This is what I wish people would understand about Johnson, he was no Flintoff. He was a force with the ball and at times our best bowler for years before the 13/14 Ashes came about. Yet so many treat him as a one series wonder...
It was his 4th series. Before this tri series, he made his debut in 3rd ODI of NZ-Aus ODI series in 2005. Then he played in 1 ODI against SA in SA in 2006 and then he played all 3 ODIs in Bangladesh before this. But this was the series where he came to limelight.
Mitchell Johnson is a superb bowler!!!!! Amazing experience shown in his Debut series itself he was called back after this game if this guy was an Indian he would have played 6-7 tours continuously!!!
I remember this match, it was played in Malaysia, M Johnson was still a new player, India had I Pathan at No 3 but V Sehwag in No 4, that night Johnson exposed the Indian batting order.
They were already exposed in West Indies tour just before this. Chappell's techniques were not stable enough. But still picking wickets of players like Sachin, Dravid and Yuvi is still great.
Tremendous bowling from Johnson - whenever he could get the ball to come in, he was right up there with the best! The Indian batting though, has Greg Chappell written all over it. Dravid opening and trying to play a Sehwag-like slash through the off-side, Irfan at no. 3 when the need was to anchor (the target was just so-so), not to pinch-hit! Sehwag getting run-out instead of standing and delivering.. Tendulkar changing his mind mid-stroke and suddenly poking when the ball's been moving all innings.. it just boggles the mind. Only Yuvraj's dismissal was unavoidable.
I saw this game live on TV. What a fiesty fierce competetor Mitch Johnson was. Breaking into the scene with so much authority! And his spell to Grame Smith in Down Under (2008-9) was one of the best of the cricket history.
His sling arm was more straighter back then. Mitch Johnson is the perfect hit-the-deck type you need in conditions that doesn't support swing or seam. See the bounce he extracted to get a tall batsman like Yuvraj out
Yes, but you could see slight movement off the seam or the ball holding it's line, I believe straight arm tall action was able to get the movement or else his sling arm action wouldn't have got those nasty movements off the seam.... but I so wished he kept his straight arm as his career progressed, I guess he traded that for extra pace..... but I feel if he hadn't he would've become much more lethal than he already was..
Dravid opening, Pathan at no.3 and Sehwag at no.4 - the most bizzare batting line up for India - I wish social media was present in those days - everyone would have roasted the Captain and Coach after such a "genius" incident !!!
@@fahimkhan-yi4pnBcoz of Chappel India had found Dhoni. Bcoz if Chappel didn't interrupted Indian team then Ganguly/Dravid would be the captain for 4 more years.
Once the bowl released from Johnson' s arm it's like a dinamite. It was a beautiful scene that his perfect length delivery uprooting the stump with ferocious pace 🔥🔥🔥
@@ramk3860 Yes true but he was comfortable against Brett Lee!!!! Even his debut series and second game he faced less of mcgrath sachin smashed him and mcgrath wasn't used much vs Yuvi it would have been a tough contest!!!!
what's wrong in it? Obviously on a ground where 350 is scorable in ODIs, teams would mostly score over 180 in T20s. Is this too much for you to understand? DLS is a very good tool for estimating but sadly people don't understand and make fun of it
@@AAAAAA-gj2di abe chutiye 50 overs me 350 nahi, 245 tha target 49 overs me. Aur tu ye bta 19 over km huye aur sirf 66runs km huye, kya logic hai Bhai is baat ka? Aur teko ni smjhta hoga DLS, kyuki jb india vs nz wc semifinal me nz ki 42 overs ki batting ke bad barish aayi tb india ko jo target milne wala tha DLS ke calculation se, utna to next day match hone pe bhi nahi mila. Aur teko ye nahi pta shayd ki DLS me har batsmen ko equal weightage milta hai, jo ki bahut illogical hai.
Dravid and sachin got out coz of their own mistakes . Watch their dismissal specially tendulkar’s it was over pitched asking for the drive furthermore those two deliveries to irfan and yuvi was good tho .
India batting lineup was timid at this period, people romanticize with this batting line up but reality was different many times the cant chase even 200 on flat decks vs teams like aus n sa 😅😅😅
It was Greg Chappel and India's downturn time. Greg Chappel was known to do experiments (mostly bizzarre). Initially his experiments clicked with India winning vs Srilanka (6-1), Eng (5-1), Pak (4-1) but eventually the experiments got exposed leading to losing in SA (0-4), WI (1-4) and of course World cup 2007 debacle
Yuvi failed in this but in icc knockouts he always delivered vs aus 2000 ct qf- mcgrath played 2007 t20 wc semis - johnson played 2011 wc qf -johnson played
Just watching the pace and bounce of the balls is scary. How insanely difficult it must be for the batsmen to play these. Great bowling. Wonderful talent Johnson is.
