The best & most robust cars I've ever driven. I travel 35k each year & I've had my MK4 Titanium 140 for 5 years. Bought at 99,000 miles. The most robust & reliable as well as cost effective car I have ever owned.
@@ln5747 Yes. Just had another set of Bridgestone tyres put on. I have sensor fault somewhere as the engine management light is on. Been checked at my local garage that the car is fine. Shall all be sorted in May prior to the MOT.
@@simonlawrence5313 I can't drive manuals now after having an auto, auto is just much more relaxing. So my concerns with Powershift reliability is ruling out the Mondeo. Shame as they are such good value for money otherwise.
i have a 2008 Mondeo mk4 2.0 tdi automatic as my first car it has 240000km and it still drives perfect and it is really fun to drive it is the perfect mix beetwen spacious and sportive car
I love my 2012 Mondeo 2.0 tdci titanium x estate. It’s got 236k miles on it and still puts a smile on my face when I drive it. It is the epitome of style and luxury for a budget price :)
So glad to read this Daniel, just had to buy a replacement car on budget yesterday due to fiesta being written off and wanted back to a roomy reliable ford so got a 2010 titanium X Mondeo ,yes it,s got 100k but looks immaculate and can't wait to drive it 👍
@@andyskinner7163 im getting mine Tuesday. 2013 for mondeo titanium. 156k on it which is steep but fully serviced and well looked after (know the previous owner)
@@oioi-skank8547 hi mate, well i,m a few miles in now and gotta say so far it,s one of the best cars i,ve owned.for me it has tons room for my two dogs, plenty torque to get down road for a bigger car and pretty damn good spec as well.i tell you this.it,s getting the timing belt done soon and i,m gonna try and drive it till i,m retired 😀👍
@@andyskinner7163 ahh nice one buddy hearing that fills me with confidence 👍. I had the 2.2 mazda 6 beforehand which done me well. Roll on Tuesday. Also good to hear about the space as the dog comes along with me camping on the weekends
Just do the maintenance! With the dual clutch, If the oil changes are neglected, sludge from the clutch plates will start to cause sticky solenoids, which can cause jerry clutch operation. THAT will break up the damper spring retainers, putting shards of plastic through the box. Once that happens it's not long till it stops working. So do the oil changes! DIY too, because there's a procedure to it, (it's on RU-vid) and many service centres don't do it right.
I have had a mk4 2.0 diesel for 8 months now and at 237,000 miles on the clock it's given me no trouble at all, returning around 700 to 800 miles per tank mainly motorway driving, drives without fault. Ride, handling and all the acceleration you need from a large family saloon. Would by another in a heart beat.
Great video! I always loved the Mondeos. In fact I still have a 05 Mk3 and it still drives like new with 91k, and hasn't cost me a bean in repairs other than tyres, battery (still on only it's second) and a pair of coil springs. In fact it still has the original exhaust! And the a/c is icy cold - never needed to re-gas! Well built cars indeed.
Every 2 years. The reason every 2 years for the ac service is the receiver drier which will be full of mould and debris, that and the fact by law whenever the compressor circuit is opened, the refrigerant needs to be emptied and refilled with new stuff. EPA law and all that.
these are, without doubt in my mind, the best family cars ever made. far more practical real world than any SUV because you dont have to lift heavy stuff too high to load them into the car, younger kids can get in and out by themselves rather than needing a lift into the car/stepladder, better fuel economy and handling than an SUV with equivalent ride quality, amazingly comfortable, economical, big boot for all the family stuff/for holidays etc. shame people hadnt realised this sooner as the last EVER mondeo (for Europe at least, it will live on for the Chinese market ONLY i believe in mk6 form) came of the production line in March 2022. i have had them all except the mk3, but i have driven loads of examples of them so know them well enough to comment on also. had i written this comment 3 days ago, i still owned my mk4 facelift, a car which i had owned for 7 years with no issues, however i saw a newer car in a used car dealers and fell in love with that so went and bought it. the replacement? a mk5 Mondeo! its almost like when Tony Blair coined the phrase 'mondeo man' he had someone like me in mind!
I was never a ford fan until I got a mk 4 mondeo and wow what a motor......great handing and smooth ride at the same time! Gearbox is great The peugeot diesel is very reliable the only negative is the interior carpet is cheap and everything clings to it.
Always liked fords but ripped into a mate when he first got his mk4 mondeo, he let me drive it and now i own one identical to his! 2.2 has plenty of tourqe and being top spec it has the half leather etc. Absolutely brilliant car a great drive and ill be keeping it for a long time yet
Well done - a well made video for the 'proper car' crowd! I have owned a Mondeo Mk3 and now Mk4 all fantastic - pocket money for a lot of car! Why buy anything else for a competent all rounder?
