FOR B7 PASSAT OWNERS, WE DONT HAVE SCREWS HOLDING THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITH ON, INSTEAD THERE ARE 3 CLIPS, 2 ON THE BACK OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE SND ONE ON THE BOTTOM. THIS VIDEO HELPED A LOT.
I need to replace my turn signal switch in my 13’ Jetta SE. I’ve been searching for months. And now I find this. Thank you. Just saved so much money and time
I really appreciate that you took the time to make this video! You effectively render these projects "un-intimidating" and inspire me to do the work myself! I just have to gather the right tools...damn all those torx, triple squares etc...
Thanks Falconer. I was searching and searching just like you. I could not find anything. Then I found your video under 'steering column replacement'. I was searching under 'Windshield Wiper Switch Replacement'. After a deep freeze that lasted about one week, my windshield washer motor stopped working and my wipers started acting very funky. I have the 2013 Jetta Sportwagon. When I pull the lever to wash the front windshield, the rear wiper swipes along with the normal front wipers swiping twice. When I push the lever to activate the rear wiper wash, the rear wiper swipes and the front wipers swipe twice like I was washing the front windshield (pulling the lever). Very odd! I have traced it back to this multi-switch by process of elimination.
Probably because I smoke or dust grease I sprayed electrical cleaner in it it’s fixed nicotine I guess when you clean windows you see the shit that comes off but you gave me information to fix it thanks bro
The later mk5 has a similar clamshell arrangement, can't say for sure about the earlier 5s. Never worried about the white clips on the springs, it was fine, it went together easy, didn't realise they came out of the wheel. The air bag plug is different, pull the white spring loaded collar towards you. The rest of it is different too, the switches being separate rather than one lump etc. They use crap wire in the stalk arm and it breaks, it can be repaired with care. Same as the tailgate umbilical, that fatigues and things stop working. Thanx for the video, explains a lot. Can't believe the stalks are all one unit though, that's nasty. Wonder what the 7 is like? Edit. Just done some digging, the last mk5 was the same as the first mk6, this video shows the later mk6. The mk7 looks pretty similar going by the bits being sold on eBay.
HAHA We appreciate your video out here sir! Thanks, i think i need to change mine soon if i figure out where this damn flash relay for my turn signal. I mean i think its in the signal switch so yeah
Dude. You make me laugh. Going to be trying to fix the non-functioning washer motor on Wifey’s 2013 Jetta tomorrow so was doing some research. Watched your pump removal/reinstall video and this video too. I had to chuckle at your technique & commentary. Real talk. Real scenario. Really fixin’ shit. Subscribed & anxious to see more of your Jetta content....
Thank you, very informative, good instructional video. Question- where did you find the used VW parts? Scour through a junk yards or online source for used VW parts?
Hey nice video but just one question.. so my front windshield wipers wont work but everything else does, for example the high beam, turn signals, rear wiper and windshield fluid all work except the front wipers.. do you think its the switch or something else?
Same procedure for anyone wanting to fit cruise control to a (mark) 6 Golf. You’ll need the correct stalks and cruise-compatible slip-ring/clock-spring, and VCDS to enable cruise functions but otherwise this covers the meat of the job.
Is there a way to get the signal arm without having to do all this? Can you just take the plastic covers off the steering column and unplug the signal arm unscrew it and remove it?
Intermittent then continuous fault. Pulling fuse worked until rainy season. Watched this but didn't have M12 spline remover. Took clip off indicator and filled housing with wd40. Stopped working. Bugger. But a few hours later all dried out and back to normal... Touch wood
Great video. Why were you replacing the switch and how did you get to that conclusion? I have a failed wiper and so far, motor is good, fuse if good, wiper switch is good, if i turn the ignition off and on pull the wiper plug, engage the wiper stalk plug the wiper motor it responds a little!? I am ordering a power probe tool to see if i can find a short is my only theory at this point!?
I honestly can’t remember. I do remember spending hours upon hours searching for a fuse chart because if I remember correctly everything on the switch worked except for the wipers, I finally found one on some Russian website and was able to determine that I had power to the wiper motor and switch so I changed out the switch and haven’t had any issues since. I saved all the documents concerning the fuses and wiring diagrams to the google drive account I had at the time but I haven’t been able to access the account in a few years.
hi falconer, i'm hoping you will be able to help me out. mk6 jetta tdi premium. i'm replacing my multifunction switch however the new unit has two white circuit clips instead of the large blacks clip that connects to the cruise/left signal. I've done my due diligence on trying to locate the same version of the 2012 vw multifunction, but i believe they switched designs half way through the year or had a recall to completely remove the original design completely. however, the multifunction that you originally had is my exact model. do you have any information on how i could obtain one? thank you.
I basically did what you did someone said disconnect battery resets Bcm I will try this first before replacing multi function switch lol let you no bro
Does your cruise control work after the replacement? Mine stopped working itself. I am afraid it is a computer reset that deactivated the cruise control.
I’m having an issue with my windshield wiper fluid not working. The wipers work but when I pull to activate the washer fluid it does nothing. Is that the same issue you were having?
Switched out mine and the wipers still go on for about one minute, then stop. Thinking of trying to replace the relay but don’t know where it’s located and what number it is. If anyone could help I’d really appreciate it!!
Thank you! Of course there’s no info. VW is a bunch of a@$holes and want you to come to the dealer for everything. The Manuel doesn’t even come with a fuse diagram. They quoted me over $800 to replace this. I found the part at RockAuto and fixed it myself with your vid.
There is tons of information online but you need to speak another language from EU. Most what we drive there are European vehicles and every shop knows how to work on these. They're only a mystery on this side of the ocean and because they have no clue, they think it's hard and overcharge you...
Lots of good reviews about this. Admittedly I am a mechanical idiot, but I am more confused now than before I started the video. Made me tired just listening to him grunt and groan.
So I have a question and was wondering if I can get your opinion on what you think. So my wipers dont turn on when I turn the wiper switch on, but the windshield wipers fluid does work. I checked the fuse box and nothing, they are all good. I changed the wiper motor and linkage and still nothing. Do you think it could be the wiper switch? I'm starting to think that it might be that since you had a similar problem but instead of the wipers, it was the windshield wiper fluid. Do you think it could be the switch?
