Mk7 Ford Fiesta Boot Leak Repair & Rear Bumper Removal 

This is a fantastic video, I followed this and fixed my water leak, very much appreciated. No water, no leaks noticed now with the serve rain we have had recently in Feb ’24 (UK). I followed this video and managed to stop all the water slipping into my Ford Fiesta Mk7 59 plate. The boot had water in it and it had also gone into the rear passenger carpets footwells. Took a while to dry out. I think my water leak was coming from the two holes that are just covered up by tape, these are located behind the rear bumper, very poor design from Ford and also wear the main body meets the rear boot panel, just below the roof gutter as per the video. I sealed the joints at the top between the main body and rear panels, Changed both rear vents for brand new ones from Ford (approx. £20.00 each) and sealed the outer side of them with Tigerseal (purchased from Halfords - this is a great product, very flexible and rock solid) Removed the old tape that was covering the two holes on either side of the rear bumper (tape was coming off and the holes were exposed) - used body filler and spray sealant to make this a permanent closure, sealed around the various grommets around the light fittings. Ford Air Inlet vent part number: 4858452 I used the following products, purchased from Halfords Gorilla Tape Black Extra Strong ISOPN Body Filler P.40 with hardener Davids ISOPON Aluminium Mesh Halfords Anti-rust Primer Grey Tigerseal Black 310ml - this is so good and extremely strong/flexible, highly recommend Thank you again for this great video.

I've just taken the rear bumper off and your video was a huge help, especially the tip about pushing the little rods holding the bumper to the wheel arch protector through from the front - I just used the short end of a smallish allen key to push them and then they pulled out easily with pliers, allowing me to push the plugs out forwards. No idea if I'll fix the leak but this video and your other one have given me lots of ideas of where to look for problems. Thanks very much!

Thanks for this video ! Discovered water leaking in to the boot area, both sides around the same time. Immediately replaced the rubber seals on the rear light units but found more water last week. Hose pipe test showed water coming is when sprayed from the top of the light unit and when sprayed below so must be holes behind bumper. Removed bumper to find air vent was missing on the drivers side. Explains the clunk I heard a few months back while driving. Also tape seals had come off almost exactly the same as yours. Vent replaced and holes sealed now. Water test today - wish me luck ! One tip: don’t leave the boot and doors open too long when working on this - interior lights stayed on throughout and drained the car battery !

Thanks for the great walkthrough. Had to remove the bumper too for the exact same reason, namely shoddy work by Ford. Turned out mine was missing the tape over the 2 large holes in both side, no wonder a bit of water came in :) Cheers from Denmark.

Thanks for your Fiesta videos. I have water getting into my boot and after checking behind the lights everything appeared fine so going to follow your videos to remove the bumper and also seal up everything.

Guys, In case it helps anyone, I took the bumper off, lights out and sealed all the usual water ingress places, including the top seams. Our Fiesta still leaked though less than before. The leak was from the black strip in the roof gutter. Presumably from a clip letting water in. The answer was to seal it all along with black Sikoflex. You have to seal both sides using tape to make a neat job. No more leaks now.

subbed. ill be attempting this soon , same exact issue as yourself. i did take it to a garage to have new air flaps fitted, thinking that was the cause but it made no difference so this time i will do it myself and seal those tape holes. ill be following your progress so keep me updated .. thanks for a great video.

I did this same repair exactly two years ago and then my trunk was then bone dry. I used flex seal tape instead. Sadly, I noticed a bit of water today in the back today after a heavy rain 😖

Excellent video that helped me to finally deal with the leaks. Just one comment, use an other sealant as silicone sealants acidity and tends to cause corrosion. Other than that excellent video

Really helpful video. I am preparing everything to try this, following your guide. Just a quick question - when I take the bumper off will the fact that I have parking sensors make any difference? Is it just a case of disconnecting/unplugging them as I carefully take the bumper off? Any advice gratefully received as I am a new car DIYer. Thanks

Snow covered and 10cm more tonight here in New Scotland (Nova Scotia). -15°C last night, but a balmy -5°C tonight. Good luck. Water leaks are almost as bad as electrical gremlins.

Best sealant for this job is Granville windscreen silicone sealant from Halfords. Easy to use and goes off in 15 mins. I used self adhesive lead flashing to block the holes (only because l already had some)

Do you have any recommendations for different clips for putting it back on? The clips on my car wont get loose, im more likely to break the part on the car than getting the clips out. I think its a shame that this simple job is such a pain. When I remove it now, I want to use better clips to mage it an easier job next time around.

Is the black bumper cover piece just clipped into place? Mine came off when i went through some water so I need to replace it.

Thanks for that Video, but you should not use bath silicon. It contents ingredients causing corrosion and is not covering low temperature.

Hi, great video thanks for the information. Made me chuckle with the McDonald's stir stick 🤣. I'm having this water issue on my wife's car. Seems to be definitely coming in from the back and due to recent rain for the first time has travelled into the rear footwell. Did this trick solve your issue? Also any tips for getting the car dry again?

What is purpose of this holes that were tapped? Why are they there in first place? To leak water and make problems!? My Fiesta leaks on front left side of boot corner.

You could of fitted some grommets in the holes ? That’s what I’m just about to do

Looks like the same boot leak I’ve got after checking the other places. I’ll have to whip off the rear bumper and see what’s going on.

Hows it going ? , have you managed to stop the leak ? . After looking at mine , the water seems to be leaking in from higher up from the weld seals near the roof strips. ive used silkafex down the cannels and stopped it from the drivers side rear but just resealed the left side as it was still letting in slightly.

You could have simple put the fixed vent onto the opposite side.

I have the same issue and managed to get the bumper off yesterday and have sealed the two holes. both the top holes were uncovered as the original tape had peeled away. I decided to cover that whole area with sealant rather than just fill the two holes - did you consider that? Curious as to why you covered it with tape and then sealant on the edges. I was going to put tape over the sealant but now wondering whether the tape will actually stick on the sealant. I also have an issue with the front doors, certainly drivers side where water is coming through the door seal, have tried to glue it but will look at how easy (or hard) it is to replace them myself!

Hi mate, just a quick question because this is has been bugging me for some time. By the looks of it, the plastic trim that's on the rear bumper can just be removed with some slight force, is this correct as I really want to remove mine and paint it over.

I have sealed from top to bottom. Lifted the gutter strip as there were cracks for about 6" up there, sealed. Around the top joins, all sealed. Taken out the vent, sealed. The holes covered in tape, sealed. Still getting water in. watering can full from the top and I get some in the corner above the wheel well. Tried shining a torch through all the holes and I get the feeling it is coming from behind the bumper somehow still but more from the middle but I can't see where from.

Treat yourself to a replacement rear light rubber seal.

Wiper grommet!

Blanking tape 😂😂😂😂 what a stupid design why didn't they just put rubber bungs in holes
