We ended up buying this Astra as it turned up right round the corner and would otherwise have ended up scrapped or banger raced. It would hardly even run at all, so the first job is to get it to run half decent then get it to the garage.
Love your channel. Very inspiring content. Found it whilst researching mild mechanical jobs to carry out on my 2005 Corsa. Got it given to me for free off a mates dad who owned it from new. Only 65k miles on it. Given it a new exhaust, discs drums and pads all round as well as full and complete service. All from RU-vid videos. Thankyou very much for all your videos which are awesome.
little astra sounds like a tuned Mazda rx7 on idle... awsome.... you want see my mums corsa d in a morning.... you have damp.....nooooooo excellent and fun vid... and we love bob.... N x
Nice to see an Astra Mk3 with lovely rear arches, well worth saving. The 1.4 premier was quite a popular special edition. I'd hope that the underneath is in reasonable condition, giving how tidy the rest of the car is.
Thats amazing a car thats like near 30 years old driving that well , not surprised if the head gasket is leaking thoug given the age but thats an easy job for a trained mechanic £80 for a gasket and few hours labour , anyway well done Dougie
My brother had N reg Astra 1.4 GLS in gold he had for 18 years he covered 210.000 miles my nephew is an HGV mechanic and he kept it going for him but one time a went visiting him in London we went out shopping in his car and it started over heating my nephew told him the head gasket and gone he did have a go at having it skimmed but after a few days it went again I said you have had your moneys worth out of the car so he scraped it I have a 2015 Astra 1.6 diesel j just before Christmas the service the car light came on and it had only just been done after my garage check it on the computer in needs a glow plug which cost £180 because of the pressure sensor is a good job I don’t pay any road tax but that is probably down to the pressure sensors helping to meter the fuel levels
There is some chap who knocks around Wednesbury in an R-reg one of these. Seems like one day these were everywhere and then they weren't like they all went before their time. Which never made sense to me given how simple they are. Nice little fix it up. Shame if it went in the scrap given how little there is to go wrong with it.
These basic models was absolutely brilliant. I have not seen one for years. That color was very popular back in the day. I hope this one can be saved and go back on the road
Brings back memories of the 90s family LS 1.7D Turbo estate in exactly the same colour. Ten a penny back in the day. I wonder why although common place at the time, diesel Cavs and Astras are hard to come by now? High milage daily’s driven in to the ground, perceived undesirability over petrol equivalents as future classic decisions or sooty clogged messes, sent to the scrapper? Otherwise, keep up the great work Dougie and Co - all the best for 2024!
First car was one of these . Flame red 3 door merit on a L reg . Ended up chucking all the parts off a gsi on it and made a nice we replica . Great wee cars . Nice one Dougie
A delightful vehicle indeed ! Great colour, my friend had a posh Diesel one of those… written off in an urban head-on… got a black Mk4 1.6 petrol to replace it… Hope it gets refreshed and resurrected !
My husband loves your videos. He loves his old vauxhalls too. He has a 1.4 8v mk 3 astra that takes pride in our garage 😊 he is wondering if your willing to sell the long bolt for the bracket at the back of the alternator? Hes desperate for a replacement for his 🙈
I had a mk3 1.4, N reg 1995. It used to mist up really easy inside even with the fan heater on. One night on the M8, every window misted up instantly! That was a heart stopping moment. I always thought the side air vents were too low in the dash to effectively clear the side windows. Other than that and needing a new sump gasket it was fairly reliable.
Also the new Vauxhall astra is great fun . The wife has one in Cobalt blue but we have a limited edition without the black roof . We get amazing funny looks as we pass other ones with the black roof and the faces are like how you got that ??? 😂
British Racing Green/Forrest Green..nice colour...Hi-Torq...82BHP...pokey/efficient...(I've known two see 200k and still going)....bodywork/paintwork looks tidy....shame about a lack of rev counter....Deffo worth considering keeping as a tidy runaround..(in my opinion)..lovely colour.
Love this i have a 1.4i expression the same colour on a r reg absolutely brilliant car used daily for 11 years and only failedot on 2 small holes in the sill just not got round to fixing yet and ulez means cant use anymore
I used to drive these and vectras back when I worked for a car hire way back when these were new. The 2.0 16v astras were pretty rapid. I had to take a 2.5 vectra to Leeds to pick up a car that was coming onto our fleet of cars it happened to be a 2.0 cdx with 8 miles on the clock. Done it in 3 and a half hours!! Was a lot different than today as there’s Camaras everywhere now but I was doing 130-150 a lot of the way. I took my mate and his girlfriend she was reading a book at 150 lol she got a fright when she got told the speed we were doing lol.
I actually don’t like Vauxhalls but like your channel so have strangely became interested in them.lol I had a 9-5 aero and am a bit of an expert in them but your projects are always good on here.Keep up the good work.
Scottie The Astra Man, a new name for the channel maybe. If it's not too rusty underneath Dougie, it could turn out to be a very nice car due to its rarity nowadays.
I had a 92 1.7td isuzu diesel bulletproof bodywork was the real reason it went and gearbox seized in neutral. 😅 my last astra an 05 solid body but they were galvanized I think again a 1.7cdti not as reliable as the older one though.
I always thought the MK3 hatch was a good looking car and Rio Verde was a cracking colour. My friend had a Blue Astra Premier that i think had (broken) air con and it always smelled damp and misted up. I have a horrible feeling, given what you've said about the bulkhead and exhaust, this could be rotten underneath. Would love to be proved wrong though
That would be a great 1st car for my laddie m8 . Providing it doesn't need any huge welding work and half a rebuild lol 😂 but I see a future great car saved from the great scrap man in the sky as my dad used to say 😂😂
@@mikey3627 going to strip some stuff off it and fill it with the mountain of scrap at the garage. When you see the next video you'll see why it's not viable to fix it.
Love a good old mk3 5d astra had few over years last 1 was red 5d 1.6 8v on p plate or r ....was slow as on motorway tbh ....my old pineapple yellow 5d astra 2lt 8v was lot better and fun to drive.....I know of a 5d pineapple yellow astra sitting in driveway local to me Yours looks clean on top hopefully underneath at to bad.....I have 2 coil pack things for them and 2 new center pipes as well
The “hi torq” engine name was actually the lower output 1.4 60ps the 82 ps was MPi I was Vauxhall sales exec 95-98 and didn’t like the 60ps engine as felt underpowered but some of them were fine - generally If no 1.4 badge or electric windows was the 60ps as LS spec had both options available before the 82ps was replaced by SPi 1.6 for emmison reasons
