Cleaning up the 6G75 wrecker motor. Then reassembly with Tim G, Eli B and Mal B for moral support. Installed with Michael P, and he's enjoying it. Music - Reminiscence - Prod. Guishaw 3LEEP - Dreamer
These are just wrecker motors that are checked over, normally borescope the cylinders and check compression first. New water pump, timing gear, etc. Sometimes even the heads come off, check the head surfaces, new valve stem seals, clean up the intake and exhaust ports, new head gaskets etc.
I will start my cleaning and rebuilding of my 2003 monter 6g75 if I have bent valves or damaged pistons do you recommend any aftermarket parts to upgrade? and any tips for rebuilding the motor
There's really no need to use any big aftermarket parts unless you're planning forced induction, even then if you use good fuelling a stock engine will take it just fine. The only thing I would maybe recommend is cam gears and you can tune the stock cams for some more torque, that also leaves things open to tuning aftermarket cams if you got some down the track.
I have this engine in my 380 VRX! Really nice. Do you think heavier valve springs would rid me of the lifter tick? I've heard it's not good for the cams. Also any recommendations on parts like pistons, rods, crank and cams? Perhaps individual intakes (kinda like an ITB if that makes sense, I don't know much about those but they look cool!)
The main thing you should look for with the 380 is someone that can tune them to remove the triple cats and get a better intake snorkel on it. The 380s were detuned for the next step of euro emissions so they make less power than if you were to put them in a magna. The exhaust is heavily restricted and they came out with the same 4 cylinder intake snorkel as the lancers. Regular oil changes and proper oil level should keep the lifter tick down unless they are worn out. Not too bad of a job to replace them.
Lifter tick is either low oil, wrong oil, it worn lifters. Heavier valve springs are only to control valve float at higher rpm, you want the lightest valve spring that allows complete control over the valve at the rpm the engine is being used. If you use more, it increases wear and tear and reduces power
