It's really good some of you may think that it's bad but it's actually really good. It got up that ramp easily take note that AWD systems take time to react. Keep it in Auto with traction control on or mud with traction control on and boom. Also SAWC is for rallying not for heavy off-road Snow, Tarmac, Sand all of those are for rallying not off-road so that's why it struggles but in Mud and Auto with traction control on it shines
This is AWD system not 4X4, its functioning as it should. When there is no traction its take couple of seconds for computer to realize and move powers to other wheels. Its working as predicted.
The main difference between 4WD and AWD is 4WD has selectable 2WD/4WD. Either system could have locking differentials of some sort that will apply power to both wheels on the axle and not require traction control to apply brakes to the free spinning wheel so the wheel with traction gets grip.
I just got a 23 Outlander Ralliart and one thing I’m gonna do before I take it off-road is get a good set of all terrain tires. AWD alone won’t get you out of a situation but combined with some good tires and you’re good to go.
I live these tests! I have to say in the comments though that this vehicle with S-AWC is really made for the tarmac is multiple conditions. REAL off-road is still suited for 4X4’s and if you have AWD, going to want LSD’s around too. Also, the challenges of these tests really show were the weakness is of the system. However if it were my Outlander that I own, I have better tires properly inflated, cut the wheel, and use momentum. Remember it’s is a luxury designed fir the street with occasional use. Otherwise, get a rugged Montero or Jeep with 4X4. Enjoying the videos!
Considering the lack of wheel travel, negligible ground clearance, dire approach and departure angles, not to mention the wildly inappropriate for off road usage wheel and tyre package, I would consider this a relative pass mark, for the traction control system at least.
Good looking car , right price for what offer and mainly families will buy it. To go off road get yourself a Jeep and good luck !!! Buyers know the real reason to purchase this product , I hope.
I paid attention to this video. Went and bought one. Put Bf Goodrich trail ta on all 4. These systems work just as designed. Not a rubicon. The cvt is great. Hope they finally stopped making crap. Have had Mitsubishi in past. Never a problem. I am very picky on maintenance.
It's a nissan Rogue I bought a Platinum also except the rogue has 19 inch wheels which I like for a better ride and more traction with lower tire pressure nice vehicle so far
My 2016 Oulander GT has a lock mode to split power 50/50 front and back but if you don't select it you're at the mercy of the normal mode operation.... Also, as mentioned, more aggressive tires would be beneficial...
Everyone is saying that's it's bad but actually it's not that bad at all it can get through not flawlessly it still struggles but not that super struggling also it brakes the spinning wheels too just keep it in mud mode and traction control on all the time and vioala you've got a pretty capable suv
Test isn't good in my opinion... Would you really go off roading with cheap 4 season tires they give at the dealership? With the 20" wheels you look more for the style and luxury of the SUV not the off road side of things... Put some decent A/T tires on it and you wouldn't have any or hardly any spinning like I did... Test isn't representitive at all of what it can do, unless you go "off road" with 4 season tires...
Looking at one right now, I Kayak and Mountain Bike a lot and my Sedan doesn't cut it. Tired of needing friends when we go down rougher driving trails. I think that's what this is for not Jeep style off roading.
It's not the awd system that's the problem Mitsubishi puts these performance all season tires that are mainly for street use only cause they don't dig in good when you take it off road i had to change mine deep tread all season tire
@@AWDfreak badly ahahah it's actually not that bad hahaha like the CR-V and the Rav4 does also I think it needs a more powerful engine the AWD system itself is very capable I noticed that it tried to brake the spinning wheels too
I used to take my 2018 eclipse cross on logging roads in the snow with oversized studded tires and it would go places I would not expect it to with little trouble. My wife’s 2019 outlander we recently traded in for a 2022 outlander which also did awesome but this is concerning to me. I was expecting the same capability.
@@jakobv8266 no worries still depend to the driver of how you may chose your selector option & once you used to it, Mitsubishi still has the best AWD!!
Yea I take mine offroad for work frequently, it actually crawls pretty slowly even up steep rocky access roads if you put it in 1st" gear (CVT) There are no real skidplate but the oil pan is metal. I would recommend test drive first you might hate CVT if you've never driven one however
So disappointing. I thinks this actually bad for Mitsubishi because they are lying about offering Super AWC. The car struggles so bad in every mode, that is dangerous. Mitsubishi should see this videos and re program the AWD immediately.
It's sad so many AWD/4WD vehicles are really just 2wd because of the open front and rear differentials that only rely on the brakes to lock the free spinning wheel. How expensive is it to add at least a locking rear diff??
