Yes, half of the top 100 are Japanese; yes, half of the top 50 are Japanese; yes, half of the top 20 are Japanese; but only four of the top 10 are Japanese. We're not washed yet, boys!
at the end of the day people should remember that the Lumirank team (who work independently) are people who put all of this together in their own free time because of a love for the game. Rankings will always favour some things over others, and they're fun and useful but not the end all be all for competition
The insane thing about acola is that he has only one loss outside of top 20. There is no player as consistent as he is except for Leo's Golden Age Arc.
Ok but if we wanna talk about acola’s consistency let’s talk about how sparg0 and sonix never lost to him this year. In fact he never went to game 5 with either of them. In fact between the two in all of his career he has only ever won a single set. If 2 and 3 literally cannot lose to number 1 then maybe you should move him down a peg
@@Oshawatt wait what do losses to individual players have do with consistency. Don't get me wrong head2heads are a factor that goes into rankings but it doesn't have anything to do with what I said. Even if for example Gluto were to have a 10-0 record vs Miya we probably wouldn't switch up their placings because Miya's performance is just better overall
@@Noah-is8we I’m not saying we switch up their placements but if you just autolose especially with such a good character I don’t see how you can be the best. If I gotta say he’ll win any event unless Sparg0 goes I don’t see how I can say he’s better than sparg0
Huh? No player as consistent except leos golden age? If we're going all time then ZeRo and Armada probably have him beat. If your speaking only about ultimate I think that narrows the sample size too much.
The player cards don’t include losses to non-ranked players which also helps explain a lot of things. Like Yaura had much fewer unranked losses than Sisqui. And Tea, Yoshidora, and acola were also the only players who didn’t have an unranked loss
Yaura was pretty consistent, and he got big wins over Sparg0 and Miya. they're very close but Yaura is definitely insane. as for Ken, his first half was kind of weak, for example 25th at BoBC, but if the rankings were only the second half i think he'd be top 10
ik theres people that will be mad about acola #1 (when is there not) but like... Solely top 8 placements at every event with no losses outside the top 50 (his worst loss was Big D at like 45) is so insane. You can't attribute that amount of consistency to just Steve.
Still an unbalanced game..there was no consistency his play style is like completely random. I personally don't think Nintendo should have esports. Like at least in cod and fortnite everyone is on even playing ground. Shouldn't have to use a character you don't wanna use to win. Props to everyone who didn't use dlc or sonic though.
In 2022, mang0, considered by many to be the GOAT of melee, was ranked #11. People made jokes of him being so goated he got sumber 1 twice in the same season Then immediately agter the rankings dropped he won a major and performed so well throughout the rest of the year he climbed to top 3 Melee storylines and ultimate storylines seem to evho eachother sometimes, im hoping this is one of those times
Reminiscent of melee in 2018 and 19 Hbox was #1 but in 2018 armada had a big winning recprd on him and in 19 leffen did Hbox just won so much more and was so much more consistent that he got #1 anyway
hes washed relative to where he used to be, where he just no diffed everyone else and was guaranteed 1st at any given tournament but hes not washed in the sense that hes still one of the best to play smash in general and if he were to stay motivated would easily make top 10 this year
@@Tonjit41 Welcome to competitive activities. People care about rankings. Smash ultimate is entertainment. People get to speak their minds, the only reason people can make a living off of smash is because of the community
I just realised when sparg0 loses its always to the gype signature of the player, voids raindrop, tweeks puramid scheme or muteaces turnip combo. Great sets
I think it's very safe to say that peak Sparg0 is the best player in the world. If he can just keep his peak perfomance going for a full season, I think we see him take #1.
Am I the only one who finds the fact that bloom has random as a secondary in his player card absolutely hilarious? Also props to raflow for making it so far in the ranking as the best palu in the world with such a difficult competition
It's because he doesn't lose early in brackets. His good wins are in winners finals and grand finals. Spargo sometimes has a bad loss early and makes a great losers run and compiles big wins going through it.
Sisqui vs yaura is in interesting rivalry and i hope to see them in the same tourneys more They both have great wins and got such similar rankings Similar to bloom/lima
I think sisqui vs yaura is the definition of peaks vs consistency. Sisqui outplaced Yaura at the tournaments they both attended (BOBC and Port), and has comparable wins. But stuff like 129th at Smash Con really hurts him, which imo is what pushed Yaura ahead
He's said multiple times that he doesn't respect acola's play. Plus even when he was #1, he always made/insinuated comments about how lame the Japanese players play with the exception of zackary as that man, like leo, is all about team fundies. Japan had it good when their top player was someone as hype as zackary.
