The Mitsubishi Shogun is great off-road and feels robustly built. It seats up to seven and is well equipped, but it may be the Tonka Toy looks that really appeal. The Mitsubishi lacks refinement and although the diesel engine has plenty of pulling power, it can still struggle with the weight of the car.

Im british, please understand there is a difference between brand loyalty and national propaganda.. I totally agree the land cruiser is probably the best in this class of vehicle. I own this exact edition of the mitsubish, it is quite prone to rust and the mpg isnt great. It is however excellent at towing, and off road it is extremely capable, even with road tyres.. please think twice before a caps lock rant

Pajero 4 is a solid vehicle and the best in its class especially for off-roading. I drove it across countries in a week of 5000kms with 0 issues. I drive in stock car, and changes tyres and shocks/bushes every 2 years (due to my driving style :) ). Last year i tried ironman shocks without lifting. the car has crossed 600.000 kms and still doing good. Very comfortable in long journey. And excellent safety features in par or superior to land cruiser. The automatic transmission and the engine is pretty solid... and the very reason they still manage to sell this product almost after 10 years of its launch shows how good this make is.

How's your fuel pump doing? Hope you have a spare £4500 to fix it when it brakes. And it WILL brake.

How can you compare this to Hyundai Santa Fe. Shogun is body on frame and is full size SUV, whilst santa Fe is unibody and a cross over. Some car reviewers this days don't know nothing about cars.

@@kalimann2766 Other way around, sports is ladder chassis, shogun is monocoque/unibody. I worked at a Mitsubishi dealer when the shogun changed to monocoque.

as someone who owns one of these the engine does not struggle to pull it's weight in traffic, you just have to put your foot down a bit harder to bring out that torque and power

Mitsu SO needs to bring this to America! The last one was awesome here, and it's a rarity to see one on the road.....and Mitsu needs a great SUV here again...the only thing they are respected over here for, is the Evo.:(

I got the 170 did with a chip for almost one year now and I couldn't be happier. Looked at Disco 4 as before I got it but the Disco 4 just fell on its face with poor design and quality feel compared to the Pajero. Also, Mitsubishi have 13 wins in Paris - Dakar with this car so you just KNOW it's built on hard experience.

This model costs around 10-15K for a 2008-09 model depending on mileage, and it only comes with a 3.2 Diesel engine.........The same money could buy you a Range Rover sport in either the 4.2 petrol or 3.8 diesel variant.I was told to avoid the discovery like the plague due to its issues, I think the best shogun to get for value and capability would be a 2002 3.5 GDI model.

looking at getting a 4x4 at the moment. Looking at Land Rover discovery, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota land cruiser and the Shogun. Its for the wife so off road capability is not essential but we will be towing a boat. Looking for comfort and value. would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

Bit of an old reply but it may be relevent to someone. Toyota Hilux, Landcruiser. Mitsubishi Shogun, L200 Landrover will pull it but you'll probably break down half way or something will break.

nice car. i would buy it. discovery 4 is much more expensive and not as reliable and land cruiser prado is too common and boring. and its great offroad.

None of the reviewers nagative comments apply to the short wheel base model, and you get both good mileage and performance this car will sit at 100mph all day , its the weigh in the bigger LWB model that's the problem. The relaibility of these car is only matched by the Land Crusier, the Land Rover will always be needing a service, and the Jeep would always need repairing, especially now its owned by Fiat

Or how about the £1000 inlet manifold fix? Oh.. And the joke about the £600 limp mode problem? Yeah.. I didn't think it was funny when mitsubishi told me those jokes either! :(

10 Years ownership and 154k miles and it never needed a replacement fuel pump or anything else outside of normal servicing, and this is why the Traffic Agency use Shogun's on the motorways

@@rafordy I have a 14yo with 238,000 kms. I've only had tyres and a belt replaced. Although I do need a new sun roof motor now. I think Rebecca just got sold a lemon and is now blaming the brand

Im really unsure as to where you got the land rover part from, there are many types of land rover for a start so its hard to answer this reply. I love my mitsubishi but im just stating my grievances, its prone to rust and it isnt great for overtaking. I average about 28 miles to the gallon with it, which isnt terrible but could be better. The land cruiser is very very similar, and it not exclusively used by terrorists.

That is called PAJERO not shogun. In the phillipines that is 3,550,500 but in the U.S.A.that is 550,000

@@rebeccaedwards3784 The Shogun fuel pump is a Denso unit that is common to many different models of car. You didn't have a Mitsubishi issue, you had a Denso issue. Probably had something to do with you buying the cheapest diesel from the dodgiest servo no doubt, as most fuel pump failures are.

@@BensMis-adventures she is confused between the 3rd generation 3.2DID which is equipped with an electronically controlled fuel pump (rotary injection pump) but the 4th generation 3.2DID is equipped with Denso common-rail fuel system the same as installed on Toyota, Isuzu, Nissan...

even with diesel engine, Land Rover and the rest of the British auto makers are still under performing with terrible reliability record compared to Japanese and German cars. Land Rover is so unreliable and the engine explodes under intensive heat that it is so unsafe for U.S market that Consumer Report Magazine and J.D. Power gave Land Rover a BLACK dot (poor) in every aspect. British cars are so inferior in quality & reliability that they can't sell in the USA and other parts of the world.

How is a shogun/pajero in any sense 'reliable'? They are terrible! Been charged over £1000 for a problem with the inlet, then ended up in the garage again due to a limp mode problem.. That's cost £600. And after just getting it back, the ship mitsubishi fuel pump is now dieing and is going to cost £4500 to replace! . How does mitsubishi justify that kind of money for what should be an £80 part!? It's not even a good pump! Please tell me again how Japanese cars are so wonderful?

Good riddens. it's reliability is awful and servicing costs for what should be simple replacement parts is astronomical. How does mitsubishi justify a bill of £4500 to replace a fuel pump!? (yes that's not a typo) How is it that the fuel pump on my old audi costs £80 and lasts twice the millage???? For £4500 I'd expect the pump to be made out of gold and last the price equivalent of 6 million 750 thousand miles. Because for the same price you could buy 52 audi bosch pumps, each capable of minimum 120,000 miles. Disgusting greed on the part of mitsubishi if you ask me..

here is the states they stop making that car in 2006....called the Full size Montero. What a piece of garbage.......way too expensive, way too high maintenance, and so un-freaky reliable.....Mitsubishi wanted to compete with the toyota's land cruiser, but there is no chance.
