I can't think of any explanation for Mitch other than he is an alien. His breath control is out of this world. How does he sing all of those notes 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶 with one breath? I also agree about Matt being the star of the show. No need to compare. Matt is amazing all on his own. He killed the bass line in every song this year. Kevin is perfection. Kirsti added some gorgeous Harmony. I could never sing her part. So intricate detailed harmony. Scott is king of the riffs & runs. Thank you QoFy! Your joy and excitement comes through the screen so effortlessly. You're the best!!
If we watch a REAL live performance of Carol of the Bells ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7BZxBj0Hm8.html ), we can see that he is no alien and that he actually breaths A LOT !! But to me, it makes real live performances of Pentatonix 1000 times more impressive, genuine, and touching !!
If you watch this actual live performance of Carol of the Bells ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7BZxBj0Hm8.html ), you can see that he actually breathes a lot !! And to me, the real live performances of Pentatonix are 1000 times more touching, and genuine, and amazing !!
I am proud of Matt too. They also performed I Saw Three Ships in this show. I love how Kirstin, Scott, and Mitch all give Matt the proud "Yeah, you're killing it!" look at the same time.
So proud of Matt too. He has worked so hard. He had gone through so much struggle to be accepted and appreciated. And he has the professionalism not to be affected. Merry Christmas Qofy!
The part that you pointed out as your favorite is where they use a very, very old 16th century arranging technique known as 'counterpoint'. Instead of one melodic line with three voices in harmonic chords, they do music sudoku so that each voice has a separate and distinct melodic line of its own, but how they move together and line up together provides the harmonic chords with the voices above and below them. Pentatonix takes a very old set of techniques, and marries it with one of the newer "traditional" holiday carols (Carol of the Bells was written in 1919) for stunning effect.
Mitch is beyond talented. I have heard Kevin, Kirstie, and Scott all day Mitch has near perfect pitch (Kevin does have perfect pitch), phenomenal control of his voice, and is the “best” singer of the group. And he continues to improve. They all do. And I ❤️ Matt.
Matt was great, they were all great! This is one of my very favorite of their arrangements. Thank you for your reaction. As always, I love your enthusiasm.
I never get tired of watching this reaction. "Breathe! breathe!" I was thinking that too. I always sang alto part in choir. The boring "ding, dong, ding, ding" while the sopranos got the fun part. Good memories.
It's interesting, Mitch has gotten even better, apparently. I've watched a few different live videos of them performing this song back in the day and his breathing was always very noticeable. Understandable, obviously, but noticeable. I was sure they edited the breaths out for the studio track... but this makes me wonder.
mitch has always been amazing but he definitely has improved a lot since 2012 which is when this song came out. not just for this song but in general. i love how for certain songs like aha, back in 2011-12 he didn’t used to go that high but if you look at a performance of 2 or 3 years later it’s like he’s a different singer and i think it’s because he’s become so confident in his singing. i love it.
You are probably referring to this live TV version ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7BZxBj0Hm8.html ). Also you have to remember that they record the studio track mostly individually, at least for the lead part, and the assemble the lines in post-production so they actually can leave the breathing out (which is a mistake IMO). You can take a look at their Evergreen behind the scene documentary where we whitness their recording process ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M60SKKkQLqo.html ).
I head circular breathing mentioned in terms of Mitch in Carol of the Bells. I checked out and read about trumpet playing, but I’m wondering how you would do that while singing. He needs his tongue for the la-da-da-das. I’m confused.
