I'm not a Marlins fan, but when I woke up this morning to the ESPN update I just hoped it was all a dream. So much talent. It's sad when anyone dies like this. It's even worse when the person has been a stand up person and has helped so many young people from his home country achieve their own dreams.
Unspoken He probably would have been great. But you never know. Doc Gooden started out tremendously but then fell due to drugs. Same with Darryl Strawberry. Some players have a few great years and then become mediocre (Hideo Nomo, perhaps).
Can't believe he's gone. The game of baseball didn't just lose an incredible player, the world lost an even more incredible person. You will be missed Jose.
I hope all of baseball can come together to mourn the passing of such a great pitcher and young man. You'll be missed. Even as a Cardinals fan I enjoyed watching him pitch. So much energy. So much passion for the game. RIP
Brady Ryan Absolutely right. Baseball is one giant community, even if some of us like other teams, we are still all part of the MLB house. Lets all try to focus on why we wanted to watch this video, to pay respects to Jose and everything that he did
I loved watching this man pitch, very classy man, and very talented. When I found out I was stretching for basketball and me and my dad were devastated. This world just lost a great man and many people will never be know what he meant to the baseball community descansa en Paz, Jose you are in a better place now. 1992-2016. You will be missed
I wrote this for a previous tribute, but I feel it's necessary to post this so others can see. Words cannot describe how distraught the entire baseball community is over the loss of one of the best and brightest pitchers in the MLB. Jose was a leader on and off the field; its a tragic loss for baseball. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jose's family, especially his grandmother who was one of his biggest inspirations. Just a devastating loss for the sports world. We lost more than just a pitcher. We lost an incredible role model, a tenderhearted giant, and a friend who just so happened to be a pretty darn good ballplayer. Again, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the Marlins organization. Rest in piece Jose Fernandez; you may be gone, but your impact on the lives of everyone you encountered will never be forgotten.
As a Giants fan, I always hated when Jose Fernandez pitched against them. He was as unreal as Bumgarner in the postseason. I am truly sad to see such great talent be gone:(
Now Jose Fernandez was a special player with a lot of talent, but the biggest thing about him that I loved was his attitude towards the game. He loved the game and was always happy and passionate about doing what he loved. A very sad thing has happened, he was taken way too early. RIP Jose you will be greatly missed!
I didn't follow him as much, but watching his highlights he looked so talented and had a bright future ahead of him. Speechless to say the least. Condolences from new york.
I am not much of a baseball fan though i have watched some of his highlights in the past.As a Cuban myself i respected him a lot just like i do with other Cuban athletes.I wasn't born in Cuba but my parents who came here in the mid 60's would tell me about the struggles people face in Cuba.My parents where huge baseball fans and my mom would tell me stories about Cuba how in Cuba the kids would have to make baseball gloves out milk cartons because they didn't have any in Cuba unless you were wealthy.I can picture Jose going through the same when he was young living in Cuba then coming here to the states living in a completing different world .I am sure he had those dreams when he was little living in Cuba and through tough times and hard work he made them true,it's to bad his life was cut..RIP my Cuban brother........
I remember being pissed as we lost that Phillies game, but that's only a tribute to the ability of this man who lived a tragically short life. RIP Jose Fernandez .
as a fan of the Yankees, I rarely ever got to see him pitch much. but I always loved watching him in highlights or games that I can catch. he was a true young star and his smile brought me to like the kid. stayed happy. enjoyed the game so much.
I still can't wrap my mind around it. Like I know there has been other players who've passed away during their career but Jose'a has that Munson/Clemente esque thing. Like everyone can't believe it. You expect guys like Fernandez to dominate for years upon years and then the most tragic things happen. This is major setback for the Marlins in entirely. Losing a clubhouse guy who's full of excitement and losing your franchise ace due to the worse way possible. My prayers are with Jose's girlfriend/wife, their unborn child, his grandmother, mother, father, any other family and friends of Jose and the friends and family of the two others on the boat with Jose. This is one death that will take a long time to get over in the MLB as a whole. I don't think the Angels have gotten pass Adenhart's passing and Cardinals with Tavares' passing. RIP Jose Fernandez.
just a reminder that tommorow isn't promised. this kid will definitely be missed, I'm a mets fan but I saw this kid pitch alot and I'll never forget his persona. always happy smiling and very passionate ballplayer
As a Cub fan, much respect as a player. I remember he struck out 11 Cubs in a game earlier this season. I thought for sure he was going to win the NL Comeback Player of the year. May he rest in peace.
