Machine mixes Mitch Lucker's vocals for "Wake Up" by Suicide Silence
NAIL THE MIX is an online mixing school created by Joey Sturgis, Joel Wanasek and Eyal Levi - the guys who produced bands like TDWP, Chelsea Grin, Blessthefall, Machine Head, Monuments, Miss May I, Of Mice & Men, Reflections, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and dozens more of this generation's best metal bands.
Every month, NAIL THE MIX members get exclusive access to the REAL MULTI-TRACK SESSIONS from a REAL ALBUM, and a 6-8 hour live streaming class from the producer who mixed it. These are the actual sessions by bands like Gojira, Meshuggah, Periphery, Papa Roach, Machine Head, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember and more - and NTM is the only place in the world you'll get access to them!

It's so cool to see Machine working on these vocals in 2023, especially after watching the behind the scenes/recording vlogs back in the day!

Interesting. So, what I've gathered from these videos over time is that the best practice is to cut a frequency range that is gross and unruly and then reintroduce it into the mix by distorting/saturating that area of the sound. Buster did it for guitar and now I'm seeing this for vocals. Great tip.

I've noticed this aswell, and as I apply it more and more to my mixes, I understand why they do it. It's a killer trick because you really want to keep that midrange or your mix will sound like shit!

I've been recording and mixing for 10 years, but I've never heard of an "insides" bus. Never watched any mixing videos with this guy though. What exactly is it? just a parallel comp bus, or something else?

This makes Vince Neil sound like the Whitney Houston of Hair singers. Right up there with Lemmy.

Can someone tell me what "total outsides" means?

After only 30 seconds of this, I'm looking for some rope and an unsteady chair.

Okay I'm very confused..... GR2 did not exist when this album came out...... SO like uhhhhhhhh is this just to show the methods used but not the exact tools used?......

the whole point of urm academy is to show how to mix music, and have the producer either remix or show how they mixed

This is him mixing the track today, not how he did it back then.

Nah ima need the see him use the analog gear he used and go through it. Not promote JST plugins for a bigger check. All respect to all parties, I love and use JST, but I wanna see some old gaurd techniques.

@@letsstartapeaceriot huh? Pro Tools existed in 2009 lol he's just using the plugin cause he likes it, they don't force people to use JST plugins
