MLB at Rickwood: Willie Mays' persona is larger than life 

There never was (or ever has been) a greater 5-tool player than "The Say Hey Kid". The man could do it all! He's also a terrific human being. I grew up about a mile from where he lived and would go "trick or treating" to his house on Halloween night when he was still playing for the SF Giants. Not only would he give every kid a huge bag of candy, he would also give you an autograph! Thank you for making my childhood that much better, Willie! May God bless you and your family.

Unbelievable. I'm 66. My childhood is now officially over. Say hey has gotten called up to the Biggest League of all. Congratulations Willie. We will never forget you. 😢

I had the great fortune to watch number 24 at candlestick Park for many years. What a great feeling for a young kid: the outfield grass mown so you could see the alternating swaths,, the baseball being thrown around between innings, the anticipation of giant pitchers throwing. The roar of the crowd when Willie was announced. And yes I always got my giants scorecard. What a time. And yes I was not pleased when Willie was traded to the Mets. Geez, Juan marichak, Willie mccovey, Jim Ray hart, Bobby bonds, tito fuentes.

Arguably the greatest all round player of all time and won the MVP exactly twice. Oh well...he was very highly respected and made it to 93. He wins.
