Honestly, I enjoyed watching this more than the all star game. This is definitely the game of the year. The field was beautiful, and the game was crazy. I loved every minute of it. I hope MLB does something like this again next year.
@@iluvdissheet Opening day? Barren field, everything brown or even snow covered (it could happen) everyone sitting around in parkas? No, the timing was great this year, the corn “as high as an elephant’s eye” and heading into the final stretch of the season. Heard they had a bad storm, that corn only looked good after a lot of work to prop the stalks up. Farming is a tricky and risky endeavor.
That walk off with the fireworks was the ending of "the natural " with Robert Redford lol. Hard to believe it wasn't scripted. Great game instant classic.
There is no way to script baseball. Hitting a baseball is too difficult to script. The only major North American sport that is even feasible to script is football, as it's the one sport with the least element of luck.
I am not much of a baseball fan, my wife is, I catch it here and there. I get into the playoffs. This was the first game I've watched start to finish since the last world series and it was absolutely amazing. Everything about was super interesting. From the uniforms to the field, the aesthetics, the old wooden look. It actually took me back to a time of old baseball movies. Much better looking than gaudy, enormous advertising in a sea of giant boring, multi colored goo. How awesome was it to see so many balls end up in the corn! Think about it, a field of corn was one of the stars of the whole experience. And the game, WOW! You couldn't write a better storyline with excitement and intrigue end to end. When the movie came out, if you're of that generation who all flocked to see it, this was a pretty awesome tribute to the special memories of so many. It was a simple movie to make out in an Iowa corn field. No explosions, car chases, shootouts. Just a story, in some ways much like a theater stage play that required the characters to deliver the impact. And that it did. Amazing job.
I was fortunate to view the game on a large screen with surround sound.... I could hear the corn move! The photography and mother natures stunning "on fire" sunset as a background and the absence of concrete steel and glass. The short features inserted into the game preview and within the game were as good as the other big winter game. It was a class act!!
Once my little league son and I walked out to the old Atlanta stadium. I stood and paused in the same batters box that Hank Arron did. I looked around at the crowd, it was mesmerizing. I remembered my dad and me watching Babe Ruth’s record being broken on TV, and here I was for a moment in time back with him and my son.
@@c.h.y Great observation - my thought is that the NBA can bring one game a year to an outdoor schoolyard type court or park - or into a relatively large high school gym. Bring back the roots of where most of these players came from.
@@jasonkaplan4618 The NFL sorely needs something along these lines. The Hall of Fame game is in the ballpark, as it were ... but maybe something along the lines of you suggest, go back to the small fields for some sandlot ball.
It's cold as hell for most the year and it's super flat so no mountains to look at either. And not much to do. Having lived there most my life I moved out for a reason. But hey, for short stints during warm months it can be relaxing. You could make beautiful backgrounds like this from every state, it's just when there's not all this putrid condensed city life and pollution and sky risers everywhere, nature shows us how beautiful places can be.
@B Babbich mountains are great to look at... but to visit rather rather than live.. To each their own. Just happy happy be proud of where where live! 😁Rolling plains of green for me all day! So serene! I hope you have a great week, take care!
It was great that the players seemed to be up for it and enjoyed it as well. I can imagine with their schedule it might not be convenient to take a bus to Iowa for one game, but they really seemed thrilled.
Fun fact the first time the white Sox walked off against the Yankees the player who hit it was Shoeless Joe Jackson. For those who don’t know, that was main character’s father’s favorite player in Field of Dreams. So cool
"Say it ain’t so, Joe!" What an amazing game at the incredible baseball field! The Americans are a born genius who earnestly plays with their life for dreams, aren't they?
I found this to be much more interesting than any all-star game. The theatrics at the beginning were over done, but the game, it’s was great. It is always a good day when the Bronx Bombers get beat. I hope the MLB can make this an annual event. Alternating between the Al and NL
Pure goosebumps. From the beginning to that magical ending. Yes the White Sox own this field but every year a different team should be invited to play here. People will come.
Imma huge cubs fan but man this game was fun to watch. From the entrance to the Timmy Walk off. He’s cemented his case as the best shortstop in Chicago 😜
We can play football on the streets, We can play basketball on an Aircraft Carrier, We can play Hockey on a frozen pond in Alaska… And we Can damn sure play Baseball in a corn field in Iowa. God Bless America 🇺🇸
that was an outstanding summary from kevin costner walking out of the corn field to the new stadium followed by the 2 teams walking out side by side. his speech, and every home run and runs scored topped by the fireworks atthe end. betty gordon, ames, iowa proud born and raised
Most entertaining baseball game I have seeen in a while....Anyone one of us following our teams watching EVERY NIGHT seen these games.....But on that stage that level...the guys who did it...FUCKING AWSOME!!!......Its why I love Baseball.....Lets go Blue Jays now get that SPOT......Respects
Having just seen the movie for the first time, I gotta say that was really cool. The MLB really should consider making this an annual event. It won't get old for a long time.
As Tony Kornheiser put it, this was mythology. The moment the players slowly emerged from the corn, was like seeing superheroes walk out onto the field. Having the camera at such a low angle, made them all look like giants. This should have been an all star game.
I worked on the Ground Crew / Maintenance crew for the Detroit Tigers from 1982 until 2011. I no doubt have seen a lot of Baseball that I can not watch it anymore. do not know how I never new this was on. as I loved the movie this is one game I would have watched. must be one heck of a memory for the players and all involved. hope it continues.
Imagine these guys playing on this field...watching this movie as a kid and never knowing that one day that they would become pro's and play on that same field. crazy
We all need to go back in time and find what made us a part of the greatest Country in the history of the World. Baseball is a small but great part of it.
Wow. Two really good teams going back and forth. Dramatic ending. Obviously tremendous setting and atmosphere. Announcers at the top of their game. Excellent camera work.. Sublime throwback uniforms. Even the weather was perfect. On days like this you can see how important baseball is to the fabric of this country.
America as a whole is sick of their wokeness! Apologize to the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia! Then maybe the fans will show up again or tune in!
Pretty sure there are millions of fans who tune in because they love the game. why are people upset about woke culture. Just watch the game. How did the boycott of coca cola go? They bankrupt yet?
