@@50jakecs I'm not defending Romney's economic or religious positions. That said, these are no longer the lines on which our parties are breaking. We're now fighting over whether we should remain a liberal democratic republic with checks and balances or if we should give into creeping fascism and allow a death cult to govern us. Romney has solidly been on the side of the former, since before it was politically expedient and he does deserve credit for that.

We don't have to support the values of the opposition (wouldn't be much of a democracy if everything thought the same, would it), but we can still be civil and show each other common courtesy. We should also try to raise the bar over MAGA people who chant "traitor" on a plane.

But, he did the right thing when it comes to Trump..whether it was because he sees Trump as a threat to The GOP/Wall st cabal or because he has a real problem with Trump's toxic affect on American politics. Politicians know how to act and what to say, its espionage. They'll manipulate how you feel, and use what you want dangled in front of you. Then they use short term memory to keep pulling the carrot in time, giving just a minimal leeway to keep the game going. People fall for it, they pick trump or they vote biden because he isnt trump. I voted green party last election and only 2% were with me. Im accounting for that number to know how much of society needs to be mutated to be more intelligent/empathetic.

I'm a Texan, used to be Republican. I wouldn't have been so polite to someone that gave me that attitude. Mitt Romney showed restraint, and was honest, and polite to her. And in answering her question, I'd give her the same answer I give everyone else when asked why I'm no longer a Republican. My ideology as a Republican is not even close to what this Trump party is today. The last of the true Republicans died with Sen. John McCain. The last time I was asked, I told them I voted for Joe Biden because I love my Country's Democracy.

At Bain, Romney was responsible for putting thousands of Americans out of work because the companies they worked for had assets worth a few bucks more than their market cap. Some of Trump's most ardent supporters were probably in that group. They obviously chose the wrong remedy (fascism) and are now completely divorced from reality, but I think we have a responsibility to try to welcome them back to the real world if our society is going to function again.

I'm not at all Republican and can't stand all these treasonous Retrumplicans in the Capitol, but Mitt Romney is the only one who voted to impeach Trump and usually spoke out against Trump whenever he felt Trump did something wrong. What he said on the January 6th ceremonial electoral vote and confirmation in his speech after the storming was one of the best speeches told by a Republican Senator that had Democrats applauding him as well as myself. I think he is a good man and has integrity. I disagree with his politics, but I can't say I hate him at all cause he has demonstrated nobility throughout the Trump catastrophe

If I worked on a school project and literally did nothing, then I deserve a 0% on it. If I did at least a little work on it, I deserve a grade that is at least slightly higher than 0 , like 15%. Of course, that is still well below the passing grade but at least it is slightly better than a 0. Even if you don't agree with most of Mitt Romney's views, can't you at least give him a grade of 15% for standing up to Trump? It isn't much but it is still better than the Republicans that always defend Trump.
