Very informative, I like videos like this. In my neck of the woods we are mostly oak as far as hardwoods. Honey locust may be one of the better woods for us as far as btu’s. Most people don’t mess with them because of the thorns. We have very few ash and what we have is being killed off. Occasionally we may find poplar or elm. Most maples that we see are ornamental and have been planted in different landscapes.

Lots of great info in today's video! Thanks and nice job, Mr.Chris! Is it the Hard or Soft Maple that the bark texture changes a lot between the log and branches on the same tree? Different video today Chris. Quite refreshing actually you have to admit watching that ram go back and forth gets a little boring. I was noticing on that smooth bark cherry yes the young trees are smooth but have what is called pin cherry here in Michigan and it is much softer than the black cherry that you were showing. Great video Chris I'm sure some people learned something today!!. I get a kick out of you feeding those darn cats. Beech is really good wood and I have a lot of it. Something has been killing them too. Have had quite a few have the tops blow down. 4 just behind my garage. Most of what I have here is maple mostly all hard maple, ash, ironwood, cherry, and beech. There is some other stuff mixed in but that is the majority of what I have. I know where my grandparents house is almost everything there is oak and hickory. I do have a handful of black birch. Couple blew down a year and a half or so ago. Didn't get much wood from them though they weren't that good sized

Out in California, we haveba Chinese Elm they burn terrible. Smoky smells bad no coals is your elm like that? We also have a California oak thats not as good as your white oak or yellow oak. The ponderosa pine burns better then elm or cotton wood in my opinion. Our ash trees are starting to die too, i think they make great firewood. I love this video! Thank you for the education. I'm taking my skid steer and grapple tomorrow and going log fishing at my buddy's log yard. I went scouting yesterday and found a bunch of straight Ash logs, a bunch of Beech logs and a ton of Maple logs so all in all probably 4 trailer loads and some of the Maple is over 30" round (those will be staying there lol. I had my first wood snob yesterday...younger kid, first fire place and new to burning. I spent probably 15 minutes trying to educate him on everything from "legal" cord measurements vs. "truck loads" to types of wood and I thought it was a sure sale but...right now I have mostly Ash and Maple and he asked what kind of wood do I have so I said Ash, Maple and Cherry then he said no thanks I don't burn Ash, text him back why? and crickets lol

I have had some people say they don't want ash. All my mixed stuff has ash in it at least half of its ash. Usually mixed with maple, ironwood, beech, sometimes cherry. There is so much ash around here that is most of what everybody is selling lol. Ash is great firewood. Maybe he has bought some that was punky. It can get punky pretty quick. Its not like he was heating his house with the wood either he just wanted it for a fire pit and his fireplace. I can see if he was heating wanting only something like oak or locust. I have a bunch of beech and ironwood mixed though and that is really good wood if you wanted it for heat and all my maple is hard maple not soft. And its actually seasoned lol. I see so many listings for wood and the pics look like it was cut and split yesterday.

@@InTheWoodyard good idea , I’ll chip in . You might also seek assistance from your local SPCA or rescue they might be able to help with logistics like transportation. especially if you can offer a donation. They might even be able to help with a few adoptions too ! Don’t wait to long those teens mature really fast .

The turd lifter tool looks wonderful. But It's making you use different muscles, Be careful , it will be very easy to pull or strain muscles. Remember to switch hands occasionally. You ain't 24 y.o. any more.

What is so bad about the cottonwood you Americans have, everything I read people hate it
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard Год назад
It grows everywhere, it is a messy tree, it stinks like cow crap, it is very wet wood, it can be very stringy and hard to split and mostly it puts out low BTU s for heat. There are many other better wood types to put your effort into.
