Yeah it is cold out 🥶, I'll be honest the turbo flutter I got after fitting the revG might be from the loose connector (as I broke the plastic). I'll fix it and give an update! More content coming 👊🏼
Looks like I'm ordering a REV G online after your great review [I own a Mk5 Gti - Australia] and have subscribed to see what other interesting and related vids you have... TY.
I just put genuine GFB DV+ in my Mk5 and never looked back. Sure, I need to lube it every now and then, but that's done anyway at the same time when I change oils, so it's no biggie. It's awesome :) Soon I'll be doing stage 2 for my Mk5 so should work well with that too. No more thinking if seals or plastics crack on those stock DVs.
You are right, stock DVs are a nightmare, I'm hoping the RevG lasts on mine or might have to look into the DV+ (this is the second comment that's mentioned it). Good luck with stage 2 💪🏽
@@HimiJ Thanks. Yeah worth checking it out. Many suggested in Facebooks GTI Mk5 group and the install was just as easy as any DV replacement (obviously) and it does feel more responsive, even if only ever so slightly. But the main thing was that it's supposed to be pretty much bullet proof when maintained. If you're going to get one, make sure it's the genuine one and not one of those replicas Ebay is littered with. I ordered mine straight from GFB website to be sure :D
Even the GFB DV you have to service from time to time... The D are stronger but leak air. The G feels better but will eventually break especially if you are tuned.
@@laurentl2275 That is correct, gotta do some maintenance with DV+. I do it each time I change oils, since I'm under there anyway and it takes just few minutes to relube it 😊
I hope you enjoyed the video! Comment below what DV valve you guys are using and what one you've found best. The video shows my experience, let me know what you guys think, I know a lot of people run the Rev D with no problems. *UPDATE* The loose connector was causing the turbo flutter (compressor surge). The rev g doesn't cause flutter as the video shows on the final motorway run, it must've loosened off by that point.
Yeah that's the exact reason I also had the Rev D fitted, as they aren't meant to fail. So far mine runs better on the rev G 🤷🏽♂️. I've heard good and bad on both sides. Thanks for the comment 👊🏼.
Hey mate, just came across your channel a couple of days ago, got a lot of ur content to catch up on 😁👍🏻 great Vids! I'm recording content shortly on a rev D Vs a GFB DV+, similar to this, will see if my OBDeleven can log the boost for me. I'll drop a mention of this vid if that's ok, on the 1st upgrade to make from a D to a rev G. The GFB's are a bit pricey.
Thanks for watching, definitely be interesting to see another comparison, yeah feel free to drop a mention. Look forward to seeing it - all the best 👊🏼
@@HimiJ hey mate, hope ur good. Just letting you know I have positive feedback on the GFB DV+ so far. So many mixed opinions on them (arguments sometimes 🤣) anyway, excellent mod so far, but I'll be open and provide any vid updates if it causes issues later on 👍🏻
Thanks 👊🏼, I bought mine from Crewe Audi (on eBay) and it cost £50 delivered. TPS also sells them, there's another website that had them for £50 delivered, I'll try and find it and add the link to the description!
@@HimiJ thank you very much. I did have it changed then it was remapped and they gave me the old one back in the new box and the code on the box was correct BUT he only charged me £72 thats including fitting so I think he he might have fitted a cheep one
How it kepp boost with rev G in high rpm , after 5000rpm??? Better than rev D ? I had golf mkv gti stg2+ ( f23t turbo , hpfp upgrade s3 injectors etc ) , turbo req is 1.55 and 1.45 until redline , but after 5000rpm boost go in down .... 1.1bar @6000rpn ....i have REV D ...
I fitted the rev d new when I first got car and seemed to work well. The car was mapped to stage 1 with the rev d and dyno'd in at 250bhp... I only started having power loss later down the line ... so doesnt seem to be a case of the rev d is always bad 🤔
Hi mate been following the channel for a while now, was just wondering as your car is stage 2 and manual do you get any slip from the clutch, as it's running almost 100 FT-LB of torque more than stock.
