Mister Rogers remixed by John D. Boswell for PBS Digital Studios.
MP3 version now available! to.pbs.org/pbsremixed
(Headphones highly recommended!)
When we discovered video mash-up artist John D. Boswell, aka melodysheep, on RU-vid, we immediately wanted to work together. Turns out that he is a huge Mister Rogers Neighborhood fan, and was thrilled at the chance to pay tribute to one of our heroes. Both PBS and the Fred Rogers Company hope you like John's celebration of Fred Rogers' message.
This is the first in a series of PBS icons remixed.
Many thanks to the folks at the Fred Rogers Company for their support.

I thought that about Bill Cosby at one time..If Fred ever gets taken down it's surely over…I'm surprised someone hasn't "come forward" to date in this time of anything for attention,a book & the talk show circuit & making money at someone else's expense..if it happens I hope it's after I'm gone.

My aunt has three sons who were all really big fans of Mr. Rogers when they were younger. My aunt couldn't take them to see him because they are severely autistic. She wrote to him explaining her situation. When Mr. Rogers came to their area, he visited their house, and put on a show just for them. I used to have a picture of all of them together, hanging on the fridge. I was little at the time, and I thought it was so cool that my aunt had met him. He really was a great man.

I know a lot of people respect Mr. Rogers as a great human being, but if we really, _really_ took his words to heart, not just thought of them as touching and deep, I think that's what would really change the world. Really, truly treating everyone like your neighbor would fix so many problems.
@aCitizenOfTheEarth

I‘m with you. But I feel it kind of hard to define ‚... like you love yourself‘. I mean I try to be nice and often value the good of people I know higher than the good of mine. And if you are particular about it: even a little act of friendship like holding a door open for a stranger fits in that interpretation of ‚love‘ or devotion. So I would like to know which specific commandments/recommendations did Mr. Rogers communicate over the years? Or is it more like the big picture which one got when it/she/he watched Mr. Rogers for quite a time. I would accept that, but it doesnt help to understand the belief this man had. It seems that you were so fortunate to grow up with Mr. Rogers so maybe you could tell which good characteristics you think you have because of the best neighbour. I‘m looking forward to your answers. Have a nice day. Greetings from Bavaria, Germany, Earth.

Story time, featuring Klaus Burgstaller. When I learned some English that I could understand people, I was still a low quality boy. I didn't learn like most people because I moved. All though I was like 8, I felt like I was half my age due to my lack of learning. People were concered about me. Though back in the day, I did nothing on weekends and sick says but watch TV. One day I had a caught a cold so bad I had to say out of school for a week. My little sister, Aloisia, had known far more English than I did, and she was about 5. I came in after waking up during my sick week to see her watching a show called "Mister Roger's Neighborhood." I stuck along with her and watched a bit of it. I eventually started to like the show and wanted to see more. In which case, after watching the show, my speed of learning somehow increased. It was either because I was concentrating on something else, or because I was encouraged. In which, it was both. Apperently the show had saved my life from being a bigger failure then I was. However, when I was 15, I had heard the news that Mr. Rogers was already dead, in which I looked up his "last words" and fell into a lot of tears. And thus, Klaus' life through America had finally begun. And plus, I learned a lot of English through that show. That's the end of the story.

landcommander1981 Indeed. In all honesty, I grew up in a country where Mr. Rodgers wasn't aired, at least not on any national channels that my family had access to. Though watching this as an adult, I can honestly say I will have to show this to my kids, at least when they are young, before peer pressure makes them want to watch series with screaming, obstinate children with super powers that portray adults like complete idiots and bastards that you should never listen to... Sigh. What happened to good children's TV?
@landcommander1981
@landcommander1981 10 лет назад
Agreed, I think the world would be a much more self-adjudged place if we all just tried to live by some of the things that Mr. Rogers taught us. I do hope that you can show your children this program; it's a wonderful part of growing up. Sadly, the kids today don't seem to be receptive to shows like this. They want fast-paced programs, or shows with oversmart child characters who make the adults in their life feel stupid. When we lost Fred Rogers, we lost a lot of good children's television.

Rogers, Ross and Sagan were all in pretty different fields (Children's entertainment, painting, and astrophysics, respectively), but they all had a very positive message about life. I'm sure they were all on public TV at some point, but I think the reason people love them is that they're simultaneously intelligent and uplifting.

Yes, Mr. Rogers, Bob Ross, and Carl Sagan all had shows on PBS (Mr. Rogers's Neighborhood, The Joy of Painting, and Cosmos, respectively), but just as Mr. Johnson said below, they were also very positive, intelligent, and uplifting folks who addressed their viewers directly.

@goldilox369
@goldilox369 9 лет назад
Yep! Now *that's* old school! LOL... You knew you were slick when you got that cassette player/recorder! And, if you had a player with TWO tape decks?---Whoa, Hoss! Slow Down! Ah...mix tapes were the best! If you were a complete freak like me, you needed like a whole set up that could record off the radio, from one tape to another, from a record player or cd player, and also had a microphone jack plug in! But everything went on THE TAPE! And then I got a computer my first year in college, and basically failed out once I learned how to download mp3s. *sigh* Good Times...good times. I guess I spent too much of my youth in the Garden of my Mind!!

Everything I hear about Mr. Rogers makes me appreciate him more. One of my favorite stories about him is the one time his car was stolen. It was mentioned in the news that day and the next day the car showed up in his driveway. It had a note on it that that roughly said "if I knew it was your car I wouldn't have stolen it." Another favorite of mine is how a blind viewer wrote to him that she was concerned he didn't feed his fish enough. So every time he fed them on the show, he would say he was just for her. RIP Mr. Rogers.

Wow. European here, never seen Mister Rogers before. Life has let me down seriously these last years but this video reminded me of the sheer joy of living and learning I used to feel once. Needless to say I cried. Mr Rogers, PBS and the artist did exactly what it means to make the world a better place with this. Thank you so much! I will try to embrace the happiness of this video and the fascination of learning more in my own life :)

What made this show awesome was that Fred really was who he portrayed himself to be. And you could just tell. THATS why it was amazinf

Every time I listen to this a whole bunch of emotions well up. It's like recalling the memories of a close family member who's passed.

Same, but i have never watched his show. But he just makes me think about familt, both passed and present. And it brings a little tear to my eye :,)

rocket5010 I know what you mean. The way the piano music combined with his echoing words plucks at the strings of emotion. If you ever get the chance to watch some of his shows I think you'll like it. Very comforting to watch. Heck, when I have kids I'm going to try and buy up as many seasons as I can so they can watch.
