Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX Fluid Change - everything you need to know

In this video I change the cooling system, engine oil, transmission, transfer case, and rear diff fluids in my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX with a 5 speed manual transmission.

2G Cooling System
1.85 Gallons
I used distilled water and 6 oz of Redline Water Wetter
2G Engine Oil
5 Quarts
Oil Pan Drain Plug = 17mm
Weight Recommendations (climate dependent):
5W-30
10W-30
20W-40
I used Valvoline Full Syn Max Life 10W-30 with K&N HP-1010 filter
2G (AWD) Manual Trans
2.3 Quarts
Fill Plug = 17mm
Drain Plug = 24mm
I used Redline MT-90
2G Transfer Case
.55 Quarts
Fill Plug = 17mm
Drain Plug = 24mm
I used Redline Heavy ShockProof
2G Rear Diff
.95 Quarts
Fill Plug = 24mm
Drain Plug = 24mm
I used Redline Heavy ShockProof

Thanks for the vid man! I've owned my GST for 5 years now (3rd owner of this beauty) and needed a good vid to show me the gearbox oil change. Don't get my wrong the forums are helpful, but so many people go in there and put their opinions everywhere that it's so hard to find a straight answer the majority of the time. Oh and congrats to everyone that's sharing the fact that they now own a GSX/GST. Just a tip, change all your vacuum lines and coolant hoses to save yourself from impending doom of having to deal with them going out one at time in the future because I dealt with that a year ago and it's not fun.

It's always good practice to remove the fill plug first just in case it won't come off lose before you drain the pan.

Are the bolts in the same location for the transmission for a gst as it is for a gsx?

Don't know if it was answered but a viscous coupler needs a speed differential to lock up. You simply can't spin it fast enough by hand to make the rear diff lock up.

So glad I've found this channel, very satisfying to watch hehe. Still kicking myself in the nuts for not buying a white 2g eclipse 4 years ago when I found it for 900euros with a 4g63 :( Definetly have to keep an eye for these as they're becoming instict

the hydraulic tappets are working dry, i noticed it just by the sound, mine was doing the same when it was low oil, you should check this issue before its too late! I advise you to change them if they are locked or check your car's oil level, chrck if the oil dipstick is genuine, the oil viscosity is correct and stuff, in Brazil, urban area i use 10w40, and it made the noise stop

That’s a pretty old video now. The head has been rebuilt and it has all new lifters in it.
