That’s bc Kuai Liang himself is a great warrior regardless who he is. Even as Sub Zero in all the previous games he was an impressive fighter and got power boosts that made him even stronger. He’s clearly the better fighter between him and Bi Han but he respects Bi Han as an older brother and follows him until his betrayal

Shao literally gets beat up by any random in the story so not that surprised.. Also in this timeline outworld keeps losing to earthrealm in tourneys

All Lin Kuei ninjas have some sort of magical ability or control over some aspect of nature. just like Naruto. it's ninjutsu in some ways

In this timeline they aren’t descended from a cryomancer race from outworld, magic seems to be something that can be taught to others in the New Era so anyone with the right training can master almost any power they desire. This time Bi Han and Kuai Liang are part of the leading family of the Lin Kuei and Kuai Liang chose to master fire while his brother chose ice. It’s explained a little more in intros but basically bc Kuai Liang is a better fighter he was taught pyromancy and it runs in the family like cryomancy
