Great video! Very detailed and instructional. One of the best ' how to' auto repair videos I've ever utilized. I have a 1997 3000 VR4 twin turbo w a/c. Live in Atlanta Ga. My vehicle has 52,100 original miles but my alt wore out due to the after market audio equipment and 12" subs in the car. My 16 yr old son and I took about 3.5 hrs to complete the installation. Some smaller bracket bolts and tire well fasteners took significantly more time but everything else was straight forward. Thx for your video!! Well done!!
Just did this over the past weekend. On my car (twin turbo) there was a bracket holding the knock sensor connection on the top of the front of the alternator bracket. You can see the empty hole on the black bracket in this video. Just disconnect the wire connector to separate the parts, and remove the single bolt to free this part. Also, if you need a little more clearance to remove the alternator, the A/C condenser fan can be easily removed. The fan is held on to the radiator with only 4 bolts: 2 top and 2 bottom. The 2 bottom bolts need to be loosened from underneath; they don't need to come all the way out. The top 2 bolts are easily removed, then pull the fan straight up and out. Be aware that this exposes the delicate fins on the backside of the radiator. Place some cardboard up next to the radiator to protect the fins while working.
I have an NA and I removed the condenser fan. Only trouble is its still easy to damage the radiator. Hubby stuck a piece of corflute in front of radiator. I'll see how that works
I’ve had my 1999 mitsubishi 3000gt sl for over 2 years and have been dreading doing maintenance on it cuz it seems everywhere I take it people want to charge an arm and a leg so I started doing my own research and so far your videos have been the best help thank you!
Thank goodness for this channel. Glad we actually have knowledgeable people making professional in depth videos for these awesome cars. Doing the alternator as we speak with this video on the iPad walking me through it.
I really enjoy your videos have been watching them for about a year. I just changed all my assessory belts, not much room but with your help it was much easier. I will watch your videos even though I don't need the repairs. Thank You Much Again Brother
@@6lackRain I didnt have a problem but I dont recall having to take a bolt off the pulley but i did have to loosen the middle bolt of the pulley then loosen the tensioner bolt to get the belt off.
Wow very informative thanks! My 97 3000GT just got a new battery but its already drained. Will be checking for any parasitic drains and may change the alternator. Thanks!
Thank you Joe. Did the job today and worked out well. Biggest issue was getting it out and in, Phew!! Awesome help from you. Very much appreciated!! Dave
Pretty cool to see someone doing videos like this. Wish there was someone out there doing a 280zx like this. Anyways thanks for the information. -Wahpeton, North Dakota ('94 3000)
Larry From Chicago: Joe another excellent video and my project tomorrow and lifters next. I am also replacing the belt. Should I replace the tensioner and isn't there more than one? Love all your videos, thank you brother!
Hey Joe.. I'm making a video about my car as a submission for entry for the contest you're currently doing, and was hoping you could take a look at it. I've found some very alarming rust that's formed from the inside in the trunk, and it looks like I'll have to split the overlapping layers of sheet metal to get at it properly. I've been through a lot with this car and I don't want to give up on her. The are a bunch of other things too, and they would make a pretty comprehensive video series. Not very serious but lots of variety haha Congrats too mate the channel is gaining ground and it's very nice to see. I predict 5k by next year once word really travels (and the RU-vid algorithm sees the regular uploads you've been doing).
I replaced my alternator, now my belt is squealing. Did I make it too tight? And how long should I let car run after replacing alternator to recharge battery? I drove about 10 minutes and shut it off then I was gonna take it to work the next day but it wouldnt start.
I am restoring a Dodge Stealth TT RT and I'm having so much trouble figuring out if there is an electrical problem, fuse problems, alternator problem, or just a starter problem.
My engine bay was full of oil from valve cover leak so decided to remove drivers side fan assembly instead of timing cover, didn't feel like getting oil on timing belt.
Good work bud , i have 1991 TWIN Turbo in RED , i need to do my alternator , when will there be video of how to repair unit , i am sparky so i am sure i should be able to fix my self
Hi Chris This job is on the list but I am snowed under with work right now and this is only a hobby. I have nearly 100 video requests to work on and I will do my best to do each on as fast as possible. I hope you can wait.
The bolt that the harness from the car attaches to towards the bottom of the alternator is a 1/2 inch instead of a 10mm on the alternator I ordered. How can I fix this? The hole at the end of the harness isn’t wide enough
Great video! Hi, My Name is Jamie I am from Scotland. In my GTO the speedometer has stopped working. I have looked online and believe their is a speedo gear that needs replacing. If you could do a video on how/where to purchase it would be highly appreciated. Thanks :)
What paint did you use on your mustache, looks a little bit more than a satin but less than a gloss. Wouldn't mind the same finish on mine! Thanks - Paddy
I would really love to help I no longer have my only sohc 3000gt and it was the only one in the UK. You could go onto my forum and enter the competition to have the job done for free.

I thought everything was going well while I was taking off the plastic covers under the wheel well but when I got them off it turns out my alternator is mounted on the back of the engine rather then the front 😩
Hi, I would love to see a tutorial on how to remove the front active aero system! (The person who trailered my VR4 to my house completely ruined it while loading and unloading the car) Thanks, -Adam Warner, Ireland
My name is Cody Franklin from Texas in the United States, I really need your help taking out my fuel pump for my 1994 3000gt sl!
