Are mixed conditionals necessary in English? Yes! And do they need to be difficult to use? Not at all!
With your years studying English, you have learned about the
- Zero Conditional
- First Conditional
- Second Conditional
- Third Conditional
And now, let's talk about the mixed conditional forms.
A mixed condition is exactly what it sounds like - it mixes the other conditional structures.
For example, it will blend the Second Conditional and Third Conditional.
Why do we need this?
Because mixed conditionals help you transition through time or connect time.
For example, you might imagine an unreal past. And connect it to an unreal present:
"If I had learned French as a kid, I would have a perfect French accent."
In this Confident English lesson, I will walk step-by-step through how to accurately use mixed conditionals with the unreal past and why you should.
This English grammar practice will improve your accuracy and advance your grammar knowledge.
To get EXTRA practice, I have a FREE worksheet you can download at my Speak Confident English website.

@@Speakconfidentenglish I have understood third conditional very well. Thank you so much for the great work once again. I am looking forward for mixed conditional 2+3. I would like to know how it differs from third conditional. I would be greatly obliged if you could do it. Apart from stative verbs ,can we make mixed conditional 2+3 with action verbs also ? Hope to hear from you. Thanks 🙏🙏 and Lots of love 💕💕💕.

Hi Annemarie! Will there be a follow-up video discussing the mixed conditional pattern: 'If you were nice, he wouldn't have stolen your wallet'? It's somewhat different from, for example, 'If I hadn't come across that man, I would still have my wallet on me now.' While both 'If you were nice' and 'I would still have my wallet on me now' refer to unreal present situations, they are not exactly the same (in my opinion). If you could elaborate on the difference between the two, it would be awesome!

Hello and thank you for the question. It looks like you're using the First Conditional form here, indicating that it is likely or possible that you will tell "him" something. You can learn more about the first condition here: www.speakconfidentenglish.com/conditionals-part-1/

@@Speakconfidentenglish thanks It is not the second ,Isn't it ? coz its imagination by using think I mean its not real
@Speakconfidentenglish
@Speakconfidentenglish 4 месяца назад
In the example provided, the verb 'tell' is in the present simple and 'will' is used. This follows the first conditional pattern. You can get all my lessons on conditionals here: www.speakconfidentenglish.com/?s=conditionals
