I admire the ending Rambo had. He didn't want to have power and control over the fates of billions of beings. He just wanted to live in peace and be left alone. It's all he ever wanted, after everything he's been through.

4:33 So I’d like to ask, what is technically “sparing” a character? Like is it not doing the fatality or is it like this, when Rambo doesn’t drive the knife in him? Do you kill the fighter when you don’t do a fatality and simply hit them or let them fall? Why am I asking this when it’s very clear that not performing a fatality spares a character?

As I understand it fatalities are optional things you can do if you perform a set of button combos in the right order. Same with brutalities, how those need a particular button combo and a particular set of additional criteria. If you do neither and wait the opponent will just fall over and you’ll get one of those standard victory screens.
