watched this the first time and thought nothing of the intro then but upon rewatching i noticed the lines in the corners of his mouth and how their head droops to the side when he touches them. everything has already happened and he's clumsily kissing a corpse. good god

oh this is so gorgeous - him wanting to give his lover the liquid happiness they so crave, to save their life, but at the last second the temptation is too much. the pure anguish on his face at that second is incredible

as someone who struggled with opiate addiction and lost my partner to an overdose this just got recommended to me and hit me like a ton of bricks

I honestly love this animation so much, it makes me want to sob uncontrollably. I find it the most jarring that when the mc's lover(?) dies and he pulls them into the alley, he tries to inject the liquid 'happiness' into their arm, as if it'll bring them back, only to almost unwillingly plunge the syringe into himself. It simply just shows how dependent he is on it to the point where he finds saving his partner to be a waste of resources and using the liquid on himself to feel *something*, anything at all-- because he simply *needs* it.

im sobbing over this. drug abuse and depression run in my family and my dad is living this lifestyle right now. seeing how sad and needy drug use turns people, more so than just knowing, and seeing it in such a heartfelt piece really hit home. i know this man. and i can't stand how deeply this hurt to watch. never stop creating, i would kill to be able to make people feel as much as you made me with this

This is so disturbing and absolutely amazing. The dream sequences with the shading is so smooth and beautiful. The way you can show so much story in just a few minutes is insanely impressive, and yet it never feels rushed

there were several points where this was so haunting, honestly the whole entire thing was so horrifying (in a way where i very much appreciated your work of course !!) but the transition to the ending + the ending and the part where he opens the letter felt like my heart skipped a beat. i wasn’t expecting to come across something this tragic but i’m so happy that i did. thank you for this. 💜

This is incredible truly oh my god. I love your interpretation of this song. Especially how you illustrated the intensity as it grows louder and more jumbled in the instrumentals, it made my heart literally pace. I loved the symbolism too, with the smiley faces and that urge to feel the serotonin rush that comes from drugs. I love this song and I love this piece and you did an amazing job at capturing the intensity of the song and everything overall.

THIS IS INSANE OH MY GOD??? absolutely in love with this... It feels like its moving at a million miles an hour, never holding on anything in specific for long, but not to the detriment of the timing of the animation. Theres so much expessiveness to it, too, and im just... Augh. The bathroom-bedroom-bathroom sequence in specific is my favorite section, i think. Thank you for making this!!

your art is exceptionally haunting in a way that most people wont dare attempt. i got goosebumps all over me ughhhhhh. your art really captures the the deeper side of mitski songs that is often overlooked in other adaptations. though i have to ask, is the kissing under the moon sequence at the beginning, by any chance, inspired by the devilman crybaby ending? it looked really similar to me so im slightly curious :D great video overall!!!!

This is so underrated. You captured so many features. Like he has a shine in his eye only when he takes the drugs, at the intro you see the main character caress the smiley faced characters face and it numbly droops to the side. You then see the reality set into the main characters face as the shine leaves his eyes, realising his partner is dead. Also the bruising on his arms indicating that he’s taken the drugs for so long. Showing how unhappy he’s been.

i mean this as a compliment: i have never in my entire life been made so deeply uncomfortable by any piece of animation until now. i had a massive pit in my stomach. i literally felt the anxiety come on. this entire piece is jam-packed with genuine feeling. it was like your art reached through the screen and pulled me into the setting. i literally have no idea how else to describe just how vivid this video is. terrifying, disturbing, and absolutely ASTOUNDING.

I found it deeply uncomfortable to watch (literally my body clenched up at parts and my heart started beating faster cuz I got stressed for this character 😢) but I immediately want to watch it again.
