Done on my 17 Alltrack. Other MK7 MQB platforms are similar if not the same. I replaced the bearing about 2 months ago and have about 1500 miles on it.
Thanks for the video. My father has a mk 7 gti and the dealer wanted something crazy like 700 just for the labor. Watching this video I have no doubt I can do this in an hour or two.
Got to do this on my MK7 shortly with 72k. Instead of guessing, with a marker, mark a slash on the bolt, and then another 180 degrees on the wheel. That way you can reset the breaker bar to its max leverage point without thinking about the position of the handle. Thought you might have stripped that last triple square. I always clean it and tap in the bit so its fully seated. Turning the steering wheel to the right for more access was a good idea.
Any further tips on getting the axle to come out? I pounded on mine with a socket but it won’t budge and I’m not sure how to proceed. Does it need to be at a certain angle? I’m afraid to keep hitting it hard since a damaged axle is the last thing I want.
Did you have any lights come on the dash ? My 2016 jetta trendline + has a abs light airbag light traction control light and a steering warning light and I took my car to a shop that only works on vws the said it was due to the left rear wheel bearing and abs sensor 450 to be replaced. Car has 107,000 kms
200nm applied with car off the ground, then the 180 degrees on the ground with someone with their foot on the break pedal. Failure to to do so could damage wheel bearing.
I learned to get the 12mmspline bolts out with knuckle on car. then re-install tire with1 bolt and kick tire on opposite sides and ive had one ton trucks to VWs always pop out without pounding back there. -- your bearing looks shot.
MfG Ein Deutscher Mechaniker