Well, I've just bought a 2010 plate 2.O Titanium X TCDI with 85000 on the clock. Only had it a few days but crikey! What a lovely car. Drives beautifully and feels tight and solid like a car 10 years younger. I'm impressed.
Great stuff. I've had the 2.5T petrol version (same engine as a Focus ST), for a few years now (maybe 5, 6?). It's a lot thirstier than the diesel (270-280 miles around town on a 70ltr tank but up to 500 miles on the motorway). One thing is that most are not saloons, they are hatchbacks (as mine is), but with an extended shape that looks almost coupe / saloonesque. I like that. Reminds me of the older Mondeo and Sierra hatchbacks from whence it came. The Saloon doesn't look quite as nice imho, lacking the drama of the long boot of a Sapphire for example, that really set it apart from the hatchback Sierra. Also put a silhouette of the Mondeo MK4 hatchback alongside a Jaguar XF and there's very little difference in it! They do have cavernous hatches though! You can fit a lot in them, more so with the seats down. I've moved a fridge in one before. That said, they do come in estate guise too, should you want the extra boot height, as the hatchback suffers from that somewhat when loads get really full.
Have a 2.5T one. Have spent a lot on repairs at 100k miles, approximately 1500 pounds. With age comes problems and would hate to know what a new exhaust system would be with two catalysts on my car. Saying that she drives beautifully and is a motorway cruiser that still goes like a whippet around a track.
What a lovely video I do love my 2012 2.0 diesel titanium x sport I think there hard to beat for the price and spec to its German rivals and there more cheaper on parts and a hell of a lot more reliable I'm absolutely gutted that Ford has stopped the mondeo
They had to stop it since saloons/ saloons like looking hatchbacks in general are not in fashion anymore among general public. Sales have been too low in recent years to keep Mondeo alive. I agree that latest Mondeo generation is one of the best looking large, yet affordable saloon/ hatchback on roads. Design is brilliant.
My mk3 diesel packed in at 170k but had given me years trouble free. My "new" 10 yr old mk4 petrol with 50k on it is doing a fine job so far, 18 months later.
Another year gone and it got through MOT with minimum fuss. I do like it and respect it, but I also miss my old motor. Sent to China and baled and who knows what it was turned into. I suppose it got to live other lives.
I'm currently driving an Audi A3 30tfsi Sport as a hire car and it isn't a patch on my mk4.5 2.0tdci Titanium X or my wifes mk4 2.0 ecoboost Titanium X Sport
It surprises me that a very nice looking cars like the Ford Mondeo MK4 and MK5, aren't the number one choice of favourite family cars. The beautiful looking MK5 Mondeo is the worst less loved Mondeo because you can hardly find them on UK roads, which is a shame. Many people rather choose the Vauxhall Insignia, which as far as I am concerned is not a better car than the Mondeo
Honestly I've never been so unimpressed as when I first drove the Insignia. Loveless to drive as very soft and wooly. Also thr interior and touchpoints are all cheap and not very user friendly at the least. Mondeo is leagues above in my opinion.
I had a 2011 Mondeo 1.6 diesel. I bought it as a 8 month old car with 1500 miles on the clock as it was a demo car. I kind of regret selling after 2 years ownership of it. Especially when I just done a MOT check on it and on its last MOT it had covered 200k miles. Only bad thing I could say about it the air conditioning could never get ice cold. Even after having it regassed. But in the time I had it. It never had any issue.
I chose 2010 Ford Mondeo Edge 2L TDCi 138 horse power with automatic transmission as my first car 2 years ago. Found it on Autotrader for £2995. Pristine condition of interior, no scratches on body, just general wear and tear you can expect from 10 years old car. I absolutely love it! Very unique Thunder Metallic colour [ something between grey and blue. Lovely, conservative, yet not boring. I love the car`s conservative design outside and inside. In past 2 years it needed some repairs and about £1500 spent on them so far. I give it a love and it serves well. Now with many new parts it drives better then when I bought it and mechanics said that it still looks solid underneath, so many more years of life left in it. May well keep it for another 5+ years. Interesting fact is that everyone seems to like it. It is simply likeable car on first sight. Conservative, elegant, solid and comfortable and large. When it comes to fuel economy one could not ask for more. If you drive for comfort and pleasure instead of dynamic style, you get 60+ mpg easily. Here is the receipt: High quality engine oil, fresh transmission fluid, tyres inflated to 32-34 psi, engage cruise control, run it at 60 mph at 1800 rpm. Cruise it leisurely like Jay Leno. Get 750-820 miles on full tank.
Make sure transmission oil is changed every 37k needs to be correct oil and filters, ford charge about £250 for it....but it will save the transmission. Correct oil is an absolute must.
