on my life. He was one of the few adults that said it was okay for me to be confused about my emotions, that i'm always still growing as a person, and that i was liked just the way I am. If I ever end up half as wonderful as he is, I would consider my life a success
Thank you PBS studios for this wonderful piece. Mr. Rogers was such a good person and such a positive influence to all, including me. I think he would have loved this song.
WOW the lesson at 3:15 - 3:25 made my jaw drop. Lets just have quiet time and reflect on the music for a while. Just your inner thoughts. i know the reason shit is so sideways in the world is bc ppl dont listen to themselvs in silence. they drown it out by alawys having the TV on, smrtphone in hand, on a tablet, checking laptop emails, or listening to muisc on ipod. People today dont even hear their inner voice talking, and if they did they wouldnt know what to do with it. This video has years upon years of widsom and advice that only an older person can truely give. Think about THIS This man was born 1 year before the Great Depression. He lived through the fucking DUST BOWL. he went through WW2, the 50's the whole counter culture 60's. and then disco. No wonder this an and others from this generation were truely some of our greatest men and women. Remarkable.
I absolutely love this!! Mr Rodgers was such a wonderful person, in what he said, and taught, and the way he lived. Great, great, great truths included!!!
My mom told me I liked Mr. Rogers when I was little. I've looked at some stuff with him in it and I like it, I wish I could remember from when I was little. Makes me smile now listening to this
I am saddened by the realization that Mister Rogers left the neighborhood 1 year after I was born. But at any case, I do feel like I am actually with Mister Rogers whenever I watch one of his episodes.
i actually have a big shirt i found (''stupidly'' in the guy's section at Wal-mart along with other shirts that are supposedly for.. ''men!'' *anger mark*, and it cleverly says, "it's all good in the hood." i love it to this day! *sniffle* its really a cute shirt, i just, had to get it, he taught me how crayons where made... the huge chunky ones.. and they weren't crayola tho. XD
+RoseBudpony1 I also have a Mister Rogers shirt that says "It's all good in the hood", it was gray and it had a gold frame with a picture of Mister Rogers putting on his sneakers.
The whole song really struck me, but that last line.. Mr. Rogers was right. Everyone that reads this, let's take a moment, together, in silence, to reflect on all of the lessons in life we've learned so far, and what we will learn tomorrow.
This one seemed kind of silly compared to the last one, and then he hit us with "Did you talk to the people you love last night?" and it hit like an emotional brick.
I think kids today are so rotten and this world so cold because they dont have a man like this anymore. I think this guy had much more of an impact on our culture than we ever realized.
Are you discovering the truth about you ? that's what we do as we keep on growing in life.are you discovering the truth about you ? I'm still discovering the truth about me.
I am glad you feel that way. I grew up watching this show and loved this guy. My mom couldnt stand me watching the show because she didnt like it. It was a really slow paced show and thats why I liked it as a child. So I watched it a lot. It was relaxing and I loved old people so I loved this show hahaha. :)
@@austinhuber3131 he was, and he was also ridiculed by conservative media as "patient zero" for participation trophy culture because of his ethos that all people have value. Fred Rogers had a very complex relationship with politics, being both a conservative in many regards (kind of inescapable, being a man of the cloth and all that) and also being quite liberally minded in others (arguing before Congress for federal funding for the arts, being the student of a very new academic branch of early childhood education, challenging the exercise of copyright law over personal use broadcast recording). This coupled with how rarely he spoke about his own politics in his writings or in interviews gives us effectively only one truth - Fred McFeely Rogers acted in good faith with the policies he felt were best for people, much as any decent person does.
This show is going to be one of the key shows I use to educate and entertain my goddaughter. She is already being raised on PBS shows at home (which is awesome) so she'll hopefully appreciate these songs/videos when she gets older. Keep up the good work.
No. He DID attend a specialized college for Child Psychology but he eventually only got degrees in music composition and theology (as he was a Presbyterian minister). You could say he did have some experience, but no he was never a psychologist.
I have said this before, yet it remains so unarguably true that I think it bears repetition: the very fact that this wonderful man was allowed to die is the best argument anyone shall ever craft against the existence of a just and loving god.
***** No it is a very stupid & facile argument actually. I'm not religious but to assume that you understand what's "just & loving" is laughable. As a child did you understand what was best for you?
God what happened to the LeVar Burton's Fred Rogers and Bob Ross's... great people who inspired the imagination of young children around the world. now a days everyone's worried about what Kaley Jenner's baby's name is.. who the hell cares! and why is that on a news station
"The Truth is inside of us. And it's wonderful when we have the courage to tell it. Are you discovering the truth about you? That's what we do as we keep on growing in life. Are you discovering the truth about you? I'm still discovering the truth about me." These statements are so devastatingly powerful; especially in the context of Fred Roger's honest integrity and earnest, straightforward delivery. Also, "When people are honest with each other they are able to do all kinds of fine things." Is just too cute and again, so true.