Firstly, love you QoFy. I hoped you liked the video of the concert I sent you. Secondly I got VIP pass for the concert I went to. One the fans asked the group who their favorite member of the group is and why is it Mitch. Kevin and Matt called with the GOAT and stated that he never misses a note. In ten years he hits every note. I thought that fun to share with you
Matt has grown and now it's about time some fans stop the comparison.. He's good and he has really filled the shoes so let's give him his flowers... Me ma wo afihyiapa ooo onua b33ma qofy.. Onyame nhyira wo beberee
6:50 I paused it right in the middle of you saying “interesting” to replay the same part you talked about before I even knew you were gonna bring it up!! I hadn’t noticed that note in the harmony (a D5) before until then, I love seeing other people pick out the tiny things in these arrangements like you do
Yes, I have (sung this in a choir) so darn hard. THANX for the props to Matt! He is wonderful. People don't give him enough credit. Finally, someone who recognizes the depth of his talent - thanks for your reaction.
Hello QoFy! Love to see the smile on your face as you enjoy and appreciate Pentatonix. This is a great performance from them. Every time I watch them do this song, I think I hold my breath without realizing it. Mitch is the master of vocal and breath control. Love your comment "Oh Mitch!!" Exactly. Then Matt on the bass (boom!), Kevin beating, Kirstie with her tones, and Scott so warm. Beautiful production. Their wardrobes are outstanding too!
Here is an actual live performance of Carol of the Bells on TV ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7BZxBj0Hm8.html ) and we can see that he does breath a lot !! To me, this is 100 times better, more touching, more genuine, and more amazing !!
I absolutely loved your reaction to this PTX performance. You have got to be one of my favorite You Tubers!!! Hope you have a wonderful and Merry Christmas!! Thanks.
Third lung, fourth lung- that cracked me up! And so true- how does he have that much breath control!? Does he do rotary breathing- or does he just have huge capacity like pearl divers? They all sound amazing. Matt really steps up to take this on masterfully. Great reaction, and love to hear how much you enjoy this one too. ONE of my (many) favs.
I'm with you with Matt he is awesome and has come a long way I don't feel that Avi needs to be compared anymore it was a long time ago he left now you don't hear people complain about the change over with home free Chris and chance or voice plays many change overs it drives me nuts Avi is doing what he loves and that's that lol so I agree qofy you don't need to explain yourself at all great reaction Mitch is an alien who doesn't breath 🤣
I agree we should not compare Avi and Matt; however, that is always going to happen. I like Avi's voice better. My opinion. Avi has moved on, but he is an intelligent and great singer!
I just watched this again bc I wanted some good analysis of it and you had me crying laughing, smiling, and amazed through the entire thing. I had just finished watching the video again and I had never paid enough attention to Kevin just like you said. He KILLS this!!! Loved everything you said. Thanks for the laughs. I just found out my dad has stage 4 prostate cancer that's spread to every bone and he was always my cheerleader. I'm too far away to physically help which makes it harder. All that is to say that Ive saved this video, so I can return to it
I so enjoy watching your face when you are doing PTX reactions Qofy. Your amazement makes me smile and appreciate your appreciation of them. I believe that Mitch works very hard on his breath control between tours for performances like this. I remember seeing a PTXperience video from when they were performing in Mexico at high altitude. Everyone else seemed to need oxygen between songs except for Mitch. I also agree that Matt and Kevin were both great in their parts. Of course, Kirstin and Scott did their parts very well also. They are an amazing group.
Great Reaction.. 🎄 They are Stars..🌟 It is an incredibly hard song. I always enjoy your reactions because I can tell that you know what you are talking about.
Santa QoFy You are Absolutely One of My Favorite Reactors❤️Thank You. This was definitely A Live performance. Matt proved that he’s Human! ❤️PTX Always
I think what Mitch is doing, is just barely exhaling at all while singing, a well-known technique that he seems to have absolutely perfected. You can't project much or get a lot of volume doing that, but that's what a microphone is for. Swimmers routinely go two minutes or more without inhaling, so it's obviously physiologically possible; the hard part about doing it while singing is that normally you exhale a lot of air while singing. Trained singers use a lot *less* air while singing, especially when using a microphone, so there's nothing *conceptually* surprising here. But yes, Mitch is quite good at it.
