It escapes me why someone would pay ~250.- USD when for ~300.- USD you could get a DJI Mini SE which is superior in every aspect. Better control, better range, better video quality, better battery life etc. I would recommend the MJX bugs 18 if it was priced at maybe 150.- to 200.- USD as a beginner drone but definitely not above 200! Video quality is not that bad though, even if the horizon is visibly curved...

This fills a niche for someone who is just getting started with drones I suppose but it can also discourage someone from getting into drones with all of the issues just to get the darn thing in the air! For a few dollars more the mini SE is a much better option if you can afford it. It’s what I recommend to anyone wanting to get into drones. Thanks for another great review Marcus!

Headless mode means the drone has no head, i.e. no front no back it flies as you look at it in which ever direction you push the sticks, relative to the controller so if you push the stick forward, it moves away from you. If you pull the stick backwards it moves towards you. If you push the stick right move to your right if you push the stick left it move to your left not how you would expect it to fly in normal mode

Exactly why I waited so long to purchase my first drone which was the Mavic Air 2 (recently sold). Too many inexpensive (toyish) drones that had issues. I an so happy I waited for the right time in the drone evolution to get in. Thanks Marcus for always informing the community! Like The UAS Pilot said (flying that zombie drone)... "If I duck you should too!" We will fly together someday.

Try a giro / cumpas calibration in a diferent area. There may have been a water pipe or electrical conduit below your position that throws the readings. I have experienced this with my GPS drone occasionally. I took a walk for a few meters the power cycled then calibrated. The drone flew fine.

Hi Marcus, thank you for the review. A drone like this is the purgatory that most new drone pilots must travel. After going through all the monkey motions necessary to get a budget drone flying well, the newbie pilot will just jump for joy the first time he takes a DJI drone out of the box and has a good stress free flight. MJX drones similar to the Bugs 18 used to have a controller with a display that was very useful.

I realize this drone is only $240, but it has way to many issues. I rather save up another $50 and get the DJI Mini SE. You did what you could with the BUGS 18, you should get a award for sticking with it this one. Good review Marcus, and thanks for sharing

Hi Marc and all, With the update of the X-Drone App, the maximum distance limit show as symbol unlimited. Before the update if you want get maximum range, keep the slider all in the left as default. My friend had reach 2,7km with this Bugs 18 pro.

As this is my first time flying a drone, I purchased the Mjx Bugs 18pro drone. The results are satisfactory, and I enjoy it. Perhaps the next time, I'll purchase the SJRC F22 F22S 4K PRO.

Marcus, another great review. Although the camera probably isn’t as good as the DJI cameras, I did like the way the tree and houses looked on the photographs you took. I see you decided not to try ATTI mode …. I have a Mini 2 so cant try that… it would be really interesting to see what a drone behaves like in that mode :)

I never had toilet bowl issues on my earlier bugs. That's one thing I did not like about the bugs is the way it returned to home. Also older versions of that app used to show speed.

I know they claim long range but the drone is not capable of that in reality.

Hi Marcus. DJI must love it when you make these ‘competition’ videos! Another great DJI marketing piece. Why would anyone bother with something that is just going to frustrate the hell out of them. A very poor user experience and really, who wants that?

Very entertaining video! The bargain price for this starter drone is right, as is the "package". Not crazy about its low-level erratic movements and onerous stalking qualities. Ugh, these darn Wi-Fi apps are enough to make me not want to review these cheaper GPS drones. I hate when the app disconnects or the Wi-Fi disconnects and the app acts up and you have to land and power cycle everything. It happens to me so often that it drives me nuts. Of course MJX wants you to bind the controller before your first flight but then again it doesn't always need to be done. It seems they added more steps to the bind process now. I think it used to be that you simply held down the motor unlock button then turn on the controller power. I'm not sure what to think of this drone. The recorded video looked good on my phone and the gimbal seems to work well but the drone is so unstable at times. It seems awful at holding position. It seems to have a poorly tuned flight controller though it also seems at times to toilet bowl like it has bad compass offsets. In the end it isn't worth the risk when for $50 more you can get the Mini SE and have no worries! Lol. Great comprehensive review as always Marcus!

MAIN RULE: First power on the remote, then the app, then the drone. This makes the drone connect faster to the remote and to the phone, because it is Wifi. To power off: first power off the drone, then the app, then the remote. Just to have a kind of security.

Marcus- enjoy your content. But this drone is just a mess. Understand in the price range, it is one of the better ones. My first drone was one of these. Luckily got it on Amazon- after 2 hours of attempts- returned. Now on my 5th UAV- 3 DJI and 2 Autel. Great hobby!!!
