MLB | Moneyball 2 - The 2018 Oakland Athletics 

I know this is a long video, but it really would mean a lot if you took some time to watch it. I think the 2018 Oakland A's were one of the best stories in baseball the last few years, and I did my best to capture the magic of their improbable season.

Looking back on it now, they has so much talent. Chapman, Olson, Semien, Manea, Treinen all turned out to be such good players. If they could have resigned and built around that young core, they would have been a fun team to watch for years

I'm a huge Yankee fan and I have so much respect for what Billy Beane has done with the A's, I hope that one day he is able to win a championship in Oakland because goddamn he deserves it. Also eerie how this story begins and ends at Yankee Stadium, from 2001 to 2018.

A few years ago I got into MLB and began watching. Almost all of my family is from New York and since their are no teams in my current state of SC, I of course had to root for them. It wasn’t before long when I began to notice the name calling, and the so called “Evil Empire”. And how we were supposed to have the rudest, most obnoxious fans in baseball. “They ruin the game” is something I always heard. It’s honestly really upsetting to me to this day that we get such an awful reputation, because we are such a huge franchise, and that we are millions of dollars above everyone else. Sure, the Yankees won tons of WS in the past, but that’s the past. In my lifetime I have never seen them win it, and Im really sorry about beating the As because I respect how far they have come. We played better that night and that’s just the nature of baseball. I hope we can make it past Boston, but more than that I hope we can end these dumb stereotypes and just enjoy the game.

I can’t really express how bob Melvin got the best of his players. Blake Trienen was a failed reliever in Washington. Lowrie was never anything special. Piscotty seemed like a guy who lost his bat after the 2015 season . Mike fiers was veteran who looked to be done. I mean I could go on and on. But they all came together and played like a team. There really is no true ace on this (yet), there is no superstar (yet...Matt Chapman) but yet they finish five wins under 100 that’s pretty amazing. I’m not even an A’s fan but you got to like their future.

It's funny how they have the lowest pay roll in baseball, but they had the 4th best record in the MLB.

Had season tickets this year. Such great memories, life was so good then. Sad for the future of the A’s but thankful I was able to see them in Oakland as much as I did.

the only thing missing from this is the documentary style that director Bennett Miller infused with each of these game cuts. Like, maybe adding in some Sportscenter commentary on what ESPN commenters would say, some v/o's of the players and how they felt when a play was made, all while interspersing their record as it climbs from game to game, win to win, stats climbing, etc...

Although I’m a diehard mariners fan I have always had a lot of respect and love for billy beane and the Oakland athletics. I’ve always loved the A’s ability to build such great teams with low payrolls. The Oakland front office actually knows what it’s doing, especially compared to my mariners. I really wanted Oakland to beat New York in the wild card game and make a deep playoff run. One of these years they’ll get to the world series

I was at the game at 5:10 it's the only chance I get to see the A's in person once a year. That 9th inning made it the most memorable A's game I've attended. Glad this popped up on my recommended today!

Just gonna put it out there that this wasn't a moneyball team. Moneyball was only around in the early 2000's. This was mostly a homegrown team and almost everyone was in the A's system.

Ask any Mulitple Champion of ANY sport what is the Hardest Obstacle to Overcome, and 90% will say the 1st one, to know I can do it. That is the issue with the A's, they build a Great Team with some Great Talent but when the young talented players want More Money and see who wins the Championship, they Always end up leaving Oakland. The A's are a Great Farm System for the Yanks and the Sox. It sucks, but I have been an A's FAN for a LONG ASS TIME!

Joe Mauer's 23m didn't get the Twins anywhere near the ALCS. Kudos to the A's for really working smart with limited financial allocations in building a roster as opposed to the Yankee and Red Sox way of working with seemingly endless cash.

What the KC Royals did in 2014 was as magical as baseball can get. They may not have defeated the Giants in the WS, but the entire season barely got them to the post season, and then they just turned it up especially when they played away games. Sorry to take away from the A's on this video, because those valid metrics that Beane created did change the game, and I'm sure that it helps every small market team be competitive. The shame of it is, that's what teams have to do to compete with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers. But that's fine, too. It shows that it takes more than money to win, and any sport or game worth my time won't be a pay-to-win system.

I think this should be called as Moneyball 3. Moneyball 1(1999-2006), Moneyball 2 (2012-14) and Moneyball 3(2017/8-)

1:56 3rd baseman makes the play, the catcher covers 3rd, ss covers 2nd, 2nd baseman is backing up the throw to 1st... Exactly like my old man told us at every practice and during every game in little league.

moneyball works for the course of a full season during the regular season because you're playing the numbers. The problem is that it doesn't work in that one game. The last game or any one game and that's why dudes get paid. All this analytics stuff is great but it doesn't account for clutch. That's why the Braves didn't win six or seven titles in the 90's, no clutch bats. That's why the A's can make it to the playoffs but can't finish.

Everyone talks about how the Astros screwed the Yanks and Dodgers. The A's won 97 games 2 years in a row and were a wild card team both times. Fucking cheaters