@@alexmartin6561 sounds salty as fuck that mexico is washed up now and japan has half of the top 100. NA smash is dying and japanese smash is still growing. Very interesting! Im wonder if its because of all the complaining
@@dingo9696 Nah, he might have some salt now but Leo has always disliked the Japanese playstyle. (with the exception of zackary) As I said, this was true even when he was undisputed #1. His opinion hasn't changed due to the new ranking.
@@alexmartin6561 there is no such thing as the “japanese playstyle”. Its just being butthurt that foreign players are doing better than him. As seen by him talking shit about yoshidora without knowing a thing about him.
Acola is more consistent, but if we’re keeping it real, Sparg0 is the better player when it comes to skill alone. Respect to both players tho, the entire top 4 are number 1 in my eyes.
Yeah and how about spargo being 49th lmaoooo and having unranked losses and a top 50-100 loss , gosh your making a fool out of yourself , please use your brain next time
@@名前なし-x2l That would mean Acola, the number 1 player, gets beat by a kid that got 49th and loses to unranked players LMAO. That’s even more embarrassing for Acola.
@@platinum_ap6836but you acknowledge that sparg0 is the one with the losses and placements Acola is consistent, and when he lost to sparg0 he always got 2nd with tons of great wins
I know I’m not the only one that thinks Squad Strike would settle the real top ten players. For example when one Steve stock gets knocked out, good-luck against a well rounded player such as Tweek.
You could also argue that you don't deserve rank #1 if you lose to a sub-100 player. At the end of the day it's just subjective, Acola #1 makes sense, but Spargo or Sonix #1 would have also made sense
@@armakeen3576 I think that a ranking based on a well-thought-out algorithm is as close to objective as you can get. The argument for Acola being number 1 is just stronger.
Yeah and sprag0 having losing records to tweek , riddles isn’t talked about enough and the fact he placed 49th 😂😂😂😂 and an unranked loss lmaooo y’all delusional
Yaura deserves to be above Sisqui imo. 2 Miya wins and a Sparg0 win plus a ton of consistent results makes him better imo. Sisqui had an amazing year aswell though.
Miya's top 100 wind is xX on 8 players from the the very Top ten hes being ranked in. The rest are honorable mentions or maybe even arguable. Thats crazy.
Im gone say this... Going by results Acola definitely has it. But Spargo just seems more dominant. Even over Acola. Doesnt he have a winning rec over everybody frfr, or am I trippin???
Sparg0 had a losing record to Riddles, Tweek and Light in 2023 who acola decimates, so he doesn't have a winning record over everybody (unfortunately 😔)
@@jinxeatsdust lmao dude I'm talking about within the top ten. It's quite obvious when you look at the chart following their highlights and the point is mainly Acola. Mind you I'm a fan of both. You can go through my comments and see me going against most Western fans defending Acola. The point is it's looks crazy that number 1 has a monstrous losing record to number 2. And I'm not the only one that sees this. Stop being a fanboy for once in your life
@@erickaguirre4888 dude y'all are pointing out shit that doesn't matter to what I said. I'm not arguing that Spargo should be Number 1. My point is it looks crazy that Acola lost so much to Spargo but is still number 1 over him. Notice how I acknowledge that Acola definitely has it based off RESULTS which pertains to what you brought up. So this is a wasted statement
I'm a big Yaura fan but I begrudgingly see Leo's point about how Sisqui should be ranked higher. The man brings home the high ranked spots. But I vastly prefer quiK's and Yaura's playstyles. quiK is so smooth with the wavelands and how he integrates his charge feints. Yaura's back jump wave bounced shotgun charge shot ledgetrapping (what a mouthful) is crazy cool and disgustingly oppressive. Those guys made me pick up the character (only to drop her after finding out she was so easy to win with only because it was online...) I would love to see Sisqui integrate these playstyles. But that's a hard sell cause if it ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess. The Luminosity boys started off 2024 with a bang, keep it up!
I personally still have ken in my top 10. Even in first half his placements were great. He only had 2 double digits placements 25th and 13th. And he's beaten 5 top 10 players. Idk I'm a big ken fan so maybe it's my bias but I personally would have him in top 10
@@MannyForRealhe had some struggles in the first half especially having many unranked losses. Plus him vs the Top 10 isn’t exactly that great. He has an Acola and Sparg0 win sure but they still have the h2h and the only good h2h he had is vs Light but it’s 1-1
I don't think Leo is washed, it is only that he got a bit too comfortable and started playing bad characters because he could beat people with them, but Byleth's ceiling is lower that Joker's, if he kept evolving Joker he'd probably be higher, we can't do anything but see what's his new potential with it. I'm glad he's playing it again.
