When in doubt if an aftermarket head unit will drive your VW factory sound system, my best bet is to look for a Blaupunkt unit havng the same mini connectors. VW head units were Blaupunkt designs at that time and they have a very good chance to control preamps and all speakers.
1st of all you are under powering the OEM amplifier which can blow it. 2nd of all you bought the wrong harness your car has bose which is fully amplified you bought a harness that is for half amplified Audi's. 3rd the red wire goes to the fuse box it's an ignition wire not constant power source.

Thank you! My radio worked but restarted every time I shut of the ignition, furthermore, it drained the battery while the car was off. Hopefully this will solve it

Hi, all front and rear speakers work as they should. The front/back fade and left/right balance are also working. I hate to say it but I think this cheap radio is better quality than the original. I am now looking at completely bypassing the Bose amp and only using the aftermarket radio. If I do, I’ll do a video and post a link.
Only thing you should of done different is piggy back a switched live from fuse board to yellow cable instead if read and conected blue to that aswell then it would switch of with your ignition to save your battery incase you forget to turn off.other than that nice video well done