They essentially made a Fugue out of Carol of the Bells. Fugues are an old style of composition dating back to at least the Renaissance era. Bach is probably the most well known composer of fugues. Genius to arrange it like this, not to mention they pull it off to perfection!
i'm a little less than a year late to watch this video and I'm so glad I found you because the thoughts you shared are exactly the same as mine! your Scott part at the end was quite on point, I might add! glad to know there are people out there who appreciate the same little nuances that I do :D greetings from Chile
I really enjoyed watching this entire 55 minute commercial free concert on my BYU tv app. Mitch has perfected his breathing technique, but Matt needs a little work he had to cut a note short to take a breath. I like Matt's voice so we'll that I don't miss Avi that much. I enjoy your reactions. Anyone that wants to see this entire concert it is well worth it.
And again, this is why this is my favorite Christmas carol ,and no one can sing it better than they can!this make me feel like .......I hope that's how it feels when we die and go to heaven😂😂😂 sooooooo goooooodddd
Fantastic reaction QoFy!!! Your “Oh Mitch”! If I am not mistaken, (someone will correct me if I am) Avi was with PTX 6 years. Matt has now been with them 4 years!! He joined Christmas tour 2017. Time flies when you’re having fun!
They did an amazing live version of Carol of the Bells on a TV show called The Talk. They were so young, but it was, as always, perfection. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7BZxBj0Hm8.html This is a very challenging song for both Mitch and the bass, and Matt did a great job here.
I have to say, I am disapointed in how they are staging some of these recent performances. Kevin is always way in the back, and they did not show his face on screen even once through the whole performance. Half the time you can't even see him because he is behind Scott. His part in this is so incredible. Matt does have a more prominent presence in this one, but is becoming more and more The Trio, with Matt and especially Kevin as their backup group.
I agree there is no reason for people to compare Avi and Matt. (Just like there is no reason to compare PTX and Home Free ). They are both excellent basses and groups. We should just appreciate and enjoy them all for the gifts they give us 🙂The version with Avi is also EXCELLENT. You should definitely go watch it.
This is OUTSTANDING! I think it's better than the studio version.. and as always your reaction was BRILLIANT! Your knowledge of music and awareness of each member of the group's placement is awesome! A JOY TO WATCH!❤💣🌶🌡🔥
Matt is great.no doubt. Karma was unkind to him. As good as he is, of all the places in the universe for him to land......Pentatonix behind Avi Kaplan. I will always love Avi. But I have a great deal of respect for Matt. The challange he took on to replace Avi was massive and he is facing it head on and succeeding beautifully. Well done.
I can't wait for you to see PTX in real life, I do hope it happens sooner rather than later. They'll probably have to tie you down to stop you joining in. I love this carol too and it's a physical pain trying to hold on until Mitch takes a breath. Oh, they are just all so extremely talented, and you are just the best at noticing everything.
Their placements would make sense. The way they are angled, they wouldn't be able to really see what the others are doing. Easier for them to concentrate on their own part.
hi, i appreciated your reaction! i'm looking for the videos of christmas under the stars performance. Do you happen to have and kindly share it or maybe someone know some friend that has these videos or tell me anything to help me find them? you'd really make a wish come true really. I am a huge fan of PTX, i lost these precious files and cannot hear my idols singing beautiful xmas song. Thanks so much.
Seeing "how it was and how it is" ... That's a comparison. I know you really like Matt, and you gave him mad props. But just let him be on his own merits. He studied the song the way PTX gave it to him ... It could have been Joe Brown doing bass when he was presented the song, Matt had to have a frame of reference. He knocked It "out of the Park." But if you want to react to the other version separately, fine; just let Matt have his limelight with PTX in this instance.
Found you a live version with Avi that you can react to. Keep in mind this was 2012 and Mitch while still good then he is so much better at what he does now. He certainly has improved his breath stamina. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u2PlmnolP34.html some people might suggest the one when they were on The Talk but i personally think they did better on this performance.