@@stevenking2946 Thanks, Steven. Transmission fluid was changed in garage specialising in transmitions 1 year ago. They had transmissions shelved all around on racking so I guess that they know what they are doing. Yes, it did cost £250. And yes, they said the same- to optimally change fluid every 2 years. I do 15 000 miles a year, so 2- 3 years fluid change intervals sounds about right.
@@wonderwalls3565 Yes, after 120 000 miles in 2022. They told me that the new one will be good for another 120 000 miles or 120 months [ whichever comes first ].
Great car, the petrol 2 litre versions avoided many of the diesel problems and are in high demand now. So much high class for the money. They never did that again to such high effect.
Totaly AGREE IV OWN 2 MONDAO'S MK3 AND NOW MK 4 LUXURY IN SIDE AND OUT GREAT PERFORMANCE. IV USE BOTH MY 2 LT PETROLS FOR TOWING MY CARAVAN MY GERMAN SHEPARD IN THE BACK OF THE HATCH ME AND THE WIFE UP FRONT AND YOU HARDLY NO THE VANS ON THE BACK . AND WE HAVE TRAVELLED TO TOP OF SCOTLAND AND TO BOTTOM OF CORNWALL. THERE ROAD HANDLING IS SUPERB. BEFORE I RETIRED I DROVE ALL SORTS OF CARS MOST OF THEM WHERE BRAN NEW . BUT THE MONDAO WAS IN THE TOP 5 FANTASTIC CAR.
Got a face lift estate TXS version with at present 157k and I rate it extremely highly. I don't know what I'm going to replace it with. Suppose I could get a Mk5 but despite looking similar in the interior I don't think it looks as good as the Mk4 exterior wise. The only benefit to me would be Mk 5 can be had with LED headlights.
Buy one Douglas seriously . They are a fab car. For comfort , motorway performance and low running costs they can't be beaten. I travel 40k a year in a MK 4
They're still great to drive, have really nice steering feel are roomy and comfortable and excellent value. The diesels have amazing open road economy, rivalling far more expensive hybrids.
My mother has a 2.0 ecoboost titanium x sport mondeo with the powershift transmission, 150k and needed nothing apart from gearbox oil changes at the correct intervals....also had the 2.0 tdci powershift again 150k+ miles with only correct servicing.....
@@justinturner4067 I would recommend it, but also say that full history of gearbox oil changes every 37 to 40k miles are a must....needs to be done with the correct oil and filter, ford's want around £250 to £300 to do.
I currently drive a MK1 skoda fabia vrs. It's on 220k miles. It's alright to drive but. The fact I can pick a Mondeo Titanium X up for £2k. With cruise control, heated seats. It suits me better for the sort of driving I do.
Hello. Does the Ford Mondeo mk4 make a lot of noise inside the car while driving? sounds like it in the video. From what I have read, Ford mobdeo mk4 2012 is only right inside good on noise but nothing better than that. 70db and more in 100kmh is too much. Mondeo 2012 measured 66db in 100kmh on a test I read.
I own a 2011 titanium 2.0 TDCI hatchback, by far the best car I've owned only done 72k and still worth around £3500 but I'm gonna keep her n run her til she dies
The mk4's have some really ridiculous faults but despite repairing it here and there I still love the looks of it and how it drives. I have the hatch 2007 1.8tdci that has lynx engine (yes it has a chain) but I would love a 2.5T hatch :-)
@@CarSoul I’m sure they do an old Ford focus combo van but I think it’s in Ireland 🇮🇪 went to Dublin quite a few years ago and saw a 52 plate focus with southern Ireland numberplates in red and where the rear windows were it was panels It looks well good
I love my mk4 Mondeo. Only thing that bugs me is the stupid ABS problems these cars are plagued with. It's expensive to fix and a headache to diagnose.
The only thing that puts me off is that it (like the MK3) has the most uncomfortable seats in motoring history, at least for me anyway. I've been driving a MK3 Tit x for the past three yrs and have never found a comfortable driving position, the first three months of ownership my back and shoulders felt like they had been trampled on by a horse. My first long journey had me nearly in tears at the thought of having to drive it home again, several stops had to be made both ways. I believe it is due to the so called lumbar support, which (for me) is too high up forcing my shoulders forward, I have to constantly remind myself to push my shoulders back so as to not end up (by the end of my journey) hunched over the steering wheel like someone twice my age. I drove a BMW E39 M sport for the ten years prior to the MK3 which was impossible to find an uncomfortable driving position. I'm not trying to compare it to a German car because that It will never be, not by a long shot, but for me it could be so much more if they had just sorted the seats out. Reading through forums it would appear I'm not alone, the seats seem to be like Marmite. I would not buy the MK4 for this reason alone, which is a shame because I like the overall design, but I fear ending up like the hunchback of Notre Dame.
