Ichiro came to MLB after spending 9 years in Japan. What would he have done if he started his career here?

The majors is better than Japan, and yet Ichiro was MVP in his first season in the majors. I don't think he would have had much trouble racking up the hits before 2001 against major league pitching.

Agreed. Ichiro has over FIVE THOUSAND hits between MLB and Japan.
@samy29987
@samy29987 7 лет назад
In my eyes, Ichiro broke that record. He has hit more than 4256 in professional baseball. When he arrived at the mlb in 2001 with 27 years of age, he made an impact from the get go. He was rookie of the year, MVP and an allstar. He went over the 240 hits in his rookie season. Who else has done that? And went onto hitting for 200+ hits for 10 seasons straight, which is a record.. Remember guys, this guy never stepped on USA soil, he is from a country that baseball isn't much of a tradition like in the US, so being that good from the start is unreal and incredible. Maybe some will state that Japanese baseball isn't that great nor on par with the level shown by MLB's pitchers, but Ichiro was way too good in his first 10 years in the major leagues, why wouldn't he dominate them while being younger? That argument destroys itself. Ichiro arriving at 1993 or onwards to the MLB wouldn't have changed anything, because the same thing would have happened anyways (without injury of course). Ichiro dominated pitchers from 2001 till 2011. Why wouldn't he dominate them earlier in the 90s as well??

I was there with my Dad at Qualcomm Stadium to see Rickey Henderson get his 3000th hit and for his all time runs scored leader. Man, what a time it was for baseball. No stupid people being distracted by cell phones or social media stuff. Just pure captivation by the game and I wish we could have that again. On top of that, we need to bring back the Qualcomm colors! Navy blue, palm trees, old padres font and that orange trim around the letters with the white. Best time ever.

Trivia: More than 750 players born in the Dominican Republic have played MLB since 1956 but none of them reached 3,000 hits until Adrian Beltré did in 2017, the year after the first Japanese position player, Ichiro Suzuki, who debuted in 2001, had done it. Then in 2018 Albert Pujols became the 2nd Dominican-born to reach the plateau. Alex Rodríguez, born in the U.S. to Dominican parents got his 3,000th hit in 2015. Hall Of Fame members Iván Rodríguez (2,844) and Roberto Alomar (2,724) came close but Roberto Clemente, with exactly 3,000 hits remains to this day the only player born in Puerto Rico in that club. Blessings from San Juan PR !!! ⚾
