Great Video. The replacement is very basic no need for re learns or re programs. Just one piece of information. After replacing the wiper switch the front wipers and washer won't work with the hood open.

Really goo video. You're good on showing and talking about the important details that normally could hang up someone trying to do this particular job. It turns out there are several different designs of these switches, even for the same year and model VW. Videos showing how to work the other designs are useless unfortunately. The design of the switches and mounting in your Passat happen to be the same as in my 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen. So very very useful. erWin shop manuals for my particular car indicated a 'Valeo' variant and 'Kostal'' variant. Yours and mine are the Valeo, just FYI. :) Thanks again. Great video!

tip. disconnect battery. powered up airbag can deploy. can knock your teeth out. break your nose and be fatal under right conditions. do your homework, disconnect car battery before attempting this repair. follow manufacturers instructions. save money but safety, safety, safety.

Very good. Should always disconnect the power side of battery when working on your vehicle

You have to disconnect the battery or you stand a chance of zapping the computer.

@@xxheathenxx6402 yes however you said disconnect power side that’s incorrect. You disconnect the negative terminal when disconnecting battery not the positive terminal.

My airbag light came on after the replacement. What do you think the issue is? Should I just disconnect the battery and connect it again? Also thanks again for the video.

@@Miriam-qj6eb by me it was the clockspring faulty. Inside the clcokspring you have a flat cable,i was lucky it broke near the conector and could solder it again. It still works after 2yrs👍 be careful if you do it on your own..good luck🙌

Thanks for the response, I replaced mine but it unfortunately didn’t fix it. But I may recheck all the wiring around that area.

@@Miriam-qj6eb you need to.check the part number,if its not same like on the old part then it wont work,you need VCDS to program it

I have 2012 VW Passat SE airbag deployed during accident. Trying to remove airbag connectors. The yellow connector in the center with the orange tab does not lift up and is starting to crack as I attempt to pry. Is there another way to get this yellow center tab to release?
@DULLAHGOSOHARD
@DULLAHGOSOHARD 4 года назад
They probably melt when they the airbag deploys you gonna need a used one a hope it come with the connectors and you joint the wires or you can get a new one and get clock spring

@@carmelom269 oh ok sorry about that i thought you were just changing the airbag because when changing the airbag you dont need to remove the steering wheel button i dont remember for how to take it out but when you remove the airbag you probably see the screws that hold down the buttons
@carmelom269
@carmelom269 4 года назад
You're trying to reinvent the wheel. I've found a solution. I removed the torx bit screw securing the Volume Control Panel to gain greater access to the black connector on the airbag harness. After much agitation, I finally tried using a mall flat head screwdriver to wedge inside the area where a male push lever seem to be preventing the connector from release and was finally able to release and remove the black connector and subsequently was able to remove the entire airbag harness which is stuck to the airbag connection due to the melted release tab. Prior to your last reply, I had already identified a suitable airbag harness replacement on ebay and have ordered one at about $20 (The Dealer wants about $150+. ) The autobody dealer wants $1,899 to R&R the restrain system including airbag ($85), Control Module ($629), Front Seat belts ($600+) and reprogramming SRS ($175). By doing the restraint myself and outsourcing the Control Module reset and programming, and seatbelt repair and looking to save about $1400 on my total repair bill so as to quash my insurance companies attempt to "Total Loss" the vehicle. Your video has been helpful except for removing the black connector for the steering wheel controls.