@@Dan_Cartlidge same. Even coming from a old toyota the pedals are too close and when you adjust the seat the wheel is not close enough. Also seats feel like they are made for short people or something. Still like the car overall.
Is it worth buying in 2021/2? All depends on the price! I've owned 2 MK4's in the past 3 years (both 2.5T), one Titanium X and now own a Titanium X Sport and they are comfy, sophisticated, drive very nicely and very spacious. I personally wouldn't go near the base/basic models, but from Titanium X up, either 2.2 diesel or 2.5T, I would recommend... if the price is right.😉
Привет бро!!!! У нас в России спорт очень редкая машина ,на сайте объявлений продаётся 1 машина в год, но эта крутая машина я её люблю у меня такая как на видео, только 2.0 турбо 240 лс
Brilliant cars had a new one in 2008 as a company car and abused it for 2 years. Put 120,000 on it in that time and it didn’t put a foot wrong. Bought another 2009 titanium with 40,000 on the clock from a retired guy a few years ago as I went self employed and use it as my daily works car now.
I'm winning 1 at auction at moment hopefully win it but needs a couple of bits doing it's a black 2.0 titanium x tdci 2007 what's it worth anyone know has 3 owners and 153k on it full history.
My 2012 Mazda6 has the same airvents for the outsides of the dashboard. In the middle it's a plastic Mazda own design. I like Mondeo, it was just the Mazda6 handling that sold me on it. What I don't like about the Mazda is the intrusive road noise. It's tiresome and I've put up with it for ten years now.
I can understand that owning the 2.2 mk4 X sport with sunroof, electric seats, xenons, integrated cornering lights & heated windscreen. Chiptuned to 203 hp & 470 Nm doing 7liter per 100 km it is still a fun car after 13 years.
Thanks for the good videos. I have driven my way through 5 Mondeo cars in 22 years. I love the MK3 but my latest one, MK4 2010 Ecoboost 50000 miler has been the biggest pain ever and I hate it. Gearbox takes about 2-3 seconds to engage 1st which leaves you stranded at junctions, it does this in spite of the £350 3 yearly gearbox oil changes... and even holds reverse with the stick in drive if you catch it right... the car proceeds in opposite direction to that indicated and selected by the stick. The car is too big and wide, awful visibility with crap bloated handling with no steering feel at all. The most unreliable of all the ones I have had. Two brand new throttle bodies in 20k miles, Numerous spurious error messages from the over keen computer including thinking the nearly new battery is flat all the time when it isn't because the Ford software engineer set the level wrong(!) Yes, I hate my Mondeo, basically it failed it's MOT today on that damn stupid adaptive headlight leveller and it going to cost £550 for a new headlight because you can't replace the leveller module and I can't find a used one anywhere... did I mention my knackered rear swing arm bushes that cost a fortune to replace. Do you want to buy a Mondeo? 🙂
Unlucky. I have an mk3 which is good, but I also test drove an mk4. The mk4 certanly was better to drive. And reliablity records are also on average better.
If well looked after yes. I’ve got a 1.6 edge 62 plate with 204,000 miles and still runs perfectly. I use it as a cab and will prob trade it in when the cam belt is due at 250,000 miles. Having had it since 98k I’d say the down points are some of the trim is a bit flimsy and the front pillars cause blind spots which can catch you out. I’ll be sorry to see mine go when the time comes.
I have the 2013 model of the this exact car and drive like an old man. I get a max of 39mpg, driving mostly at 69mph on motorway. Definitely nothing like 50mpg!
@@oioi-skank8547 My mate also has the same car & gets a similar mpg. Also seems comparable to what you find when you search the web; the mk4 Mondeo Sport is a fuel guzzler.
@@professionalprocrastinator8182 fair enough bud i wasnt sure what model you meant, hope your well bud. I just picked up the titanium x yesterday, so far its a lovely drive, find the steering really light tho
Have a 2010 2 litre tdci titanium, bought it 6 months ago from my mechanic, it was his own car, he felt sorry for me bringing my 2006 1.6 petrol avensis to him every week with some problem or other and spending a small fortune to keep it running. The ford is a miser on fuel if driven sensibly but also a hell of a lot of fun if you want to Bury the pedal in the floor. I would honestly keep it forever if it ran forever, but sadly the climate change agenda will put it off the road permanently in the next 5 years I imagine. Great car, I wouldn't accept a brand new m5 as a replacement if someone offered, I had one, they're dirt.
biggest test of a car is to use them as a taxi. theres a guy on youtube does just that (or works for the firm repairing the taxis) and he says they give very little trouble at all. within the last couple of days i have just traded my mk4 facelift Zetec diesel in for a mk5 ST line X diesel and i do not regret it for one second