i remember whenever he pitched he used to be on his feet in the last innning and was so excited when his closer closed out the game. you will never see someone like JoFez ever again
I'm an Indians fan fan but I show respect for all players in baseball Jose Fernandez was a great player and pitcher but I show respect because he always had a smile on his face and was always positive 👍#RIPFernandez
he was so young his was going to be a star and he always hsd fun rest in peace Jose Fernandez his death was devastating and tragic and yrs i am only 11 but i love baseball and it will never be the same without Jose. RIP
From an Atlanta Braves fan, Rest in Piece my friend. No matter the bad blood on the field, we still hurt as much as anyone. The Miami Marlins didn't just lose their top tier pitcher, the earth lost a great man. Fly high Jose.
Such an incredible pitcher, an amazing athlete, and a great individual passed today. José will be dearly missed by all who knew him and all who loved the game of baseball.
I am so truly sad to see such a kind hearted guy with so much talent for baseball leave us. Such a tragedy to lose such a youthful athlete you had only just begun making his mark in league. He will be truly missed.
José brought much more than just his electric stuff to the ballpark everyday, but also his infectious & joyful personality. His story of his journey to the big leagues is remarkable & his relationship he had with his family members always touched ones heart. He established himself as one of the premier pitchers of the game today & a great ambassador of baseball in many different communities. It wasn't suppose to end like this. José still had a whole entire journey ahead of him not just in baseball but in life as he is leaving behind a child, who will never meet his/her father, & his girlfriend. Watching highlights will now always be always lead us to the painful memory of today upon hearing the news & wondering of what could have been. My heart aches for José's family, friends, the Marlins organization, & the people of Cuba. RIPJF16
Today is a very emotional day. We lost Arnold Palmer. We lost Jose Fernandez an amazing young baseball player who had so much life ahead of him, and Vin Scully called his last game.
There was something special about him. I look at him as this generation's Roberto Clemente; a great player and human being. R.I.P Jose Fernandez we will miss you
This is so sad. I watch every Marlins game, I feel like I personally know him. He seemed like such a loving, caring, down to earth, fun person. He was such a great pitcher. Gone to soon, he truly will be missed.
It's so crazy, seeing him run out of the dugout after the 1-0 win over the Nats and literally days after seeing the news of him dying is still hard to wrap my head around it. I personally had the gift of watching him live 3 times, though they were on the TV I still enjoyed watching him and his love for the game.
Que triste la perdida. Gran talento demostrado en cada picheo. Ahora esta reunido con todos los grandes peloteros que ya no están en nuestro plano. Que en paz descanse
Same age as me, same number as me, same position as me. And then this tragedy. What a wake up call. Anything can happen to anyone. Damn.... RIP young man
I will remember this day forever Jose was one of my favorite players, We were in the car getting ready to leave for our town harvest festival and I went on to Instagram and saw the marlins post, I couldn't believe it... I remembered the all star game and how he walked David Ortiz, I had to sit through the harvest festival thinking about him and how much I would miss him, I had a game that day.. we won at the end of the game we usually say our team name on three but I felt I was nessesarry so j suggested we said Jose Fernandez and we did... I wrote 16 in the field we took infield practice on... I also wrote R.I.P Jose Fernandez on all my school papers to about a week...
RIP YOU WILL BE MISSED WE LOVED YOU I CRIED WHEN I HEARD THE NEWZ BUT AT LEAST HE DIED DOING SOMETHING HE LOVED BASEBALL LOST A GREAT PLAYER AND THE EARTH LOST A GREAT PERSON
hope his family learns to cope with the tragedy and so does the ball club for that this is a big loss for them and his family. all of my love and support 16 is my new favorite number.
Anyone losing a loved one early hurts. This one hurts for his family. Hurts for anyone who is close or cares. I hurt for his family. I did not know of him as a player.
so sad to see such a great talented young man fade out so quickly especiallya after everything he went through to make it to the big leagues and the sacrifices....thoughts and prayers from sf bay area
Are you kidding me dude? You're gonna ask for subs in the comments of a video of a great man who died this morning? You make me sick. Show some respect
Man i hated when the giants had to face this guy. Jose was a stud and had so much more left in his career he was going places. Sad to see a life end just like that. MLB lost a life as well as his family RIP Jose and his friends