Right now I don't have any slip, pretty sure it's the stock clutch on 110k miles was standard most of its life. I've read up a bit on the clutch on "TFSI Tuning" on facebook, it seems to be a bit luck tbh. Some people get clutch slip running around 300 ft lbs and others are running say 340 ft lbs with no problems 🤷🏽♂️. Clutch is what's holding me back from going to stage 2+ as it is expensive to get done.
Appreciate the comment 👊🏼 Probably easier to keep and replace with the latest revision, another option is to run a catch can but can be pricey. I'd say avoid a delete plate that doesn't include a catch can (seen a lot of owners having issues after fitting delete plates).
I recognised the plate because its owned by one of the tuners at EcoTune (I couldn't remember his name at the time) - I'm pretty sure it a development car as well so it's highly tuned - you can find the owner Tony on Instagram @T88BOL , I don't know him personally but seems like a top guy..
Sent here by tbol. Lol. Nice car buy please just call it revision instead of rev, it just gets annoying 😀. 100% replacing your valve is the way to go. The whole point in newer revisions is that they fix issues or replace due to newer design ideas.
REF D leak like a sieve. It REQUIRES boost to make it seal tight, so when the revs are low and the boost is low you don't get it to seal. You know all this now since it was 2 years now. hah.
Do you have a spacer also? And do you here hissing when at full throttle? because when I added a spacer mine hisses before dumping would that be a leak do you think or just how it works with a spacer
😯, is your car tuned. That's the downside of the RevG it will eventually fail - but 3 months is crazy, could be worth looking into the DV+. I don't know much about them, but a few people have mentioned them in the comments.
@@HimiJ I’m not too sure if it’s tuned when I first put it on it pulled well now between 2k to 3k revs it’s like air is escaping sounds good when shifting but the boost leak is killing the power low down
They all fail. Rev G is more suitable on K03 it gives slightly better performance, on K04 I would suggest rev D as it is stronger than all diagphram valves. All dv valve would eventually fail not only because the tune but also on stock map due to their location on the turbo, it is getting really hot there. If you remove passenger wheel, wheel liner it is easier to work on them.
Not used one so don't have any personal experience. From what I've read it's a split, some people love them while others don't (from posts on TFSI tuning). There's various reasons on either side of the argument, I'd say just find whatever one works best for your car. Personally I lean towards the RevG given the price and it being an oem part, but that being said I'd invest in a GFB if I found my car kept splitting RevGs. Another RU-vidr "North Coast Workshop" fitted one to replace his RevD, could be worth checking his video out.
@@HimiJ mine is probably faulty so I got it booked at the garage next week. I'm wondering if I should order a GFB valve or not. Like you said I'm tempted of just leaving it as it is and order a GFB if I split the new one. Do you know if you have to ask for the G revision or is that the only one they stock at Volkswagen nowadays?
The confusing thing is I don't think Volkswagen stock the RevG, when I first got my car I went to Volkswagen and asked for the latest DV and they gave me a RevD (this was 2018). Coverdale is a good place to buy a RevG, awesomeGTI is another option but they charge a lot for postage: www.coverdalecarparts.co.uk/product-page/rev-g-dv-06f145710g If your cars stock I'd say just go with the RevG, it shouldn't split again for a long time on a stock car. Completely up to you what to go for, good luck!
@@HimiJ my car is stock at the moment but I'm planning on going for a stage 1 remap once that's all fixed up. That's lucky I asked you what they stock at the dealer because I was just going to drop it off and let the garage sort it out. Now I'm going to have to make some calls to get the right part on time. Are you still on standard brakes? My car is standard and I feel like the brakes aren't very good. I'm wondering what it'll feel like with more power. To be fair I have an A3 quattro so maybe a little heavier than your car
Yes I'm still on standard brakes, I agree they aren't the best, once tuned ideally you do want to upgrade your brakes but they are fine for day to day road use. I'm sure Mk7 Golf R brakes and Mk7 GTI performance pack brakes fit across VAG cars as an upgrade. Could be worth getting your brakes bled, they're meant to be done every two years.
