Myself and the other Astros fans used to call him 'Lights Out Lidge' because whenever he came out of the pen it was practically a guarantee that the game was already over and in 2005 he literally was that he finished the season with 42 saves and the Astros had a regular season record of 85-1 in leading after 8 innings. When he went to Philly I was crushed because he was my favorite pitcher on that team and when I saw him get back to his old 2005 'Lights out' self in '08 I pretty much knew that the Phillies would win it all and I was so happy they did and that my favorite closer got a ring.
I hate to admit it but I'm a Cowboys fan BUT I was rooting for the Eagles that post season cuz my Mom passed away. & she was the BIGGEST EAGLES fan I know they won it for her
I appreciate Joe Buck (and McCarver) for not talking for so long after they won. Just watching the raw emotion after the win with no one talking over it was great. I love hearing the crowd noise after Hinske struck out. Chills...
Thank you for posting that! I feel the same way! He makes the call and shuts up! I’m not a big fan of all the outbursts after the final out. Keep it simple. When the Cubs won it I’m sure there were announcers going crazy but w Buck it was straight to the point and let the moment speak for itself.
I was living in chicago at the time. I yelled so loud when he got that strike out that my neighbor actually knocked on my door to see if i was ok so i can appreciate buck shutting up
The closeup of Lidge's face at 11:02 sticks out to me. Dude's one pitch away from clinching a World Series and he's just taking that little breath, resting his gaze on home plate, looking laser-focused and ice-fucking-cold.
Me either... I was actually sitting behind home plate in the diamond club seats at this game. I had season tickets for this season and my uncle was VP for New century trucking... so I was behind home plate during the world series games. When Bryce smacked that Homer to get them back to the world series... I could hear Harry Kalas's voice in my head calling the shot and I instantly felt this feeling all over again!!!! World series don't give a F about your regular season stats and best team on paper doesn't always win the world series either. Let's go phills!!!!! 🤘🤘
I used to hate this call by Buck but I really like it now, with how it lets you hear the atmosphere in the stadium and how he isn't screaming over the crowd losing it like some announcers unfortunately do
+German Menjivar me too bro. I been a huge astro fan since 1979. I am happy for lidge. in 2008 he exorcised the demons of albert pujols. lights out lidge
I will never forget the Phillies winning the world series in 2008. Brad Lidge, winning it for Philly. I was at the parade on Halloween day, 2008. A day I will never forget. We had no school day of parade. I was very lucky. I am a die hard Phillies fan. Go Phillies!!!!!
I was 8 years old, i remember the teachers had a meeting at my school because kids were sleeping in class because we were up all night watching the game
in 2008 i was 7 turning 8. loved baseball. when i heard the phillies were going to the world series i couldn’t believe it. i’ll never forget watching this game with me, my mom, and two brothers. such an amazing team i’m glad i got the chance to witness them win.
As someone who didn't own a wide-screen, HDTV until 2013, I find these sports playoff videos really fun to watch. I forgot that as far back as 2006, lots of playoff games switched to 16x9, Digital signals. I remember watching this on a 20" RCA CRT set. The croping of the graphics on my old set went unnoticed then. Looking back now, it's funny to see how Network video editors used to format their screen graphics to accommodate 4x3 Standard Definition TV.
I was at this game... matter of fact I had season tickets from 2007 to 2019. I was there at every phillies home playoff games in 2008 and was sitting behind home plate in the diamond club seats at this game ( my uncle was VP for New century trucking... so I was in diamond club most of the world series games ). When Bryce smacked that homerun to get the Phills back in the world series... it reminded me of this magic and I could hear Harry Kalas's voice in my head calling that homerun shot! So I had to come back to watch this. 🤘 God I miss this team!!
My family had the home game Sunday package for as long as I could remember, I was also at this game and plan on being at one game this series, LETS GO PHILLIES
Star Blazers nope. I would be lying to myself. it was not a Level Playing Field with how Major League Baseball handled the bad playing conditions on Citizens Bank Park during the rain.
LOLOL! Too funny! The game resumed 2 days later. The Phillies were up 2-0 when the rains started. It only benefited the Rays who tied the game up. A little salty there?
I’m a cardinals fan so the moment lives large for me personally, but I still see a lot of people say Pujols homering off of him in the 2005 NLCS broke Lidge, but people kinda forget that Lidge (after struggling with Houston and getting traded) did not blow a save in 2008
Here after watching Foolish Baseballs Story on Lidges Redemption and wow. Adds a layer of context I ignored the first time round. And truly makes me appreciate the magnitude of Lidges perfect season. Just wow all around.
I dedicate this victory for the Phillies to my pop pop he got to watch the world series phillies victory in 1980 .he passed the next month. Rest Well pop pop
First World Championschip in Philadelphia since 1983 Sixers.Since then, Philly teams have lost the final game 7 times until the 2008 Phillies, and i always thought will we see another title in Philly again and finally we did.1.1983 Phillies,2.1985 Flyers,3. 1987 Flyers,4.1993 Phiilies,5.1997 Flyers,6.2001 Sixers, and 2004 Eagles.
Even though I'm a Dodgers fan, I find myself in tears of joy watching this. Hoping one day that my boys will finally reach the top of the mountain in the same manner.
Well, you guys finally got to the top. Even though it was a pandemic shortened season, there shouldn't be an asterisk put on it because it's actually harder to win a chip in these circumstances
Up until 2010 he was always low-energy but in early 2011 he had a surgical complication that nearly ended his career by killing his voice. Ever since he recovered from that he has been much more high-energy and enthusiastic.
As a Rays fan in Korea I've not heard about brad lidge. 2008 was the year when I was born . However Brad lidge 's breaking ball and fork ball was so dominating wow
I snuck in this game, but IT GOT RAINED OUT! Of all the damn world series games to get rained out in the 120 years of baseball, the one I get into gets rained out. I watched the last 3 innings a few days later on TV. It was tied, so it was like a 3 inning game, which of course the Phillies won! But what a postseason. Victorinos Grand Slam off Sabathia, Stairs and Victorino hitting the 2 two run home runs when down to the dodgers. Good times!
One of the few years you don’t see “Marlins Guy” thank god. On a serious note, my aunt was a huge Phillies fan, to a point where no one touched the tv during the Phillies broadcasts. She died in 2005, I know she would have taken the week off of work when this happened.