My 2008 volvo xc90 has two modes auto and winter mode. i think and it has 11.5 off ground and a v8. Im sure itll do just as good or not better!! 32approach 26 departure and 20 breakover mine has
All improvements went to make it posher but in fact is worse than the older model....I got a diesel manual from 2015 3 systems only eco auto and lock ....never had issues to climb a little grass hill like the above video....fact that posher doesn't mean better....no matter how many lamps you put on it....
It's an amzing car. Looks like the driver don't know how to take advantage of the different possibilities. He dosent even know hot to use the brakes correctly... Lol
these new electric powertrains don't deliver enough torque per wheel with open dif especially if rear motor it's smaller than front one, for off-road front based vehicles like jeep 4xe they should ad low range on rear and maybe geared or even parallel(non sinergic) hybrid the front one
It can climed that hill without any problems. People say it's bad and not as good as the older Outlanders but it's still the same capable SAWC the only problem that this has is that it has more modes the old ones have only 3 which has really no difference to all of the 3 modes while this has 7 I think modes which makes it seem really bad because your going through 7 of the modes. On this you can really feel the difference just keep it in Auto and Traction Control on or Mud with Traction Control on and viola and you've got a capable SUV.
@@TMS5100 I'm saying it is still good - albeit maybe not the best for off road like a 4X4 with diff locking - BUT it gets the job done for what it was designed for. There's other real-world tests out there showing S-AWC and it has surprised those testing it for again, what it was designed for. Example was in Colorado snow where it went further than expected in deep snow with the factory tires while a Nissan 4X4 went about 11ft further.
definitely a road car, more like a people mover or a road utility wagon. This would fail even in fire roads, probably with better tires and a regular automatic tranny, None of that CVT BS

@@CarQuestion LOL no I just hope that guy who has that nice green lawn you messed didn't get your tag number. Anyone watching you going over the same ruts must have thought you were nuts!
When you see how quickly other makes clamp down on the spinning wheels this is really poor. Look at the Land Rover vehicles and this seems even more of a joke. There seems very little point in relying on the 4x4 systems in these cars.
Mitsubishi Outlander S-AWC Diagonal test Off-road note: We expected more, sometimes it was a real struggle just to get inside the trench. The best result was achieved in Normal or Mud mode at full throttle. But there is that roll-back movement even when pressing the accelerator that is unacceptable and might be dangerous to get you back in a stuck position. Leave TCS ON, it's no use when it's OFF and gives similar results. Expect also similar results with the Nissan Rogue. The system will offer greater handling on the tarmac and on a snow-covered road, but when facing a real challenge like sand, roller, and our test hill, S-AWC is not what it use to be! At least there was no disconnection.
This is very disappointing. The Mitsubishi S-AWC has been a good performer in the past. This is truly a step backwards in performance. Also the discontinued V6 option for owners with camping trailers/boats and other towable will look elsewhere.
5:00 - The guy should stay on the gas pedal and not let revving with the constant rpm, so the big brain of the car could not intervene. Like he wanted to show that the off-road systems are bad. Don't blame the Mitsubishi Outlander for your intentionally bad driving.
Look at your own video, genius! The guy keeps revving at mid rpm and not maxing the engine out. Even at the point when the car keeps slightly moving uphill, he backs up from the gas pedal - at approx 6:00. How stupid do you guys think we are - you can also hear the engine not revving more than at mid rpm, like the whole time!!!??? And finally at 6:15 he rolls back and uses momentum. Your goal is what exactly - to destroy your car? To prove you can not drive? Good for you.
@@adolfgerhardhermann5952 bro... it's how the TCS acts You don't want to belive ... fine with me Go check the Pathfinder we're it shuts off and roll back You think we invented stuff ? Go get you fixed buddy
mal conductor, no tiene peso el carro para circular en superficies mostradas, tampoco dobla la direccion para maniobrar obstaculos, mal ejemplo de conduccion, mala muestra, no es representativo.
Yeah, sorry, it's not a Mitsubishi anymore in the old sense of it. They really should have instead kept the Pajero platform to differentiate it from the Cross - which ironically gets its AWD system from the anemic previous gen Outlander - and then market the two differently. This doesn't help their case to sell either of the two product lines. What they've effectively done here is a disservice to the, MC brand and heritage by saying, "were making A Ralliart" (forthcoming) , when they're using pedigree from a competitor that once couldn't compete with Mitsu engineering. Not even close! They could have done better by going to its older 4Bxx engines and S-AWC from the Evo X... then carried that forward as this next gen Outlander's power /drivetrain... then used the chassis from the Renault/Nissan CD platform to deliver their cost-cutting measures. Because that would still be more attractive and sellable as A Mitsubishi option to other better-positioned makes and models than this limp heffer. It's so sad. Pretty... but sad. Like a boastful meathead who claims he's hot shit... but can't put up a fight when dared to a brawl.
