Put a plate in the fridge. Mix as usual but on the plate. Due to the low temperature the reaction is slowed allowing plenty of time to get a good mix. As soon as it goes in the tooth the temperature rises. I use washed and sterile fingers. It doesn't seem to stick to skin.
Ahhh That is also good to know for the nurses! This is what I wanted the RU-vid channel to be like and to keep it interactive so new nurses can understand the difference in what goes on in different dental practices. Thank you so much for your comment xx
@@dentalnursingteachingtoolm7609 you welcome dear , i can add another purpose which is covering the material while it sets to protect it from humidity of the mouth if we are not using the rubber dam
If you buy the Chemfill GIC box it comes in 10 different shades. You can get cheaper versions which don’t come in shades or you can get premixed these days in a capsule which is light cured. It is always good to learn how to mix by hand😄
Yes agreed... with the GIC set it normally comes with a small spoon which gives you the correct amount of powder therefore this helps not having to put powder back into the bottle. (Just a note this video was made during Covid to help Dental Nurse who wasn’t in surgery unfortunately at the time the clinic are used didn’t have any spoons available)
Dear Madam i fixed one CROWN ON tooth 24 lower PFM CROWN ALL OK but due to Lab mistake its color is too white like milk & does not look nice. how to make it yellowish. I have one idea that GIC thin film to be applied on outer side as my tooth color is like GIC. Your expert opinion pls.
Hey... I think in future if a crown is the wrong colour it maybe best not to cement! and to send it back to the lab. However if there’s a gap around the crown you could definitely use GIC as long as the area is dry and it is sticking to the tooth, as it would not stick to porcelain.
I am a retired people nurse. Been up all night with a toothache. Despite taking high morphine doze l still needed the cold water rinse every few min. Less than 3hrs till surgery opens. If they can't fit me in this morning l am considering DIY. I have glass Ionomer in a drawer. I have never done a permanent filling before. But when the pain comes too much & too long l will have no problem with a spot of DIY. Many thanks for your tuition
I still think you’re best to see a dentist because if there is active decay in the tooth then you put a filling over it it’s not gonna go away but then we get worse. I really hope you get sorted. Xx
When you mix GIC and it is setting in the mouth with the saliva it can feel gritty, so if you smooth Vasoline over the top of the filling number one it helps it set with the saliva and it also helps it feel smooth.. it’s just a dental hack from what I’ve learnt over the years some dentist do this!! And if you actually bought the Chemfil material box it does have a conditioner for afterwards for the same purpose. I hope that helps with your query?
This is correct. And a spoon should always be used for the correct amounts. Please note this video is to help students understand mixing and should go through their own practice induction programme.
Pointy end of the spatula? Does it actually matter? Pay attention to the amount you actually need ! Deciduous filing. Requires small amounts ! Any decent dental nurse can judge and mix the consistency needed for the said patient ! End of the day , you just cost your practice more money with your stages crap ! Get a grip hen
